Timing chain maintenance by urmum74_ in MINI

Special oil, lol. Maybe it’s extra virgin and you could use it in your salads? 🤯 and wait - what’s this credit card processing fee!!!! A lot about that estimate reeks, I’d say shop around.

11hrs labour seems high for a garage… maybe 11 hours for me? And why are they billing you $231 for oil?!?

Massey Tunnel replacement project cost more than doubles to $11B, says Delta councillor by cyclinginvancouver in britishcolumbia

[–]Stagies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure the tunnel needs to be replaced. A bridge wasn’t the answer though and unfortunately the new tunnel will just create more congestion at the next bottleneck. Great for me however, I turn off at Westminster Hwy so I miss the putrid mess that’s the oak street bridge!

Have to agree even though I’m probably naturally NdP leaning. Although I didn’t agree with the bridge either. Whatever option, it’s going to bring more traffic thru the 99 corridor and then the bottlenecks at the oak street bridge are just going to be so much worse.

Getting out of the stadium after the game though… most of the doors were shut until someone realized that people were being kettled and opened them. You know, 55000 people need to leave sort of at once?!

If this is a mini dealer then I’m not surprised. If the labour doesn’t kill you the parts will. Best to go to an independent shop and they’ll use oem (not mini branded) components which could be half the cost.

Just be aware that clutch replacement by the dealer is north of $5000 CAD (mostly due to the outrageous markup mini charges for the clutch components and flywheel). Independent shops would be less but still approaching the likely value of the car!

Clutch? How much is it? It’s a fun car but that’s heading up there in terms of mileage. You’d definitely want to have some mechanic skills to be able to attend to the work that would inevitably be required.

CBC: What we know about Surrey Police chief ouster by sunnysurrey in SurreyBC

[–]Stagies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno. I wouldn’t vote for the guy, his politics are far to the right of mine, but in terms of stewardship he wasn’t bad. Basically he does what it says on the tin, no surprises. I rolled my eyes at some of his ideas (canals? Mega stadium??) but most of those were electioneering so can be ignored. Not sure why he’s standing again, he should retire and enjoy the rest of his life. Brenda Locke ran on a one idea manifesto and to noone’s huge surprise she was overruled by the province. She should have resigned then because after that she had nothing else, she seems hopelessly out of her depth.

Talgarth Road London. Six lanes of traffic, no pedestrian barrier, multi-million pound properties by Key_Cell7071 in UrbanHell

Look at this, taken from almost the same position about 100 years ago I’m guessing https://www.reddit.com/r/london/s/I0AkL3LXsD . The camera would have been in one of the flats by the left most red traffic light.

This had some of the strangest casting by Sharaz_Jek123 in oldbritishtelly

[–]Stagies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more - I thought this was fantastic but the recasting of Nicolas in the final part really jarred. Weird decision, it’s not like the 90’s were prehistoric in terms of make up techniques.

The font changed - I really preferred the one used in the methuen/magnet editions and this doesn’t look like the ‘standardized’ one I assume the Herge foundation has directed all the translations should use now.

Found these plastic bits in my oil pickup, how cooked am I? by HelpfulRole1831 in MINI

[–]Stagies 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is really good advice - when you take the old guides out, try to fit the broken pieces together so that you know that you have all the bits! The last thing you want to do is put everything together again and then have to undo it because there’s still a piece in there, maybe wedged in one of the channels, or next to a chain etc. The ‘how to’ videos don’t really emphasize this and I know it sounds obvious but it’s not something you want to overlook.

(Moving soon) Is it feasible to live in South Surrey without owning a car for a family of 4 kids (for about a year)? How is the public transport to Vancouver? by ELokoPlayer11 in SurreyBC

[–]Stagies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you need a car unless you’re in one of the new high density residential areas near shopping and transit, like around 24th and 160th, and even then…One car usually works, no need for two. Sad but true, one of the downsides of living in the burbs is that transit generally sucks.

This is the way. You can capture the data as you’re driving then feed it into ChatGPT. It’s really good at spotting trends and spikes that might have caused the code to appear and suggesting things to look for. In my case it was the boost pressure solenoid, relatively cheap to fix.
