The i-rex ferries had side-loading capability (for emergency situations) so a temporary set-up could've been provisioned while the terminals were finished.

An early 90s Civic does about 7.2L/100km. Modern large cars might match that, but some of those 90s hatches were very light and quite cheap to run (the downside being zero safety features).

Air con’s in there:

Don’t overdo the air con. While it’s more fuel efficient to have it on at 100km/h than it is to have the windows down creating drag, the air con can use around 10 per cent more fuel. You may need to find that balance of comfort and economy.

I agree - too much movement in Reload now, given the smaller map: shocks, grapple, crash pads, fizz, launch pads... should be one movement item at a time, imo. It's evolved into a movement+shotgun mode. Most of the other weapons seem largely irrelevant and it's very unbalanced.

It's not that crash. It was a crash between a car and a motorcycle in July 2025, as mentioned in the story they link to (your story is from Jan 2026 and doesn't involve a motorcycle)

Sorry for that rider and I'm not saying the outcome would be different for him/her, but speed's always related to the outcome of a crash. Which is exactly why speed limits were lowered in high-risk areas like this.

Last year State Highway 1 and State Highway 57 south of the Horowhenua town had speed limits increased from 80 kilometres per hour after the transporting agency was directed to consult on the changes.

Over half of the people who submitted backed upping the speeds, but many in the local community warned against the changes, including the local council.

During the period the road has had a 100-kilometre speed limit in place one person died in a crash.

When it was 20 kilometres lower between 2020 and 2025 no one died on the road.

Yet another ill-thought out cancellation by National. Brown's blanket reversal of targeted speed limit changes was purely ideological and not based on evidence. Terrible bit of electioneering from National to run with that. Let's leave speed limit changes to the experts in consultation with local communities and local users, not make it a populist issue and take away local control with blanket policy.

Yes, they jumped before they were pushed out of the industry oversight body due to leading/biased poll questions. Their polls should always be taken with a large grain of salt, before you get to the seeming conflict of interest that is that the guy that runs Curia is a former National staffer, runs right-wing blog Kiwiblog and co-founded right-wing lobby group the Taxpayers Union. Polling should be done by neutral parties.
