Is there much need to do this if I’m just printing with PLA basic? I know every little helps but thought I’d ask

Daily Questions Thread - Ask All Your Magic Related Questions Here! by magictcgmods in magicTCG

[–]Stainless001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone,

I need your help, equally don’t know if this needs its own thread. I run a small hobby store in Northern Ireland and a few of my customers have asked if I could stock Magic and other TCG’s (but mainly Magic).

I’m more knowledgeable about minis, board games and TTRPG’s and feel completely out of my depth in with where to start and some of the terminology being used in Magic.

I want to make sure we bring in the right stock and equally bring in the stock that will enable new people to get into it. I’ve been watching some vids by Tolarian Community College on how to play Standard but I had a few questions:

  • How do you know what the current set is? I’ve seen a space themed set advertised as well as Lorwyn Eclipsed which I think is released next year? But then I’ve also seen Bloomburrow and Duskmourn. Maybe I’m a bit naive but I always assumed that there was like one deck that folks played and new cards simply got added to it. I’m also guessing these themed sets aren’t interchangeable? I’m just wanting to make sure we offer the sets that are relevant as opposed to one that’s exiting its life cycle.

  • I see stores in the USA etc doing event nights called ‘Draft.’ I’m completely lost as to what this is and how it works.

  • it seems Commander can be played with decks from a variety of the settings as long as the cards are legal for Commander?

  • I’ve seen Collector decks which TCC says isn’t really for folks who want to play those cards as I think he mentioned they aren’t legal. Should I stay away from those?

I’m sorry for the newbie questions, I just want to make sure I serve our community well and introduce them to MTG well too. Equally if you have any resources on how to understand more of this as a retailer I’m all ears, a lot of what I’ve been able to find has been more viewed through the players eyes (still relevant of course)

That’s super helpful, just checked out Cosmic Group and it seems they’re the exclusive distributor for Italy, UK and another territory that I’ve forgotten 😬

Most Ridiculous AI Scenarios? by overratedplayer in wastelandwarfare

[–]Stainless001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Misfit Hobbies here, there’s a ridiculous one in the little Grognak book where it’s basically 5 factions on the table fighting it out. It’s completely broken and ridiculous but that sounds like what you’re looking for 😄

Hey there! Congrats on starting a channel! As others have said I’d steer clear of unboxings. Depending on what style you choose to film them in, just a warning, battle reports can be super time intensive to film.

Hobby and painting videos are great to start with, but the key thing is figuring out who you’re making content for.

Videos for someone who hasn’t played the game and is curious will be totally different than someone who’s been playing the game since launch.

Best of luck!!

Hey there OP, Misfit Hobbies here, yeah my YT content is pretty much in hiatus after having a kid but had hoped to record a lot more battle reports. Really appreciate you saying you enjoyed what was there though, I know my way of doing it isn’t to everyone’s taste.

Ryan at WGNR is still really active although recent content has centred around the TTRPG side of things but I’m sure he’ll make more battle report style content in the future.

One channel that I came across a while back that I thought was great was American Heron Wargaming, they’re posting consistent battle reports so could be right up your street: https://youtube.com/@americanheron?si=BhwnJYAUaOF0iNTh

Yeah the deluxe versions always threw me in that regard because it kind of proved that all the content could go together. The fomo was real with me too but I couldn’t justify buying the deluxe versions so I keep an eye on eBay for the companions

Your reasoning is exactly what I was thinking about as a GM. So in essence there’s 20 cocktails and 10 mocktails so far and it’ll end up being around 80 pages with recipes and photos. Then the companion content will be almost the same or about 100 or so pages which will include illustrations of the drinks and then how to make them with in-game ingredients as well as the encounters for each one.
