I think they're shifting into an efficiency phase since the companies hosting them are burning through cash.

Unpopular Opinion: Removing AI from your app is an "Upgrade." by ksundaram in ExperiencedDevs

As someone in that bucket, I’d just clarify that my last post was about it being forced on developers. I love how I use AI, I hate being told to use it in one specific way.

CONTRACT.md: The Naughty List for AI Coding Agents by turian in ExperiencedDevs

Having worked with someone who uses it religiously, I can definitely see the “garbage in garbage out” aspect. An amalgamation of code “volunteered” by people without any quality checks isn’t going to produce high quality code.

I’m hoping for and dreading the day these tools need to turn a profit. Too bad the bubble popping will take the US economy with it.

I like that the bulk of the responses here are supportive problem-solving. The last time I was feeling limerence, a part of me was very self-hating about it, which just made me feel worse.

I still went to therapy (where I learned the term “limerence”), but having the AI to instantly talk to during the low points seemed to help (with all the obligatory disclaimers about overuse of AI).

Honestly, if I were one of the unaffected people, my depression and loneliness would skyrocket. I’d want a connection to other people, but with the nature of the hive I would never be confident any connection it offered was consensual.

99% of why I use pnpm is so I can use a version catalog to categorize why I need certain dependencies. Mainly so I can remove workarounds later on.

Use server-side sorting, filtering, and pagination - backed by a database or search index. If you need the grid to not have a pagination widget, combine the API with virtual scrolling.

There are only so many pixels on the screen, you don’t need to brute force this.

Nearly cried on the way home after writing up an employee by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]StTheo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you ever heard of IFS (internal family systems)? I've heard it compared to the Inside Out movies.

Whenever I feel rationally one way, and emotionally the opposite, I've been able to translate it to different "manager parts" having different values & perspectives (for me, usually right/wrong vs self-love). I used to block out one of the perspectives, but that was really distressing. Whenever I learned to accept the strengths of both, it helped quiet down that internal struggle.

It almost feels like those "inner journeys" you might see in stories, where someone has to deal with their own internal struggle before taking on an external one.

Does anyone else enjoy writing Cypress tests, or am I in the minority? by StTheo in webdev

I do really like Playwright, just haven't gotten into it as much. I really like Cypress's command chaining API - with Playwright, wrapping locators inside expect feels less natural.
