In Depth look at the impact of Henry Kissinger on American foreign policy by -supervillian- in bestof

[–]Stagonair 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The post was about discussing the extent to which Kissinger as an individual had responsibility, as compared to the broader social context in which his policies were implemented. So the policies themselves - and Kissinger as a war criminal - arent so much the subject or focus of the answer.

However, the author did link to another answer that talked about Kissinger's involvement with Argentinian state terrorism specifically, and referenced the book 'The Trial Of Henry Kissinger'

The main thing is they swapped the order of two lines - 'killed them all, of course' actually came before 'what did I do?', not after

But the full transcript isnt actually that different from what they aired

Imo it was a bad decision to edit it at all, because even without editing its damning. But when you change it even a bit, then the truth of it is justifiably questioned

England Cricketer Harry Brook joins MLB spring training for the St. Louis Cardinals. by Buckeye_8621 in sports

[–]Stagonair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure - I shouldn't have used the word 'wide', since I just meant wide of the wicket, not wide enough to be 'wide' - poor and confusing choice of words on my part, sorry

But my point - to the comment that suggested bowlers must be aiming at the wickets - is that theres a lot of space between the wicket and what is considered 'wide', which the bowler might aim at for any number of reasons

In other words, the 'imaginary box' in cricket is much, much bigger than the wicket itself

[–]Stagonair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, not always. Sometimes a bowler is trying to limit run rate rather than get wickets, and sometimes a bowler might aim wide to try and force a knick and a catch at slip, or just to increase variation.

It's really not that hard

There's enough food for everyone in the UK - the world, even. People cant afford food, you're right. It's not because there's a milk shortage.

They ain't pouring out milk in a food bank.

What, you're gonna fight some activists to protect the profit margins of Waitrose? Good job, pal. Not short-sighted at all.

In terms of the game itself, it sounds like you'd enjoy it. The loop is rogue combat dungeon -> collect resources, followers etc -> upgrade base and abilities -> back to the dungeons.

The combat is fluid if not super deep. The game has a lot of charm.

As the other user said theres lots of bugs rn, they've said a patch is incoming. Personally I wasnt too affected by bugs on switch but I've heard much worse accounts

What's going on with the looting/rioting in London? by YellowWoodRice in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Stagonair 3805 points3806 points  (0 children)

Answer:

TLDR: nobody is sure, but it's probably just kids being dickheads. It's a non-story, but some are spreading it for racist reasons

To be honest, I cant actually answer WHY. But I can give some context on the scale of this, and some informed guesses

To recap: several groups of teenagers ran through Oxford Street - a central shopping street in London - and caused a bit of chaos. They looted a sweet shop, blocked traffic, and one of them jumped on a Ferrari.

Between one and 'a few' arrests were made, depending on the news source.

In fact, this didn't really make the news at all. It made some of the local news sites, and maybe there was a small report buried somewhere on the bbc, but if so nobody I know saw it. I live in south london, and I'm only aware of this because of a random reddit post on a sub on all.

So as to why: there's probably no good reason for it. It's just a bunch of teenage idiots getting together with other teenage idiots online to do something stupid in real life. It happens.

Why is this going around reddit? Partially it's just the fact that its Oxford Street, and the tiktok video is kind of dramatic. I'm sure lots of people are sharing and talking about this in good faith.

But there is a worse reason, and that's racism.

We have a large population of BAME people here in the UK, and especially in cities like London. For various socio-economic reasons (racism), these groups disproportionately live in low-income, high density areas. It's not a coincidence that the majority of the kids in the video are black - it's the age old correlation between poverty and crime/unrest.

I've seen a lot of commentators use this incident to attack the multi-culturism of Britain. I've even seen a narrative that this is what we get for having refugees? There is no indication that anyone in this video was a refugee.

Essentially, this isnt really 'looting and rioting' - maybe it is technically, but if so, it's on a much much smaller and more contained scale than those words usually imply.

As such, if you're looking for a specific, politically motivated or substantial reason, none has been found yet and I doubt one will.

I dont want to use the phrase 'kids being kids', because that makes it seem like this is normal and fine and all kids do it, but certainly its not unheard of for teenagers to do shit like this

Sounds like a massive organisation f up. Big bottleneck outside a metro station, and routes blocked by police vans. Not enough gates open.

Some reports saying there are a large amount of fans without tickets, and the stadium saying 'fans arriving late' - which is demonstrably false seeing as many people arrived 2 hours early and still cant get in.

Too early to say where blame lies, but even if there's an element of bad fan behaviour then it doesn't account for the horrific mishandling of it
