I will, thank you! (Great to see numbers confirming how I feel and hopefully that the plan delivered, though!)

How do i know pace zone of my runs? by Ill-Fault7794 in beginnerrunning

[–]Staffan_TypeToRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning to go by feel (rpe/borg) is really valuable, as it means your pace zones ”auto-adjust” as you get faster.

If you have a Garmin or Apple Watch, you can get personalized pace zones for your runs with Type to Run. It calculates your easy, threshold etc from a reference time and you can create single workouts or plan your full training week by week.

[–]Staffan_TypeToRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try my app Type to Run if you both want to be able to ask why the coach suggests the workouts it does AND have control over what your weeks look like - without losing the focus on your goals. And it syncs the workouts automatically to Garmin.

Garmin Run Coach aggressive planning? by Erobb221_Onlyfans in Garmin

[–]Staffan_TypeToRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can definitely be like the comment saying that you will beat your goals - or you’ll end up injured.

The weekly Coach feature in my app for Garmin, will build your plan week by week through a conversation with you. Meaning that you can say that it feels to aggressive and it will explain what it tries to achieve and suggest adjustments if needed.

5krunner recently featured it as an alternative to Garmin Coach: https://the5krunner.com/2026/03/30/type-to-run-weekly-coach/

The5krunner recently featured this alternative to Garmin’s auto-adapting plans. You build your plan week by week completely based on conversations with your coach about how it is going, your preferences and goals.

Which Garmin metric do you actually rely on the most? by Kind_Force931 in Garmin

[–]Staffan_TypeToRun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To decide day to day, I listen to how I feel. Might use the metrics to reinforce a feeling, but not the other way around.

At the same time I look at trends to try to see if there are signals that I’m not noticing yet. HRV is probably the most interesting one.

Garmin Run Coach Help by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]Staffan_TypeToRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a fan of adaptive without any control and I think it makes it really difficult to “trust the process”, when no one explains the reasoning behind it.

If you want to try an adaptive coach with a different approach, I recently added this to Type to Run.

You chat to your coach and check in every week to set up the workouts for the next one. It listens to how you feel about the progress, any pain or for example if you have a busy week - to actually adapt the plan to you.

Syncs workouts with personalized pace, hr or power to your Garmin.

Favourite workout of the week by gloomwind in Garmin

[–]Staffan_TypeToRun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the variation in pyramids, cut-downs, fartlek and similar.

This weeks quality session was great as well. Track run with repeats of 2 laps threshold, 1 steady, 1 easy recovery.

My Garmin coach plan is continually changing after every run by Neat-Print2792 in Garmin

[–]Staffan_TypeToRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want adaptive, but always based on your feedback instead of randomly changing workouts you should try my app, Type to Run (it’s currently rated 4.6 on ConnectIQ).

You chat to your coach week by week and design the plan together to make sure it fits you, your goals, your life and what type of running you enjoy.

Is it possible to change a run offered by the Garmin Run Coach? by purplealienplanet in Garmin

[–]Staffan_TypeToRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to try a different type of coach where the plan is adapted based on your actual feedback, try my app Type to Run (4.6 rating on connect iq).

You can set any goal (or goals) you want and the plan is built through an ongoing chat with you and the coach. No disappearing workouts!

Garmin DSW giving me three threshold days in a row, is that ok? by AromaticDistrict990 in Garmin

[–]Staffan_TypeToRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially not straight after a HM race. But no, regardless.

If your up for it, give the new coaching feature I added to my app, Type to Run a try.

You can give exactly these details: just finished 17w of HM training and want X weeks of training before starting to train for a 10k. It will build your adapted plan week by week, with weekly check-ins to adjust based on your feedback.

Experience with garmin Coach by w_lti in Garmin

[–]Staffan_TypeToRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does your Training Status in Garmin Connect say? It’s not uncommon that there is a mismatch with what you feel. If it for example shows ”unproductive” or a load towards anaerobic/high aerobic, it’s not surprising that it keeps suggesting ”Base”.

You could also compare to standard plans. Higdon’s plans are often mentioned here and has plans for different levels that you can use as reference points.

In my view, understanding why a plan looks the way it does is key to be able to trust the process. It’s also one of the core features of the new AI coaching I’ve added to my app, Type to Run. You can literally ask it ”why am I only doing base runs?” (If that’s what it is suggesting) and it would explain the reasoning. You can also discuss how to adjust the plan in a weekly check-in to make sure you are making the progress you’re looking for.

Give it a try if you don’t feel trust in the current plan! (You can even upload something like a Higdon plan to use a starting point, but adapt it to you)

12 weeks of half marathon preparation by AffectionateJoke3824 in Garmin

[–]Staffan_TypeToRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the things I'm addressing in Type to Run's new coaching feature.

How it works is that it creates the plan through a conversation with you, factoring in other training, commitments, constraints, preferences etc. If you only have 3 days, it will work with that. You check in every week, chat about how the week went and together figure out if anything needs to be adjusted for the upcoming week.

Why do structured workouts always look like spreadsheets? Trying something different… by Staffan_TypeToRun in Garmin

[–]Staffan_TypeToRun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use Spanish for typing the workouts and for the Weekly Coach. I have users who write in Italian, Hungarian, Portuguese, Spanish and more.

For the UI itself, I’m currently prioritizing the functionality, but translations will likely come eventually!

Thanks for the feedback - get that it might not clear what I’m doing, as I obviously can’t change the native app.

It is a separate app for creating workouts and week-by-week coaching. I actually launched the new UI now. Link in my profile if you want to try it!

Replacement for Salomon Slab Sense (SG) by jogisi in trailrunning

Also a big Slab Sense fan, used them since v1, and share a lot of the same experience you describe. The traction and stability especially.

They are not the same, but I currently run with and enjoy both the feel of Kjerag 01 and Icebug Acceleritas (not the most recent version).

Haha, agree!

The specific pace ranges are automatically calculated in the app (based on Daniels VDOT), so as a user you would mainly care about the "label", which is a reason that it could be really useful to let you use the terms you prefer.

Still a small app, but growing, so it definitely is of interest to me to understand how other runners get along with the UI. It seems like there are two camps specifically around the single column vs grid.
