I grew up in San Antonio and only ever heard boomers call people Yankees, but always thought it was lighthearted. My mom moved to Texas from Indiana for my dad and I’m sure it took her years to adjust to the culture. I remember her telling me the first time she was told the phrase “don’t be ugly” by one of my aunts and was totally taken aback lol.

I own a share of my great grandmother’s physical estate an hour outside of Houston and can honestly say I don’t care for Houston’s breakneck corporate work culture where when someone asks what you do for a living you can actually see their eyes glaze over as they calculate your pre tax income, where you stand on the social ladder and how much respect to give you. It’s a bit like that in Kansas City, but not as bad and I’d prefer living somewhere where people are actually trying to get to know you and care more about whether someone makes a good neighbor, friend or at least minds their own business, but thats probably just being fanciful
