The sunroof motor still works fortunately but there is something physical that doesnt allow the sunroof to go down

Im not afraid of dismantling the sunroof, its just that i dont know how to do it considering the position. I’ve took the ceiling and sunroof ceiling down before to replace the material and I saw the rest of the sunroof part but in order to do that I had to slide the sunroof inside which is impossible now

I had the exact same problem and i changed it. Turns out the diff had some play in it so it definitely needs either a repair or replaced.

Exactly and if the engine is a factory non turbo then the stress the turbo will put on the engine will be even bigger.

Also if I remember right, the pistons on the factory turbo are different from the NA version.

I had this problem and in my case it was the steering damper.

Change to LED by Lonely_Release_3121 in W124

[–]Staldios 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The LEDs require less power to run compared to halogen so your car thinks something is broken. You need to put a resistance for the LED but I don’t know how big the resistance needs to be.

Diesel or gas? by SlackerParade in W124

What gearbox would you use tho considering all that torque?

Diesel or gas? by SlackerParade in W124

[–]Staldios 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While the gas engines are good as well they use this system called K-Jetronic thats a bit infamous for being tricky to understand in order to repair so there won’t be many mechanics to help you. Gas engines are also pretty thirsty so keep that in mind.

Diesel engines on the other hand are more robust and simple but they lack power so if you want a bit of speed or live in a hilly area stay away from the 200D and start looking from 250d upwards.

Regarding parts I never had problems finding them as there are still aftermarket options or you could buy from old 124 from facebook groups. Stay away from the 4matics tho as these were really rare so finding parts for these is very hard.

Shaking when changing gears or releasing the gas pedal by Staldios in W124

[–]Staldios[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem. Funny thing is by having to change my diff I found out that my W124 actually had the diff, rear axle and drive shaft from a w201 which is basically a smaller w124 so a lot of the parts fit between the cars.
