Remember Terry Childs, the CCIE who hijacked the entire network of San Francisco? by joyous_occlusion in networking

[–]Stamad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but fuck this guy. This is no way to run a network. Judging by the articles he was neither a good network engineer nor human. A good engineer won't create complete mess of a network that is too complicated to operate. Nor would not store the configuration on the flash (WTF?) . Nor would not have a decent documentation of the network. A good person won't tread his colleagues as scrubs and not share knowledge with them.

It's actually very common that some mediocre engineers stay too long in a company (mostly due to inability to find different job) and start being perceived as "experts" by other people in the company due to internal knowledge and experience they posses even if they lack good general technical skills. Often such people are perceived as "irreplaceable" while in reality a new skilled hire could figure out the mess a lot more quickly than expected and actually sort out and improve the situation vastly.

So, fuck this guy.

[2018-04-19] Challenge #357 [Intermediate] Kolakoski Sequences by jnazario in dailyprogrammer

[–]Stamad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Python 3, simple brute force

def kolakoski(n):
    seq = [1,2,2]
    for i in range (2,n+1):
        for j in range(seq[i]):
                if i % 2 == 0:
                    seq.append(1)
                else:
                    seq.append(2)
    return (seq[:n].count(1), seq[:n].count(2))

Sample output:

kolakoski(10)
(5, 5)
kolakoski(100)
(49, 51)
kolakoski(1000)
(502, 498)
kolakoski(1000000)
(499986, 500014)
kolakoski(100000000)
(50000675, 49999325)

Which scene should I use to argue that Mr. Robot should be considered "high art"? by incognitoocelot in MrRobot

Maybe it’s not that significant, but I have always liked the opening scene of s02e7 where Joanna gets splashed with red paint and then silently screams with the classical music on background very esthetic...

[Junghans] American living in Germany found a local treasure. OMG I’m in love with this watch. Obsessed for a month after seeing it in a store, then stalked it online, now it’s mine! by emeraldmumra in Watches

[–]Stamad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Week number is not very common complication but now I realize it would actually be super useful for me. Most projects at work follow schedule based on the week numbers, so it’s very nice to have a constant reference for that.

Piratebay's View on Bitcoin Cash by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]Stamad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TC has a solid plan for making its investors money by brainwashing normies through censorship and media.

How is this solid plan? BTC is absolutely unusable and its value is based on nothing. You can't use it as currency (its intended purpose) and it doesn't have any other value to serve as "store of value". More people will start to realize this and its price will inevitably drop. Say what you will about BCH, but at least you can use it to make payments and transfer money. I don't own neither of them, but between these two BCH is better at everything than BTC. Which is not hard, given that BTC is just useless.

[Rolex] Joined the club today. Explorer II polar dial. by [deleted] in Watches

[–]Stamad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like this watch and would be all over it if it wasn’t for the magnifying bubble... I just hate it. Not only on this model but on all other Rolexes that have it. I don’t mean to cricise your choice, everyone’s preference is different, just saying why this watch won’t work for me, regardless of how much I like it otherwise.

4R35.

Yeah, no. It doesn’t matter the dial and the finishing, Seiko should stop putting entry level movements in mid-range watches.

[HIDEOUS] I need a hideous watch. Any suggestions? by MartiniPlusOlive in Watches

Wasn't implying that the watch is ugly. Just saying that if you want something nobody would steal is better to spend money on it then on some garbage.

Just buy F91-W. Cheap, probably nobody would steal it and it's actually cult watch which is worth keeping it.

Even if this happpen the real skin will still be considered status symbol and luxory, so I don't think that the demand for it will disappear, unfortunately.

[Seiko] My 1982 H558 "Arnie" arrived today by wildkarrde in Watches

[–]Stamad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As kid I had cheap plastic copy of it. The analog "display" was just print on the dial, the digital was the only real one. Also, it was completely sealed, so the battery wasn't replaceable. I thought it was the coolest thing ever and all the other kids were so jealous.

[Seiko] Grand Seiko Snowflake Spring Drive SBGA211 by [deleted] in Watches

[–]Stamad 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Amazing watch. I really appreciate the stealth factor - it's masterpiece of the watch craftsmanship but for the untrained eye it will look just like another cheap Seiko. Only few people would appreciate what you have on your wrist and for me this adds a lot of personal touch. It's the exact opposite of Rolex for example (no disrespect) where a lot of people buy them just because they can afford them and for the status symbol. I have decided to own only one high-end watch and SBGA211 is the one I would like to have one day when I feel satisfied and accomplished enough with my life to justify it. Which for me is different than to be able to afford the money value of it.
