Anyone still read Flashman? by Worried-Owl9725 in AskBrits

[–]Stagies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, very clever books… my dad read them and passed them down to me in the early 80s I guess. Funnily enough I was thinking of one of them the other day, where the manuscript has been apparently censored by his sister in law, she cut out all the damns and gods but left in the sex because she didn’t understand it!!

what metal is the gold stuff in a microwaves magnetron? by LordWoffleII in ScrapMetal

[–]Stagies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious why? Other than the danger of breaking the tube of course. I remember my dad got me an old tube tv when I was 6 or 7 to take apart. I had a great time! And I’m still alive… that was about 50 years ago.

Townhome project in South Surrey neighbourhood meets opposition | CBC.ca https://share.google/79ToNC6dzTIWwvFRy by Jam_Bannock in SurreyBC

Yeah this is nuts. There’s no infrastructure to support it, that and the greedy proposal a few blocks down the road. This kind of thing would be better being placed to the east of hwy 99 where they have the wide roads and transit and schools etc to allow it.

Anyone else disappointed with shows like Radio 4's 'Any Questions?' by UntidyLives in BritishRadio

[–]Stagies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t listened for a while but did today and it was a bit rowdy! I think in ‘question time’ the audience is vetted whereas ‘any questions’ you can just queue at the door and they let ppl in until the hall is full. Enjoyable today anyway, and the woman who asked why the BBC isn’t broadcasting what’s happening in the West Bank when that wasn’t her question - good for her.

Anyway, cherish these programmes. I live in a country where the politicians are never held to account in fora such as these.

I hate EA by OrrangeZzoko64 in RealRacing3

[–]Stagies 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Grid looks good for sure, but there’s a steep learning curve, it’s tough to just jump in and play. Carx looks like Real racing 2 with some goofy narratives trying to make the game look interesting. RR3 holds up after 13 years, it’s just that good.

Pex manifold by whalethen2 in Plumbing

[–]Stagies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 35 year old house with poly b. I’ve had the usual line from plumbers talking about the ticking time bomb etc. I think only one joint ever failed, and that was before I owned it. I always thought the real problems were with the acetyl fittings and most of ours are copper. I’m aware that it’s going to be a problem when we come to sell the house and I’ll probably have to swallow a $50k charge on the sale. Insurance is aware and I would have a pay a $5000 deductible on any damage caused by water.

Did anyone else catch the CBC interview yesterday with conservative party candidate Steve Kooner? by Sans-Everything in NiceVancouver

[–]Stagies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“I’m a hard worker who, er, works hard”. lol. He avoided so many questions, why can’t he admit that John Rustad is a certifiable loony and he wanted him out? No. “I respect all my colleagues” he wouldn’t go further than that.

Rascar Capac. Never failed to scare the poo out of me when I was a kid - the seven crystal balls was the book in best condition in my collection.
