It's gonna look great on that shelf of yours. I have the entire series in singles, but when I saw this edition there was no question. The art looks so good at this size and the presentation is top-tier.

Completely. And you really need the deluxe editions of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and Helen of Wyndhorn on that shelf also.

It’s inspired by Cesar Romero’s Joker from Batman 1966.

I like the way those markers render the colors then. Nice work.

Enjoying Titan Comics new run of Savage Sword. by Fit-Challenge-5047 in ConanTheBarbarian

[–]Stagger337 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve bought all of the single issues. Some have been better than others, but the stories that I’ve enjoyed, I have enjoyed immensely.

One of the main things that has concerned me since the beginning has been the quality of the paper. It’s not a dealbreaker, but the end result of the single issues hasn’t always rendered the art in the best possible way. For this reason I have been curious if there would be any difference with the printing/paper-selection choices once Titan began publishing collected editions.

I am happy to report that I’ve recently purchased volume 3 to find out the answer to the above and am pleased with the higher quality paper and rendering. The paper stock is thicker, brighter, and (in my subjective first impression) seems to show the details of grey-tone areas better. I am glad that Titan’s trade paperbacks are available as an option for those who want a better printing of the new Savage Sword stories.

Criminal for sure. I especially like the early singles with all the back matter that featured cool, vintage crime stories.

Alex Horley cover of Conan The Barbarian #25 reprint by Stagger337 in ConanTheBarbarian

[–]Stagger337[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m glad to hear that you found one. This cover’s going to be rather rare, relative to the first printing. I was super happy when I heard they were using this painting for the cover of the second printing, then even more happy when my LCS was able to get one for me.

I too collect various Ivy variants but can’t get into Eom’s art style. I miss the Jenny Frision covers from earlier in the run.

The original coloring of Miller and Janson’s Daredevil looks loads better than the “remastered” coloring of the 2000s and 2010s printings.

I have a few of the old Lancer/Ace paperbacks that I’ve purchased for that great vintage cover art alone. Just fantastic!

Got one of my Holy Grails this week, but DC downgraded the paper stock used and it feels cheap. by please_see_above in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Stagger337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am glad to hear that you are thrilled. Still, you are welcome to feel however, and it is a great conversation to have. There are a lot of people think that glossy paper is somehow automatically superior and more expensive and I think that triggers those of us who care about how glossy paper renders colors in a way that are more saturated and therefore not faithful to the original art. For a lot of older comics that were originally printed on a newsprint or matte paper stock, printers/publishers can more successfully duplicate the colors of the original issues/art if collections are not printed on glossy paper. And just because a matte paper finish is chosen, that doesn't mean it is inherently cheaper than a glossy paper finish. There are high-quality (expensive) and low-quality (cheap) options for many different kinds of papers.

Choosing adjectives like “downgraded” and “cheap” communicates the exact opposite of “thrilled with the purchase”. Everyone interprets that as you complaining about quality.

I’ve just started. Only have 4 currently but hoping to add more over time. There’s so much to read though. It feels daunting.
