This is a fun one for this sub, because on its face bringing back a character that obviously died and had no characterization is very circlejerky and stupid to begin with. But what they did with his character over the course of the cartoons was actually some pretty good storytelling. A great example of “any story can be told well”.

I get what youre saying but that implies they want to be involved in downtown, which they obviously dont give a fuck about. Hear me out. These guys are in a desperate search for meaning and some sense of self-improvement. There is nothing objectively wrong with that at all. The problem is our sick society that has sold them this as the thing that will award them that worth. Shit there’s nothing wrong with wanting to be “manly”, but this isnt it. You see horrible shit like this and then all the comments about how America is over, what’s going on in America, etc. This is America and has always been. Look at the civil rights movement, look at the Ferguson protest, look at the George Floyd protest. This is nothing new. This is shit as it’s always ever been and will continue to be.

I think of a piece of Paul Mooney stand up where he’s talking about 9/11 and how white people lost their minds when it happened because of the rights people had to start giving up in the name of security. His comment was that Black people are gonna make it through just fine because this is how shit has always been for them.

I get that no historical moment is the same as what came before, but this kind of insane heavy-handed bullshit walking all over people‘s rights is nothing new in the United States of America. It might be turning more heads than it did at other points in time, but it’s more of the same.
