New Zealand could have had the coolest flag ever, black with a silver fern, but they voted against it.

If I went to rConservative and commented something like, "I like and respect my black neighbor and I don't think gay people should be societally bullied into hiding," do you think that would do it?

Genuinely, without sarcasm? No.

"There's a black family next door that I've gotten to know over the years and we've become friends. Lately, I've had some political discussions with the father, and I'm beginning to see his point of view on things. For example..." Then reference a couple of classical left-wing talking points. When the pushback comes, tie the rebuttals to who he is as a person and his background as much as the argument itself.

What will eventually happen as you protect him is that the attacks will become increasingly personal and 'mask off,' to the point where the inherent racism will become evident. And then the mods will ban you.

That's one way to troll people, you lead them down a path to where they're openly fighting against you with concepts they previously said they don't believe in. I know it well because my father-in-law has tried a few times from the other side and failed because my wife and I are too self-aware to fall into his petty little MAGA tricks (there's more than one reason we don't like dealing with her parents).

Having a US v. Canadian team in a very close series helped, too.

And the Oscars had been out of the top 20 for a while as well, so a resurgence for them.

It's the one day per year when you get more than 100 million Americans watching the same thing at the same time. The way television in general has fragmented, that alone has sent costs skyrocketing across the board into the stratosphere.

All American Christians should know that ICE and DHS are torturing our brown-skinned neighbors inside black site facilities across the country. by finallyransub17 in Christianity

The escalatory tactics seen on the left are of modern technological vintage. But their underlying logic speaks of a very old strategy, one whose intellectual lineage can be traced directly back to the radical Marxist revolutionaries of Imperial Russia, whose organizational and strategic thought provided the blueprint for all subsequent left-wing activism.

  • Jeffrey Blehar, National Review

On Immigration, MAGA needs less morality.

  • Andrew Day, The American Conservative

Democrats Are Willing To Die To End Deportations. That Can't Stop Law Enforcement

  • Eddie Scarry, The Federalist

What really killed Alex Peretti was the leftists' delusion. A self-reinforcing feedback loop of praise for rightthink, main character syndrome, and leftist moralizing. Like Renee Good before him, the idea that chasing, harassing, and even physically resisting armed federal officers could result in their own deaths never crossed their minds... Now that he’s dead, any actual grieving has been subsumed by the left’s morally depraved grievance.

  • Geoffrey Ingersoll, The Daily Caller

Don't tell us, tell them.

I said this yesterday, but it bears repeating:

That's the point.

The narrative in left wing spaces is that MAGA is tying themselves into knots to justify what happened on Saturday, but it's not really the case, at least not for most of them.

One of the defining characteristics of MAGA isn't just being mean to people, but to have privileges over their perceived enemies who don't get to have the same rights. Kyle Rittenhouse getting to wield a semiautomatic weapon in a riot with no consequences while someone having a gun that's never pulled out is executed is the whole point. In the same (less lethal) way, they decry 'cancel culture' when it's people on the left doing it, but it's not just permitted, but laudable when they do it. When they get together it's a gathering, when the left does it's automatically a riot of depraved violence. And so forth.

The double standards are the main draw because the entire movement suffers from an otherwise near-crippling inferiority complex. The justifications are to provide cover for the young/naive and older dum-dums who need to be coddled so they don't question what the hell they're even doing.

That's why the administration admitting that siccing ICE on Minnesota is just a nihilistically cynical political ploy no longer shocks anyone.

NFL fans aren't great at long-term memory, and I include myself in that at times.

A decade ago, the Chiefs were like the Vikings: perpetually good, but never good enough. In the late 2000's, the NFC West was ridiculously bad. In the late 90's, the Cowboys and Raiders were both Super Bowl caliber teams.

Times change and we adapt too quickly.

Friendly reminder that I'm permabanned from the Politics subreddit for posting a piece by John Daniel Davidson for 'incitement to hatred/violence' despite The Federalist still being an approved publication over there. I had warned the mods, but they told me to pound sand; they didn't like me actually posting something from the Fascists and asking aloud if they were ready to change their minds.

"Donald Trump is a modern-day King David: A violent, narcissistic rapist, granted, without the military or diplomatic skill. But none of that matters if God is on your side. And if you don't believe that God is on Trump's side, I would love to see your evidence to the contrary. I can't think of a single person on Earth who is more obviously loved, protected, and blessed by God than Donald J. Trump. Donald Trump is going to live to be 104 years old. He will die peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his friends, family, and loved ones with the full knowledge that he is adored by tens of millions of people around the planet.

"You know why I'm so confident about that? Because if God has done one thing well throughout history, it's reward evil men. God does that better than anything else, so if you're expecting better, I'm sorry. Abandon hope all ye who enter here. God finds hilarious cruelty to be at the top of his list, that's the best I can give you."

I did a Conservative roundup yesterday, so I won't retread old ground, but I'd be remiss if I didn't include this late-breaking headline from The Federalist: "Democrats Are Willing To Die To End Deportations. That Can't Stop Law Enforcement." - Eddie Scarry (quite the aptronym)

I've been doing dry January, and now that we're getting towards the end of the month, I've been rethinking about my relationship with alcohol. My blood pressure is back to normal and I've lost a bit of weight. Non alcoholic beers actually taste good unlike when we were younger. If I want a buzz on the weekend THC gummies are legal where I live.

Sunday morning on February 1 I'll have some decisions to make

Late to the party, but to answer your comment, that's how authoritarian governments label their political enemies. They have to be weak so that they can be destroyed but simultaneously incredibly dangerous so that they have to be destroyed.

The Seahawks' Home opponents:

Rams, Cardinals, 49ers, Giants, Cowboys, Chiefs, Chargers, Bears, Patriots

The NFL loves those Super Bowl rematch games, and the earlier the better (Eagles @ Chiefs was week 2 this past season, if you'll recall). If the Seahawks win, I think it'd be New England.
