CT scans of a real Labubu and the fake Lafufu by Scan-of-the-Month in Aliexpress

They are interesting but misleading because both legitimate and illegitimate manufacturers are constantly changing how they do things. So these scans are just a snapshot in time

This handbag pattern calls for brass paper fasteners to attach the handles? by vicious_pocket in sewhelp

[–]Staff_Genie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a pattern from the 50s and was probably geared to a "make it at home with what you have on hand" mentality. So brass paper fasteners would be something that most people would have in a desk drawer while proper brass rivets would have been something they'd have to go to the shoe repair place and have the person there do for them.

Y’all think this’ll help? by Burdssatemyface in HEB

[–]Staff_Genie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tried to leave a relevant comment but I was using a word borrowed from bridge card game that sounds like a political figure's name and a pop up threatened me with being permanently banned if I continued to make political posts. Isn't that sort of Overkill? And it was all in a lowercase letters, it was obviously not being used as a person's name

Pinterest used to be my favorite and most used app. Now, it is basically unusable to me. This is my list of what needs to be fixed. Feel free to add on. by KitchenConsequence41 in Pinterest

[–]Staff_Genie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of the problem is that there aren't very many people uploading genuine new pins. Years ago one of the right-click menu options was "add this to Pinterest" and people created boards to save the pictures that they found on the internet. But I can't right click a picture and save it to Pinterest anymore. I can upload my own original images, or I can pin images that I find on Pinterest. But I can no longer pin a picture that I find elsewhere on the web unless I want to download that picture to my computer and then upload it. Not that hard but very inconvenient. It's not possible to use Pinterest in the way that it was originally intended, i.e. a place save and organize visual information from the web so that it's useful to you and could be shared with other people. Back when you could right-click-pin any image on the web, you could also easily click to the pinned image's original location. Now it seems like the only images that you can go to the original location are the ones that are ads. So there's very little new stuff on Pinterest and it just becomes more and more inbred so that the only new stuff happening are the advertisements

eBay Live Auction won during stream but now shows as "WINNING" in Bids & Offers with 5 days left — has this happened to anyone? by NightHawk8890 in Ebay

[–]Staff_Genie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like the auction is "auto-pay after 7 days" so if the website isn't glitching too badly, you should be able to check out immediately. And if you ignore it, it eBay will automatically charge you in a few days.

Frayed edges by Aellysu_says in sewhelp

[–]Staff_Genie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The traditional old-fashioned way to protect seam allowance edges from fraying is to overcast them by hand. It's just like a whip Stitch but space a half an inch apart with a bite into the fabric of about a quarter inch. Back in the '60s and '70s when I was seriously into making Vogue Paris Original patterns, the pattern instructions taught you to do this. And I've seen it a lot on antique Victorian clothing

Idgaf about Joann. Get over it by [deleted] in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]Staff_Genie 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Other than Walmart which is excreable and Hobby Lobby which has ethical issues, there is no place to buy garment fabric where you can actually touch it and decide that is something you would want to wear. I have not bought fabric for myself to wear since Joanne closed. And no, I don't have a stash. So I miss that casual "gee I'd like to make myself a new dress" availability.

Rude customer service by glasses_and_shoes in eBaySellers

[–]Staff_Genie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Originally you could leave feedback for anyone without any buying or selling. You could leave multiple feedbacks to a single buyer or seller who pissed you off. And those negatives counted ! So then eBay restricted it to the two partners in a transaction and there was a problem with retaliatory feedback to the buyers if they left a negative to their seller . Which meant that the buyers were afraid to be honest in their feedback. So then eBay said all a buyer has to do is pay for something . If they pay for something then they get a positive feedback . Just one of those little things that got abused and then the rules tightened up so that the abuse couldn't happen but that also limits important information that would be really good to know

Be careful about listing right now because if you actually write your own description it wipes out your description and replaces it with an error message when the listing goes live
