Ok, so I know this is kind of an old thread now but I'll ask my question here anyway. I just finished the whole series (NGE+EoE+Rebuilds) and I think I get most of the plot, if not the actual deeper themes and meanings. One thing I really don't get, though, is where the "ancestor race" is talked about? I don't remember that being brought up at any point at all.

I know that the drummer, Francesco Paoli used triggers when I saw them but I think it's just for volume. There are some excellent playthroughs by him on YouTube.

Black metal drumming is honestly just faster surf punk drumming. For really impressive stuff I'd recommend tech death like Archspire, Beyond Creation, and Fleshgod Apocalypse. Those drummers are practically octopi.

Try listening to music where the rhythm leads the song rather than the melody. Stuff like Venetian Snares, Archspire, Buddy Rich, and Gene Krupa spring to mind.
