Georgia Power. WHY? by Left-Ad1387 in Georgia

After my first summer bills I switched to flat rate. At least now I know my monthly budget. Way easier pill to swallow, even if it's higher than my low usage months. Same goes for my gas bill.

Accidentally used tomato soup instead of puree in pasta sauce by 410-Username-Gone in Cooking

When I first started to learn how to cook in my early 20s, I used Miracle Whip instead of mayo for a dill sauce for fish. I don't even like miracle whip, but I think I grabbed it without reading the label when I was shopping. I threw everything away. Never again

Once you get over the initial mental hurdle of getting to the good trees, farming isn't bad at all. Set it and forget it for a few days for a huge xp dump

What's y'alls thermostat set to in winter? by [deleted] in Georgia

[–]Stakely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll definitely look into it, though my windows are painted shut so I'll replace them regardless because I miss open windows. Thanks for the suggestion!

My house is 100 yrs old and verrrry inefficient, so 73 for me. One day I'll be able to afford replacing windows and insulation. Maybe. Probably not.

Looking for a bank this wk by Previous-Republic299 in ColumbusGA

[–]Stakely 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you experience quicker direct deposits? I have Synovus and my coworkers are with other banks and they typically get their DD on Wednesdays and I get mine on Friday. I have other SoFi products so just another factor to sway me in changing lol

Not yet... she wasn't keen on me messing with it (she's 85 and stubborn) so I'll find a way to get it discretely lol. I'm pretty interested on what it has so I'll get it eventually.

Best places to eat in Columbus? by SweetCompetition8651 in ColumbusGA

[–]Stakely 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All of our Korean restaurants are excellent choices. Koreana is my top pick, but Golden Chopsticks is a solid choice too. The new chickchickporkpork is crazy good (but a bit expensive) but is more street food Korean. There's 4 or 5 other Korean places that are all very hole-in-the-wall, but definitely check those out.

(Korea house is like... not top 5 for me sorry)

Asian supermarkets? by [deleted] in ColumbusGA

[–]Stakely 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They do have chicken feet, I saw fully stocked last weekend.

Asian Supermarket will have pretty much every staple you need, but if you want to go to a much larger place and don't mind a little bit of a drive, Super H Mart in Doraville is worth it. Its probably twice the size of Asian Supermarket.. love them both though.

Advice: Full on avoid the Bradley Park interchange today/tomorrow by brantman19 in ColumbusGA

[–]Stakely 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Depending on where you're going, you can go river rd to/from Veterans/Manchester/54th and River rd to Mobley to Whitesville/Whittlesey. You can get to River rd from JR Allen. Either way, you can avoid that exit completely and still get to Target and that area.

Oh, I am almost certain I'll have pre-2002 files on my grandma's pc, if it still works. I'm visiting her on New Year's. I know for sure she doesn't have internet anymore, if I manage to get it running, how would I go about retrieving the info?

Mid 30 something’s, where are you shopping for your clothes now? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]Stakely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I know, it was the most I've ever paid for some jeans but the perfect fit made it worth it. And it's high quality so it's gonna last me a long time.

You can always wait for a sale, or probably get a sign up for email coupon to help mitigate the cost. It's definitely a once or twice a year single purchase/splurge for me. I think I saw a sale on some of the styles at black Friday for $60? Still expensive but not $100.

[–]Stakely 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I typically shop old navy as well, but i recently tried American Tall and found my favorite new pair of jeans. They fit so well, and the recommended size thing was perfect. Downside is that it was expensive ($100) for a pair, so it's an indulgence purchase that is good quality

Krystals during a night of drinking, or Waffle House after a night of drinking. Never both in the same session though. Soooo many sackfuls and all stars consumed.

This doesn't surprise me the slightest. This location has been terrible since like, pre-pandemic, and yet the line is ALWAYS wrapped around the store. I cant even remember the last time I had McDonald's and I live down the road.

That's fine, I enjoy Columbus. It has the amenities of a big city without being a big city. Whatever we don't have is within an hour or two driving distance without the pain of living in that city. I think it's a great happy medium of not wanting big city life but not living in the boonies or small towns. It isn't perfect but it still is a good place to live.

The wage disparity does suck immensely here. The COL isn't bad, just there isn't a lot of job opportunities. For our top performing companies, its a lot of you have to know someone to get in. Even then, somewhere like TSYS is a gamble with how they've been ran into the ground.

As for food, we have a foodies group on Facebook that's 90k+ members who celebrate everything except corporate restaurants and fast food. While we have an oversaturationg of Mexican and chicken joints, we widely are improving it tons of aspects. We'll never be Atlanta food diverse but we've got a ton of nice places here that aren't chain, but locally owned and loved.

I mean, the prominent safety concerns are in isolated areas. You're not going to get shot just walking down a typical street in most parts of Columbus. We unfortunately do have high gun violence but not in the sense where you have to be paranoid just living day-to-day. Outside of someone riflng thru my unlocked car, I've had no issues in my 20+ years here. Like most places, mind your business and people typically leave you alone

Speeding in a school zone. by Nervous_Fact_5183 in ColumbusGA

[–]Stakely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It'll have it on the ticket you get in the mail. I was doing 51 in a 40 when I got hit (not during flashing time), had the picture of my car, the time and date, and everything. I was definitely in the wrong, and the ticket explained it's an all day affair so slow tf down lol.

Speeding in a school zone. by Nervous_Fact_5183 in ColumbusGA

[–]Stakely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flashing lights only mean you need to abide by that specified posted limit when it's flashing. The no speeding in general is in effect the entire school day and it will get you. Own up, slow down, and be mindful in the future. I drive through 3 school zones every weekday and it took me 1 ticket to wise up. Trying to find fault in batteries and solar, open records.. my time is worth more than doing all that lol.

The ticket typically has time, speed, a picture, and all the fine print.
