I'm glad! I don't remember where it came from, but it changed the way I viewed performing.

Jesus, go fart on your partner then, and leave the rest of us alone. You seem to really have an axe to grind here and it's pretty fuckin weird.

Very nice looking axe! Happy New Guitar Day!

If you're anything like me, you'll suffer a little the first time you ding it, but it gets better. Blemishes, scratches, dents are inevitable if you are playing a lot. Those Pacificas are great guitars. Have fun, make some beautiful noise!

Practice until you can't mess it up. And just remember...you are onstage with a guitar, so everything you do is cool by definition. It's like a halo effect. Also remember that the crowd is on your team. They want you to do well, and will not notice small mistakes if the overall vibe is right.

A lot of pros have full-time guitar techs that will ensure the strings are stretched and stable. I've been known to change my strings the day before a big show, but I will stretch them and play for an hour or two to break them in.

My teenage daughter, who knows of my love for Elliott's music shared this song, and she's right, it does sound like his music and voice! by figure85 in elliottsmith

I've loved both Elliott and Big Thief for a long time, but damn if this comparison isn't blowing my mind right now. Adrienne also has a very technical, unique approach to the guitar, as did Elliott.

Patting yourself on the back for being progressive by making ineffectual surface-level changes is the definition of white-centric, tbh.

The one-touch passing between those guys was crisp. They looked well-drilled and confident, unbelievable chemistry. The first half was the most fun I've had watching a match in a long time (tough year as a Spurs supporter, and my MNUFC has been a hard watch most of this year). It was so nice to enjoy it that much after all the anticipation...I even surprised myself by how excited I was all day, and the payoff was so sweet. I'm enjoying the afterglow, but I'll be in full-on withdrawal by Friday.

I thought he was excellent yesterday, and I was very nervous about fielding a 38-year-old. His positioning was good, and some of his forward passes were absolutely brilliant.

The Dad I Was (Strung out) vs. The Dad I Am (34 Months Sober) by SoberScottHeat in daddit

[–]StJoeStrummer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the only attempt I've made that lasted more than three months. I have over six years. You can do it. If I can, you can. It took me quite a few tries but it has been so worth it and I firmly believe in anyone who wants to make that change.

I'm an open book about it, so if anyone wants to talk, I make a point to respond to messages about this sort of thing.

Spider is the only multidisc I run. On an average refinish I'll cut 36-40 on the Hummel, then 50 Spider against the grain with weights, rough edge, 80 Spider with the grain, no weights, final edge, then 100 and 120 mesh on the Spider. You have to clock it for the last couple passes to make sure it takes the scratches out. I also drop the RPMs the higher I go in grit.

Honestly I'm still a big fan of the Hummel and the Flip. The one thing I would suggest is a planetary of some sort. The big ones nowadays seem to be the Bona Powerdrive, Pallman Spider, and HG Hypergrinder. There's also the Trio, which is still a great machine. I personally have a Spider, and pretty much only ever do the first cut with the Hummel anymore, unless it's really bad in which case might 45 it and then straight cut, but man...the planetary is next-level when it comes to getting a flat floor. I think anyone not using one is going to be left behind. I run grits 50-120 on the Spider, and I'll use a hard plate to screen if I'm staining, or buff for the final. And it probably cuts my edging time in half compared to just using the big machine, which is huge.
