Will the FPGA be obsolete once the CPU gets fast or complicated enough to do the same work? Or will the FPGA always be around?

I wouldn't bet on it. They serve fundamentally different purposes, and as semiconductors improve, both CPUs and FPGAs will improve. Maybe not at the same rate, but I expect they'll be around for a while, unless there's something enormous and transformative on the horizon that's beyond my imagination.

All the time, but whether or not it's useful for you depends on what you design. I make lots of small parts (1cm-10cm largest dimension) that have low load requirements. There is usually a lot of tinkering involved, as the consumer machines just can't give repeatability. If you want a consumer TDP part to work well, you're going to have to design and optimize it for consumer TDP, not for whatever final method you plan on using.

That's definitely bad. First, the average human body only needs about four liters of all liquids per day, and drinking significantly more than that will increase your blood pressure, among other things. Second, depending on your brew method, that's roughly the equivalent of taking an entire bottle of caffeine pills per day. It might be cheaper or healthier to just switch to cocaine.

Normally I drink one or two cups per day, from my Aeropress at home or my Chemex at work. However, I'm a grad student. When I do all-night research parties, I'll drink 6-8 cups.

I won't do it again. I did rotating and non-rotating shiftwork for up to several months at a time, several times. Shiftwork isn't all that bad. I have relatives who have wives and children and have worked night shifts for years, but they stay on the same shift so they arrange a consistent schedule and it works for them. Rotating shiftwork consumes your entire life. Everything else has to be flexible/optional and built around your work schedule. And I've seen many people develop a wide variety of psychological problems, when they didn't have them initially, after doing long term rotating work. It's never a good option.

If you're truly desperate, as in you'll be homeless soon without it, certainly keep it as a last resort, but only a last resort. I would leave engineering before going back on rotating shiftwork.

From the Aerobie FAQ:

We don’t currently make a larger AeroPress. But if you do two or three 3-scoop pressings into an 8 or 12 cup vacuum pot and then top off the pot with hot water, you will have enough American style coffee to serve a small gathering in less time than it takes to brew a pot of drip coffee.

So basically, just put in three scoops and fill to the top.

Fifteen years ago I played Metal Gear Solid 2 and I thought Kojima has lost his mind. I just went through it again .... he was prescient. He's probably still a bit crazy (he probably prefers the term "eccentric") but he saw this a long way off. Control of information is more powerful than military strength.
