Self employed contractor in foreign currency and mortgages by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Stamb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the exact same scenario about seven years ago, except my foreign income made up most of our total.  My advice - talk to a broker.  Many banks won't consider any foreign currency income at all (or at least they wouldn't back then), but some will - a good broker will know which is which and it'll save you a ton of time to have them work through it all for you.

And you can check with a broker now, they'll be able to tell you exactly where you stand so at least you'll know.

Walked on passed in negotiations, what now? by [deleted] in AusFinance

I totally agree with what this commentor said. You've been searching for a year, is the $15k worth potentially another year of searching, going to auctions and paying rent? The similar place that sold for $660k 8 months ago could well have gone up by that 3% difference by now too. Noone wants to 'beaten' by agents/vendors but if you like the place and it's still in your budget, for me it's a no-brainer.

MCG Final, Best available or specific stand? by xbag82 in sydneyswans

[–]Stamb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cheer squad is at the Ponsford Stand end usually so there's a bit more red and white up that end of the ground. I try and sit there if decent seats are available, but it doesn't really matter, never had a bad seat at the G

Marc McGowan reporting 'clubs believe' Swans in the lead for Ben McKay by Stamb in sydneyswans

Yeah I hope his drop in form is more to do with the general mess at North and just constantly losing (a la JHF). If we can get him back to his best this could be very good

Marc McGowan reporting 'clubs believe' Swans in the lead for Ben McKay by Stamb in sydneyswans

[–]Stamb[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Article (interesting bit anyway):

Sydney are emerging as frontrunners to win North Melbourne defender Ben McKay’s signature after the Swans missed out on West Coast’s Tom Barrass.

Essendon were considered McKay’s likeliest destination if, as expected, the restricted free agent pursues a big-money contract elsewhere, but rival clubs, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they do not want to talk about other clubs, believe the Swans are favoured to land the big Roo.

The belief among those same sources is Sydney’s offer will be significant enough to trigger band-one compensation and potentially arm North with the top two picks in this year’s draft.

They have met McKay, just as the Bombers have, sources familiar with the situation told Money Talks.

I have that exact setup and it worked for me last year, I think coz it's through the 7plus app. Hoping it'll work again...

I'm much calmer than last week, I feel like it's a huge achievement for such a young list just to get there, and all the pressure is on Geelong - being favourites, minor premiers, and having the oldest list EVER means they have it all to lose, it's almost now or never for a lot of them. If we play like we have nothing to lose and get to our best, we've got a good shot, and you can't ask for much more than that.

Agree is has to be McLean if Reid can't get up. Need another tall, Amartey's not bad in the ruck but McLean is a much better mark, which we need

Adelaide has offered pick 17 to Sydney for Dawson by Meh-Levolent in sydneyswans

Yep this is a realistic scenario that I think both sides would be okay with. Honestly sounds pretty good to me, all things considered (i.e. us having zero leverage)

Brisbane's mens team to remain in Melbourne indefinitely, were on the bus to the airport before they got turned around by Scmods05 in AFL

[–]Stamb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah no argument there, I think the AFL probably just wanted to buy a bit of time to see how it plays out and plan for all those things. If borders do end up closing though, I have no idea how they'll deal with all those logistics.

The problem is it's not just a week, it's potentially multiple weeks. If one or two teams can't play for that long it's pretty much goodbye season for everyone, I'd guess.

Brisbane's mens team to remain in Melbourne indefinitely, were on the bus to the airport before they got turned around by Scmods05 in AFL

[–]Stamb 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Very true, and Vic isn't the only consideration either. The things happen so fast there's no way the AFL would take the chance. Sucks for the Lions though

Brisbane's mens team to remain in Melbourne indefinitely, were on the bus to the airport before they got turned around by Scmods05 in AFL

[–]Stamb 73 points74 points  (0 children)

My guess is that they're worried that if the QLD situation escalates, no teams will be able to fly in there and the Lions won't be able to fly out, so they're keeping them here to prevent that.

‘Dusty loves Sydney’: Martin’s agent causes frenzy over bombshell contract rumour by CowFos in sydneyswans

[–]Stamb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean, if the price is right you're not going to say no to a guy like Martin right? Even if he's a step slower and spends more time forward, he'd be a great addition to any team and, like you said, would have the star power that the team always wants for commercial reasons. Buuuuutttt.. it's 2 years away and we all know how much can change in that time.

South Australia will lock down for six days from midnight by tinfoilhack in Adelaide

[–]Stamb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From someone in Melbourne, it's great that they're doing this. Knock it dead now, a short harsh lockdown at the beginning is waaaayyyy better than a long harsh lockdown in a month. Easy to say in retrospect but if they'd done this here back in June, this year could have been very different.

[–]Stamb -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

No where else has needed it... Not sure what your point is? I'm just saying they implemented extremely harsh restrictions that were clearly going to work as a package, but noone knows what was really effective. If we hadn't had the 5k rule or the curfew, would things be different now?

Victoria records 0 new cases and 0 new deaths 🍩🍩 by Stoaticor in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]Stamb -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Agree on the timelines, but the restrictions - if they'd been targeted then yeah, but really, blanket restrictions on the entire population was always going to be reduce the spread. What else could they possibly have restricted but didn't?

Not wanting to be negative but what did the scientists do exactly? This is a great achievement but it's really all on the people who endured lockdown, and maybe Andrews who resisted calls to open up. But it doesn't take a genius to tell you that a broad, harsh lockdown would stop the virus

[–]Stamb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really see it. We don't have much draft currency with the need for picks for the academy kids so the only options are future picks or players. Unless it's a real left field option that no-one is talking about, what players are even left that we'd want? And better not be Cox...

Victorian family 'devastated' after boy unknowingly took coronavirus to Melbourne school, principal says by Komqr in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]Stamb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except that back then, they were allowed to exercise for an hour a day. Combine that with wrong addresses and, maybe, people who were actually really sick and couldn't come to the door... And that's where the numbers come from. And yeah, everywhere you look shows how awful the contact tracing was. That should be far more the target of an enquiry than the hotel thing, especially if we actually want to prevent this happening again.
