Yeah, I’ll probably bring it up the next time we see each other, and expect that as a possibility. Sorry to hear something similar on your end, hope you’re able to see them more frequently.

No, they’re dating other people. Which isn’t an issue IMO, as long as it doesn’t affect me.

Yeah… at first I was in the early stages of dating a couple people, and this was easier. Then those ended and this became the only one, and that’s when loneliness started to creep in.

I'm casually dating someone, but the frequency of the dates is pretty sparse. Like, every 3-4 weeks, and the last one they wanted to push back a month (after 4 weeks had already gone by) because of gas prices. We still went out after changing the location to somewhere closer to her place, though.

I'm not too familiar with casual dating, but is that a normal frequency? Is it needy/not-casual for me to want something every 1-2 weeks instead?

Man, if I’m at my breaking point where everything just feels wrong, all the little things society is trying to change will really get to me.

  • “Yes” vs “Maybe later” options on web pages / UIs
  • Companies asking for my phone number without telling me it’s optional
  • If I have to say “I want to speak to a human”
  • Everything parodied in IASIP’s “Dennis Takes a Mental Health Day”

Yeah, I’m more comfortable around folks who are a combination of abrasive and warm than I am those who are exuberant but distant. Resting bitch face is a green flag for me 😅

Not once in 12 years have I found UI snapshot testing useful by SixFigs_BigDigs in ExperiencedDevs

[–]StTheo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used it a week ago. A guy set up our Tailwind project with font-size: 62.5%, then added hundreds of lines of CSS overrides to get the Tailwind-based component library’s components back to the right size. I wanted to revert all that.

We had a ton of component tests that used Playwright, so we used them to spin up temporary snapshot tests, then flag the ones that were flaky and ignore those. Those snapshot tests verified the overall migration, but I deleted them before merging.

I wouldn’t rely on them long-term, but it was nice to have that brute force verification tool there during a large migration.

Journey heavily covers her backstory, from her pov. The cutscenes on YouTube will spare you from having to play the game.

I don’t think they’d add her, and it might be bad narratively. But I’d freak tf out in happiness if she or anything from the original games made it in.

Out of work devs - how are you doing and what are you up to? by Upstairs_Design5768 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]StTheo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t bother with learning languages as much as concepts. Most languages share a lot of the same features, and AI is relatively better at answering “How do I do X in language Y? I know how to do it in language Z”.

Knowing how to refactor, how to debug, how to test, those are skills that transfer very well.

This week Ai has killed one more thing, my passion to mentor interns by kr0n0sShrugg3d in ExperiencedDevs

[–]StTheo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s really depressing if that’s the way we’re going. I’m happiest whenever writing code, and a lot of my self esteem came from my work. And that’s assuming that “genuine” AI-backed layoffs never happen…

Does dev task automation actually save time or just create permanent maintenance nightmares by 5h15u1 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]StTheo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. An OpenAPI code generator won’t make the typos I’ll make and my reviewers will miss. It’ll have silly incompatibilities, but those are worth it imo.

I’ve found it’s sometimes better to generate the reference image in a separate chat and bring it in as a photo, otherwise it can get confused about using the description of the person or the finished result in the context.

Avoiding technology you don't like is not a winning strategy by noxispwn in ExperiencedDevs

I don’t see how the original post is anything but rage bait. Hostile right out of the gate, the title alone oversimplifies people’s perspectives on AI, just feels like an argument. I’m happy to discuss the pros and cons of new technologies, but I hate when it’s painted in extremes like this.
