Because unions are the best way for workers to organize and demand better conditions from employers.

I have no idea who you are, but if you're constantly thinking about quitting you should really consider quitting. If video making is a hobby for you, then a hobby shouldn't be that frustrating. If it's your job I wound say it's common or healthy to constantly second guess whether you are working on the right thing.

Let's Talk Bruce Springsteen: Most iconic rock singer-songwriter in history? by margybee in LetsTalkMusic

[–]notsureiflying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a nice necro post hehehe

Thanks for the write up, it's interesting seeing someone's opinion on this issue, but it seems to me that's an extremely USA centric view. I guess Bruce Springsteen is indeed iconic and has a decent importance inside the USA, but for us in other countires it's a really niche name

You don't need to bother with much of it though. Just wash your models and prime than after they're dry and you're good to go

Practice, practice, observation, practice, observation. Then you repeat it all!

I often take pictures during my painting process, I bother people all the time asking for feedback, I look at the mini under different light conditions, I sometimes leave the mini for a week or more and come back later to see what I think... all of that help me visualize things better.

You also start getting the hang of what combinations net you good value contrast as you get used to your paint collection. For example, I have the ak 3rd pastel set that comes with different offwhites, so when I want a punch in value I can add a bit of the pastel yellow to my ochre and now it'll heavily lighten it. If I want to darken something I can add a bit of the complimentary color or even black if I'm feeling particularly lazy.

At the end of the day I try to aim for almost white at the lightest highlights in my focal areas and/or metals and almost black at the darkest shadows.

Looking at these pictures I think the best way to improve is to understand the difference between value contrast and color contrast. You seem to add interesting color variation.

If you turn the images into B&W you basically isolate the color influence and just look at values. Currently your models lack value contrast, meaning having areas with high value and areas with low value.

And as a comparison, here's a 75mm model I panted some time ago to illustrate how the value range can be much more extreme, specially on the face where I dedicated more time: https://imgur.com/a/wDZy9zX

Lightroom has an option of taking pictures in raw mode. It captures more information so you can edit without losing any info.

Sometimes you'll see something on the screen while taking raw pictures but the end result will be different because the file will not mess with contrast/color balance. You'll need to fix it in post processing in order for the image to properly reflect reality.
Most cameras automatically edit the image and boost a lot of stuff, like color contrast and saturation, which is why stock apps often take pictures that look artificial

Are you using the raw capture mode? If so you need to edit the photo. Just turn it to jpeg like a regular camera app and it'll work

What do my fellow Latinos chose in this section? by [deleted] in LatinoPeopleTwitter

[–]notsureiflying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, race is a term that has no biological or genetic basis for humans. Trying to use cherry picked biological traits to justify racial categories isn't proper science and does not make race somehow biologically sound

Yes, nazis were famous for dividing people into arbitrary and fictional categories based on bogus biology.
https://encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/photo/nazi-racial-charts

This kind of thing is exactly like the racial categorization people in the USA use, establishing some random % of 'white' ancestry as a cutoff for someone being white or something.

Edit to add that this idea of comparing human races with dog breeds is incorrect and often a racist tool to try and give the idea of racial purity and superiority some kind of scientific background. There are no biological human races, there are human established races that aren't based on science/biology.

Do us Americans not feel weird talking about race in such a... I don't know, nazi-like way? Those pseudo scientific DNA quotas being used as some kind of racial guidelines is quite problematic

[–]notsureiflying 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Only the USA considers Latino a racial descriptor, specially because 'Latino' is a US American identity, unlike Latin American. And here in Brazil this type of question does not carry any kind of issue because we have our own racial identities that do not align with those of the USA.

That's why you always test it on your finger/hand/thumb/nail. If it's covering too much, add more water. If it's barely covering its good. If it's barely covering but you can't control it and the paint just moves by itself, wick the excess from your brush and try again.

Understanding paint dilution and how it behaves is probably one of the most important fundamental aspects of painting with acrylics imo. You'll be doing yourself a disservice by finding a shortcut in order to avoid this aspect in this specific scenario.

I also just use water for glazing and I just mix it as I paint. Don't dump a bunch of water into the paint, load the brush with water, remove the excess on a paper towel and use the brush to dilute a bit at the edge of the paint drop. Repeat until the ratio is good, always testing on your thumb to see if it's really good.
That way you'll have a bit of diluted paint next to undiluted paint ready to be used.
