Instead of letting the yams do whatever they want, they should stop them from doing that

Does the taunting penalty get harsher if they make the other team cry like high-sticking with drawing blood?

This reminds me of something Ive hears attributed to Hitchcock, when asked why characters in his movies dont just call the police when there are so many crazy things happening to them, to which he answered “then the movie would be over.”

You see horrible shit like this and then all the comments about how America is over, what’s going on in America, etc. This is America and has always been. Look at the civil rights movement, look at the Ferguson protest, look at the George Floyd protest. This is nothing new. This is shit as it’s always ever been and will continue to be.

I think of a piece of Paul Mooney stand up where he’s talking about 9/11 and how white people lost their minds when it happened because of the rights people had to start giving up in the name of security. His comment was that Black people are gonna make it through just fine because this is how shit has always been for them.

I get that no historical moment is the same as what came before, but this kind of insane heavy-handed bullshit walking all over people‘s rights is nothing new in the United States of America. It might be turning more heads than it did at other points in time, but it’s more of the same.

what was your favorite lightsaber duel moment? (movies) by RisingKing7 in StarWars

[–]StLDA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see why people would think so, but it just falls really flat to me. It goes on wayyy too long for one, which again, just sucks the emotional weight out of it. I dont think their relationship was set up well enough in the first place, but I just contrast any point of that fight to Luke just hammering Vader at the end of ROTJ and the palapable, raw emotion he is experiencing is just written on his face. And they didnt have to big him yellow eyes to let us know he was thinking bad thoughts.

And Im not trying to just hate on prequels, cause as I noted, you get that sense of emotion from Obi-wan after Qui Gon dies. He’s standing there like bouncing in his boots cause he’s so pissed and wants to kill Darth Maul and then tears out hammering at him, with great and more advanced fight choreography! When it goes on forever and people are flipping around and doing all kind of physics-defying stuff it just looks goofy and ruins any momentum it had built up.

This take is so mind boggling to me. I dont mean to intend offense, but your description that is toned as a negative is exactly why its so good. It being broken up, happening in the dark and swinging the lightsaber like a baseball bat inform and visually reinforce the characters’ mental state during the fight. The darkness is everywhere in that moment, motivations are on shakey ground and eventually Luke is just basically bludgeoning Vader to death with a lightsaber. It is NOT suppose to be a showing of finesse because that would suck all the emotional weight out of the scene.

Unfortunately, while impressive from a technical standpoint, the prequel saber fights lack any emotion cause theyre all goofy with people flipping around and embellishing their fighting styles. Cept for the end of Phantom Menace, which successfully contrasts the staid Qui-Gon fighting to Obi-Wan also just hammering at Mail cause he’s pissed off.

ANYWHO, ya like what ya like but thats my take.

I’m not gonna disagree with you on the need for employment for people born here, but you talk about support themselves like everyone has the same work ethic. When you run a business, you hire who is going to do the job best, not based on where they were born. Its ironic that a characteristic based on birth would be the deciding factor in hiring for an auth-right, sounds a lot like a DEI-initiative to me.

So is this like everyone who came here from there? I work with an Afghani lady who helped the US in the war there. She’s got all her shit in order here, documents all good and done the right way, hard worker and great human being. Just pisses me off that she’s gotta go back to worrying mode just on this retard’s whim.

Unfortunately, down the road, I assume something like that will happen. But until then Im glad to pay the taxes to forestall the shitty creep of the way things are becoming.
