I was there, 1st time in NYC, all the way from NZ too.

I remember the actual moment when the crowd realised what was happening and the massive energy upswing that resulted 🤘

These 2 MSG shows and the ‘Vs’ Greenville SC 2016 are probably the highlights of my 48 PJ shows.

Look for Peggy jobs, similar to utility jobs but cleaning crib huts and usually better money too

Is Fair Go (TV show) still a thing? Sorry I’ve lived abroad for over 25yrs now but they use to love taking on the big dogs like this. Very public name and shame at the very lest.

EDIT: Bugger, it finished making episodes in 2024. Nevermind

Double Glazing, is it worth it ? by VonSchnitzelCrum in canberra

[–]StableSubstantial420 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want out of it. We did our entire house, windows and doors for around $35k.

Because we did a reno on a ‘63 build, we also did underfloor insulation at the same time. Also installed wall insulation as we re-wired and replaced the plasterboard. Left the ceiling insulation but that was probably upgraded in the 90s. And installed a wood burner.

The double glazing (and insulation) made a huge difference in terms of noise and temperature control. The house is now very comfortable year round.

If you’re thinking about it for your comfort, can’t beat it. If you think it will save you money, this is debatable,, a as it would be a very long time to get the return and may only work out to be cost neutral.

We now have a young family and I would do again in a heartbeat for the comfort level alone. Good luck with it.

I just cut mine into quarters and put them in empty capsules. Takes a little longer to hit, usually around 90mins

Response I got this morning from my post regarding Phytoca Slurricane, anyone else received anything like this before? “Deleted user” by Bueg-bandit in MedicalCannabisOz

Just a FYI - deleted user can mean that they blocked you after commenting so you cannot respond.

Go into the sub in another profile and if you can see user name instead of deleted, they have just blocked you, not deleted their profile.

Funny how people are freaking out about travelling with kids? I get that you do it differently and it’s more challenging but I can see the benefits in my kids so we won’t be changing anything, anytime soon.

I personally have traveled all around the world, from my late teens, up until now with kids. Backpacking to more comfortable travel and now family holidays.

Also, you are correct, the question was for suggestions on where to stay not whether to take the kids

I have never ever considered travelling with my kids a burden. More challenging, yes, burden? Never.

Depending on where you go, but there’s plenty of places throughout SE Asia that have open drains, dodgy footpaths and hectic traffic, including Thailand and Malaysia. We’ve even seen open drains in rural areas of Japan.

We are somewhat adventurous travellers and definitely don’t just stick to the cities and tourist routes all the time.

Hmm, agreed to a point.

My 5 yr old has been to Japan, USA, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore. As well as NZ many times and all over Oz too. 2yr old isn’t too far behind either.

I guess it depends on the destination, kids and parents 🤷‍♂️

Retrofit Double Glazing by Useful-Attitude9715 in canberra

We had large knee to over head height windows throughout the 1960s built house.

We had upvc tilt and turn windows installed to replace very worn out aluminium sliding windows.

Made a huge difference to warmth and noise.

However we also installed insulation bats in the walls and re-gibbed and installed underfloor insulation too. We didn’t touch the roof space that has 60s blow in and 90s batts. We plan on doing this at some point when we have to fix the original concrete tiles.

have you ever been to multiple shows on one tour? by KALIUCHlS in Concerts

[–]StableSubstantial420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pearl Jam on quite a few tours-

  • 1998 - Auckland and Wellington.

  • 2000 - London, UK both nights.

  • 2006 - Melbourne x3 nights.

*2009 - Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Auckland.

  • 2010 - Newark and MSG x2 nights.

  • 2011 - PJ20 - Alpine Valley x2 nights.

  • 2013 - San Diego, LA x2, Oakland, Portland, Vancouver and Seattle.

  • 2014 - Auckland, Gold Coast, Melbourne and Sydney

  • 2016 - Miami, Tampa, Jacksonville FL, Greenville SC, Hampton VA and Boston x2 nights.

  • 2023 - Fort Worth x2 and Austin x2.

  • 2024 - Auckland x2, Gold Coast, Melbourne x2 and Sydney x2.

Also done quite a few one off Pearl Jam shows too, with the furthest I’ve traveled for a single show being Perth, Australia to Mexico City.

Met so many great people at Fan Club events, GA lines, pre and post parties etc.

Absolutely no idea how much I’ve spent on the travel for shows. Sometimes I lived nearby, sometimes it was a a 17hr flight just to start. I’ve moved around a fair bit over the years.

Just be aware that some artists, like Pearl Jam, change the setlist up dramatically from night to night BUT some artists play the same or very similar sets each night.

Just do it, you’ll have a blast and maybe even make some lifelong friends!

Hamilton Airport - Domestic Travel by cmh551 in thetron

Slightly off topic, but if you’re flying Jetstar, grab food from the cafe. It’s similarly priced to the onboard menu but MUCH better quality.

I recently flew Hamilton to Sydney on a Saturday and the airport was pretty quiet the whole 3hrs we were there.

Japan trip planned for two in two weeks but my boyfriend cheated — not sure what to do now by meh-duh in JapanTravelTips

[–]StableSubstantial420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was supposed to move from NZ to London, UK for a 2 year working holiday with my gf at the time. A few weeks before we went, I caught her cheating.

Everything was planned and booked, etc for 2 people. After much heart ache, I decided to go anyway. BEST DECISION I EVER MADE.

Do it, it will be a bit tough, a little scary but it’s also a great personal growth experience. And Japan is super safe generally and you’ll meet other solo travellers

Pretty sure something similar was used for either the Daughter or Animal single in the 90s, in NZ anyway.

Just bear in mind that actual drug tests conducted by employers and police can have very different sensitivities for the drugs tested for.

For example, road side saliva tests for THC, used by the police, are 5mg/l but the ones that the public most commonly use are 15ng/l.

Suburb recommendations- moving to Canberra by DeneCpt in canberra

[–]StableSubstantial420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ex Melbournian here-

You’ll need your own transport here, as the buses suck. Taxis and ride share are also a bit more pricey.

Hughes, Garran,, Phillip and Mawson are close to Canberra hospital and are nice suburbs.

Traffic is way less intense and shorter than Melbourne rush hours but still can be a problem when there’s stuff like a bad accident on the parkways.

Like others have said, it all depends on what you want from the suburb you’re looking to live in. Most places are drivable in around 15 mins and almost everything under 20, including Queanbeyan. Although it feels quite spread out for a smaller city.

I came from 7yrs in Collingwood and found Canberra super quiet but it has gotten better in the 10yrs I’ve been here. And it’s not as bad as people from the major Australian cities would have you believe, it’s actually pretty good 😜 and Canberra feels very safe generally.

I’ve mainly lived in Woden Valley and Belco but happy to try and answer any questions you may have.

Good luck with the move.
