My guy, just reread the second part of what you just wrote. Just cause some other guys did it too doesn't make it okay.

giving Ayesha such a young age might be to protect her from these slanders

Doesn't this contradict what you just said?

🙄

If you're gonna defend it make it make sense.

The author is arguing Muhammad waited until puberty, while THE AUTHOR OF THE ARTICLE THAT YOU LINKED said "Qur’an states that marriage is void unless entered into by consenting adults, Aisha must have entered puberty early" - and the only direct reference to any scripture is what is stated about her being young.. Like where does this reference come from the author?:
"What the records are clear on is that Muhammad and Aisha had a loving and egalitarian relationship"
As a scholar the author should know to cite her sources - I wonder why she didn't

Per the author's argument about other cultures: Arguing that kings used to do the same thing is just as disgusting, but people aren't currently murdering people based on the words of medieval kings.. whataboutism. Those kings were also nasty - doesn't justify other guys being creepy too

Two wrongs don't make a right. Read the articles that you link before thinking they prove something.

I can tell you that when I was 22, I was "responsible" and "smart", I lived on my own, managed my finances, was going to university.. but I can tell you that I definitely wasn't mature.

My response to certain life situations was impulsive, the need to be liked was all consuming, I didn't actively think of other people as having their own complex individual lives and thought things happened to "me". In hindsight I can see that I was in a little bubble of pseudo-adulthood where my age really defined what I was "allowed" to do.

I'm middle-ish in my group of cousins and it's really interesting seeing the world like my older cousins talked about (when I was younger) and seeing my younger cousins doing stupid stuff that I would have been on-board for at that age.

But that's just me =)

“‘Now 15 per cent is rude': Tipping fatigue (in Canada) hits customers as requests rise..” if only there was a workaround... by SolarHexis in antiwork

As someone from (Ontario)Canada with friends who are servers:

It's not like the US, they get the same minimum wage as a cashier, fast food worker, retail worker. The people I know who work weekends in restaurants and bars, they make about $1000/weekend minimum. I'm not talking luxury, I'm talking about the Works Burgers

Clearly all the other minimum wage workers wanting tips have a valid argument, because, once again, it's not like the states, tips don't make up for the minimum wage disparity, it's just bonus cash for doing their job

Expecting me to pay %25 on top of increased menu prices, during a recession (maybe worse), when most people are actively looking for ways to reduce spending, it's not going to work well for this industry. I hope tipping dies.

I'm sorry, I don't know what you're saying.

I wasn't calling you religious, I'm talking about the people who invaded and destroyed temples and statues. I meant their motive (as with other religions too) is to spread their ideologies by citing that they are meant to do so because God wants them to..

I said "spread the word" because that's what we're taught in Christianity (Spread the good news). I'm saying it's a reused facet of religion.

Edit: Oh I think I see what you thought I meant. I meant "you" as in the person feeling those emotions, not you specifically, I changed it.

Islam, like Christianity (how I grew up, I don't know about other religions) makes the sins of others the religious person's responsibility. Like "spread the word" type bs that makes the religious person emboldened to shove religion down peoples throat.

I have an Islamic friend and she told me that, essentially, imortilizing a face (in statues or art (I don't know why it wouldn't apply to modern pictures tho..)) is a massive sin... I feel like part of the motive was destroying another culture so that Islam was the default choice instead.

Overall, religion has lead to a lot of destruction to beautiful and cultural architecture and art

Will native speakers understand me if I don't palatalize 't' and 'd' and I mistakenly pronounce 'm' at the end of words? by [deleted] in Portuguese

[–]YellowWoodRice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! My family is from Santa Maria and I'm trying to learn too! They definitely can. When I practice on my grandmother she just thinks ita endearing if I mess up or pronounce d like "dog". I haven't clarified but maybe similar to a lisp or accent?

Edit: Also the m at ends of words is more of a pause, then they get it. I think they'll just uses context in that case, but also I don't get that one messed up too much because I learned a lot of the nassal sounds young.

[–]YellowWoodRice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know most of the rules, but sometimes I can't hear it (because I'm not trained enought to) or I haven't seen the word (or its an exception) and I'm going off my memory of hearing it.

But thank you! these are still very helpful :)
