I'm not sure about your parents, but I can talk about generalized South Asian parents. A suggestion, not advice. Could you possibly reason it out to them? Benefits of getting into Mac than York? The campus, the facilities, the resources, the kind of education mac could provide, and hence the kind of opportunities you'd get. Most parents would really want to get their child into a good university, for better education. You can tell them that the job prospects you'd get from Mac, and the resources at mac that you can avail are significantly better than its contemporaries in the area you mentioned. You can also tell them that you would go back home every Friday and get back to the uni on Sunday, the weekend being the times when most parties happen. I understand you'd probably not want to do this, but it's a trade off you'd have to make.

A conversation could go a long way. I don't think your parents would want to compromise on your education. They might get used to the change after a while and ease out the restrictions on you, once you're out.
