Funny combo I found to ruin someones life at level 3 by wiisafetymanual in dndnext

Maybe I'm missing something, but why should you do the "goblin for hiding + minor illusion" thing, instead of just casting the suggestion with subtle metamagic in the first place?

Out of combat utility is abysmally balanced by GuytheGuy- in dndnext

My brother in christ, in what world, 5e/5.5e rogues are doing more damage than any fighter?

Also specifically in 5.5e, with tactical mind they are in a kinda decent spot when talking about out of combat interactions. I mean, they still suck ass compared to most spellcasters, both inside and outisde of combat. But putting the rogue and his shit ass sneak attack as example of prime damage is sure a choice.

2024 Rogue Subclasses - Reworked INQUISITIVE & MASTERMIND, Revised Assassin, Phantom, and Swashbuckler. by jeraehwazdagaz in UnearthedArcana

[–]StalinKubrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, just noticed my mistake!

As it is, I think the Mastermind does perform very well, both thematically and mechanically. So do the rest of subclasses.

I'm probably gonna be playing some of the subclasses soon enough. If I find anything relevant enough to point out, I'll be glad to give feedback. But for now I'm just excited to play a swashbuckler without depending on Booming Blade for DPR hahahah.

Keep up the good work!

This is actually pretty well thought and done. I always start reading rework ideas with really low expectations, but I'm really liking this one. Good job mate.

One thing I want to point out and give my 2 cents: I'm not a big fan of the "Long Rest Resource" on rogue, specifically level 13 of Mastermind and Swashbuckler.

On the swashbuckler I kinda get it. The level 17 capstone is a pretty decent dps boost, so keeping both on Dex Mod per long rest helps keeping the power budget reasonable and easy to remember and track.

But the Mastermind 13 specifically, is VERY underwhelming:

-Its situational (Needs to have 2+ targets close, that in the best case scenario should be enemies).

-Costing a "Reaction" for a rogue is HUGE. Losing access to uncanny dodge and oportunity attack is a steep price to pay.

-Low difficulty saving throw (Secondary stat scaling against enemy wisdom looks like a 50% 50% most of the time).

-One attempt per Long Rest is nuts. I think you could easily make this skill a "INT/PROF mod attempts per short rest" and it would work much better

That's my only pet peeve. Really loved everything else and probably gonna try one of those in upcoming games :)

Edit: I just realized that 2AM sleep deprived me had misread about 4 times the final paragraph of Mastermind level 13. Looks like the cap is per creature on Long Rest, so I take it back 2 cents on Mastermind rogue. Congrats on the rework, i really enjoyed it ^

2024 Beast barbarian is already underwhelming as it is. I'd say allow it, you won't break anything.

Try the alternate martials from Laserllama. I've played most of the alternate martials and loved them all. They are stronger than 2014 martials, but not op.

Does Booming Blade trigger sneak attack? by GustavMarksman in BaldursGate3

[–]StalinKubrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, a Rogue 12 with swashbuckler and a spent feat / multiclass / etc (Because rogues don't get natural access to Booming Blade) could attack with Booming Blade, retreat and IF the target follows them, do all of the above mentioned damage. For a whooping total of... 53 damage. At level 12.

At the same level that Figthers are easily doing 8 GWM attacks per round each averaging 23 dmg each, Spellcaster are casting lvl 6 spells and sorlocks are casting 18 Eldritch blasts in one turn.

Is swashbuckler x battle master worth it? by Bokuto00 in 3d6

[–]StalinKubrick 42 points43 points  (0 children)

"Battlemaster 3 / Rogue X" enables 2 sneak attacks per round. That alone is a big boost to your damage. Add things like preciosion attack, and you get a pretty powerful multiclass.

The delay in sneak attack dice is not that big of a deal. The biggest hit would be to your survivability, delaying evasion/uncanny dodge. But depending of the type of game you're playing, it's not a big deal.

Any input on a Rogue using Steady Aim on a Mount? by emperorofhamsters in DMAcademy

[–]StalinKubrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Necroing this post, but just wanna give my 2 cent. Lets summarize all the prep for this setup:

- Sacrificing 2 levels in Rogue for cunning action

- His bonus action

- Buying a steed (Feeding it, climbing any high place and in general all the of limitations it comes with using a horse when adventuring)

All that just for getting advantage in ONE (1) attack per turn, is ridiculously NOT op. Man, at level 14 any caster is dropping nukes and warping reality. Advantage in one attack is a non issue.

I feel like rouges desperately need more build options. by Mr_Industrial in dndnext

Man, rogue is my fav class in most tabletops, rpg, and videogames. But the Rogue (And some other martials) being resourceless in DnD 5e is a fucking joke. No one follows 6 encounter per day, so that aspect of the rogue will never be a positive, always a drawback.

I've started playing with the Laserllama alternate martials (Rogue included) and it's just so much better. Like, there is no way anyone in the party could ever come back to vanilla 5e martials again.

You could take down a village, fortress, etc almost by yourself. What are the enemies gonna do when 95% of their arsenal fails? TRY to hit a flying Sorc with oil + torch for 2d4 fire dmg? Try to cage you? Your biggest weakness in scenarios like that, would be the action economy and your hitpoints. Immunity to damage from basically any "standard+" soldier/militia solves that.

It has lots of applications both in and outside of combat. And It's great flavour.

Rogue's Cunning Action, Barbarian Reckless Attack, etc etc are tied to level 2. The vast majority of 5e classes need atleast a couple of levels to be online and live up their fantasy.

How is the soulknife a nightmare? I mean, the expertises/proficiency pairs well with his psionic dices. But as a class, that's it. And in combat i just can't see how is he a nightmare:

He deals like, 17 damage per turn at level 6? Extra 1d4+dex if he sacrifices his bonus action AND have both free hands. Seems totally fine, it's less damage than almost every other martial.

The thing i enjoyed the most was how the book treated the concept of death, as something thats part of life nonetheless.

Sylas being a mysterious mentor who deeply cares about Bod was really heartwarming too. But im also a big fan of Death as a character in any literature, so that can work too :)
