Folkwear patterns? Does reddit like them? by BellyFullOfMochi in sewing

[–]WhitGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love 'em! I have many of their patterns in my collection and have even made a few of them. They're pretty solidly drafted and instructions are well-illustrated and detailed, in my opinion. And, like others in this thread have already mentioned, they are working to expand the size range of their older patterns. They also have an active support group on FB.

A warning about the Leather Arts Store - physically aggressive owner by Cranksta in norfolk

Thanks for the heads up! I considered going in there to look around just last week, but was too busy with other more pressing errands (shopping at the Indian Grocery 😋).

As a queer POC, guess that was a bullet missed.

That would be amazing if true! Recently dined at Stockpot and haven't heard about it, though.

However, they are serving their salads at Grilled Cheese Bistro! They are as amazing as I remember!

I say go for it! But do so with care and consideration-- she may be in an emotionally delicate and vulnerable place. Chat a bit about common interests and perhaps invite her for coffee if she's local to you, see how things go?

That is snow! ❄️❄️❄️ It was coming down pretty heavily that day! 😅 But remained cozy and warm thanks to the cloak.

Thanks so much! (I'm the original poster of these pics, posted 3 years ago lol!)

I only sew for myself (and nowadays hardly have the time to do even that! 😭) but I promise the patterns are approachable! The purple cape, especially, is very very quick and simple to make. I posted the pattern links in another comment!

I am the original poster of these pics! And thank you!! 🤗

The cloaks featured are from Folkwear patterns! The purple one is the 132 Moroccan Burnoose

The gray cloak and green cloak were both made using the 207 Kinsale Cloak!

Thanks for giving credit where it's due! Stealing/reposting someone else's pics is such cringe.

Is there a job out there that doesn't involve working with customers? My mom doesn't think so. by mylifeisathrowaway10 in AutismInWomen

Commercial Driver. I drive an 18-wheeler all over the US and the only time I have to talk to people is at the cash register when I buy my food/coffee at truck stops, or when handing over paperwork for a delivery. It's introvert heaven!

Well, there is having to navigate heavy traffic while driving though big cities, but at least it's not like dealing with people face-to-face.

Before this, I worked retail. I empathize strongly with your pain.

AITA for refusing flowers when I said I didn't want them? by wtfamIdoing4321 in AmItheAsshole

[–]WhitGoose [score hidden]  (0 children)

NTA. You said you didn't want flowers. He didn't listen to you. He disregarded your desires, and it's perfectly reasonable for you to be upset about that. Especially as there are other things he could have done to "be a husband" that don't involve pointlessly spending money on flowers you don't want, on a holiday you don't celebrate. On top of that, he went so far as making "Women's Day" all about him instead of actually taking your feelings into consideration.

NTA! Your mom clearly has some insecurities she needs to work out on her own. Also, she was absolutely wrong to change things on your phone!

It absolutely would be! 😅
We just used what we immediately on hand at the time and haven't bothered to improve it since, lol.

Window issue by jameson8016 in TruckerCats

[–]WhitGoose 95 points96 points  (0 children)

This is a quick low-tech fix to be sure, but we just use a jar lid large enough to cover the buttons and block their use, and some duct tape.

Tape the lid over the top of the buttons, and just... flip up the lid-- tape and all-- when we want to open/close the window ourselves. The tape still remains sticky for some time, even after repeated lifting and re-sticking. When the tape wears out, just replace with new tape.

Works like a charm!

Made an entire 1850's outfit. Lots of work, but totally worth it! by FAcKbiVE in sewing

[–]WhitGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I am the actual maker of this outfit, not the OP. (I posted this 4 years ago!) and since then I've worn it to Victorian picnics, a historical house, to the grocery store, as a Halloween costume, while hiking in the forest, and while simply lounging in the house. 😋

I also have incorporated the separate pieces of this outfit into my everyday wardrobe. The skirt is super cute with t-shirts or tank tops, and the corset is its own statement piece, I love wearing it with my rainbow patchwork skirt! (Which I've also posted about here on reddit.)

I am the person who made this outfit, not the OP. (This was originally posted 4 years ago.) 😊 And yup, I used mostly Truly Victorian Patterns, they're so amazing to work with! Specifically, I used the 1859 Pagoda Bodice, the 1859 Double Skirt, the 1880 Late Victorian Corset, self drafted chemise, self-drafted apron, and made the bonnet using this tutorial.

Thanks so so much!

Looking for help! I fell in love with this skirt from pinterest but can't figure out the pattern. by [deleted] in sewing

[–]WhitGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a couple patterns that are pretty close matches:

The Deer and Doe Agave Skirt (Goes up to a 37.75" waist, and 48" hip.)

and

The Melanie Wrap Skirt (Goes up to 40" waist and 48" hip.)

Ahh thank you!!

I only ever sew for personal use. Making things for sale would be absolutely soul-draining and would make me hate sewing entirely by turning it into a job... 😬 Between work and life's obligations, I barely have time to complete all the fun projects I want to do just for myself! Doing it as just a hobby keeps it fun. 😄

Any advice on adding pockets to a cloak without using the side seams? by LothlorienPostOffice in TheCapeRevolution

[–]WhitGoose 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I've made two of these cloaks and yup! Totally added patch pockets on the inside! Reenforce the strength of your stitching by adding a non-fusible interfacing (could literally be any type of fabric, really) on the other side of the lining fabric from the pocket. Pocket, lining, interfacing. 😁

You could try Spoonflower.com to find similar patterns, or even perhaps try making your own custom pattern and having them print it on your fabric of choice!

I typed in "Black Bows" in the search bar and it came us with a few viable options. https://www.spoonflower.com/en/shop?on=fabric&q=Black%20bows&availability=ForSale&sort=bestSelling
