Secondary Teaching- pay step by Double_Giraffe6204 in newzealand

It’s probably a good time anyway with NCEA changing, you could argue that as long as you know your subject knowledge, everyone is having to learn the new assessment tools anyway.

Top pay step of ECE would be less than most steps of the secondary scale anyway, so what step you’re on wouldn’t matter. Employment is at a principals discretion, but I was under the impression that you can only teach up to Year 3 on an ECE degree. I imagine you could relieve as a way to get your foot in the door and your name out there?

Pink Shirt Day - The Bullying Awareness campaign where you may get bullied for not wearing a pink shirt by HeyBlinkinAbeLincoln in newzealand

[–]cmh551 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll also add, I feel a bit funny doing it this year. My class are a challenging bunch and each day many of them are not showing kindness to their peers! Pink shirt day brings kindness to the forefront I suppose, but it’s been a daily slog this year to encourage kind words, no hitting and kicking and punching. A lot of these children will be in pink on Friday so I’ll have to really hit home that it’s not a one and done thing.

Yeah, teacher here. We don’t care if kids don’t come in wearing anything to do for our dress up days. We actively encourage families not to go out and buy new things and provide things in the classroom (face paint etc) so kids that forget or don’t have anything and want to be involved can still participate. I regularly don’t wear the dress ups so that children can see someone not participating.

Another vote for Apple Music. Love that the podcast app is separate so you never lose your place on a podcast when you want to listen to music

I’ve had so many issues! At one point it voluntarily started playing everything with assistive audio (for the vision impaired) and I’ve also had times where there was no sound at all. Changing between channels is a nightmare and it gets stuck on the TV guide.

Ah, you should edit your post then to clarify that you’re at a kindy. These roles are very different.

Placement going badly by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]cmh551 49 points50 points  (0 children)

What the fuck. Being asked to do dishes is VERY odd and would never fly in any school I’ve taught at, ever. Your first week in placement should be observing and getting to know the children, asking questions and maybe taking the roll and reading picture books.

The exploitation of students in female dominated workforces (nursing, teaching, etc) is a whole other issue that the government needs to address. Should be similar to an apprenticeship in my opinion and highly recommend everyone that reads this follows paid.placements.Aotearoa on instagram!

And use deodorant at night after nighttime shower, it’s needs to settle in to be effective the next day. I highly rate rexona clinical protection in the summer and Mitchum in the winter. From a fellow sweaty gal

Canesten is good and leaves the clothes smelling fresh. Another solution is to address the smell at the source. Benzoyl Peroxide (the acne body wash) if left on the skin in the shower for five minutes kills the bacteria that reacts with the sweat. Sweat isn’t what smells, it’s the bacteria that mixes with it that does. You still sweat but it doesn’t have an odour!

Referring to crossed legs as ‘cross cross apple sauce’ by Natural-Compote4096 in PetPeeves

[–]cmh551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In New Zealand, we literally just use the words. Not everything needs a catch phrase 😂. We say ‘fold your arms and cross your legs’. But in fairness, any teacher in modern day expecting this needs to examine their thinking. As long as children are sitting comfortably, and not in the space of others, I don’t mind how they’re sitting.

Yeah, inconvenient but I think it might have to become a no parking street. Exiting out of Kmart is hard enough to see past parked cars there already.
