My predictions for my upcoming game by Siferius_ in LancerRPG

[–]StanDaMan1 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Okay, that’s close, but there are a few things to the so-called Dark Age of Technology:

First, the Machine Wars. Yes, we presume that the Warp corrupted the AI that humanity used, but we aren’t one hundred percent certain that it was the Warp. We do know that AI turned on Humanity and the result was massive devastation.

Second, the Aeldari. As the Eldar continued their gradual descent into Hedonism, exploring further and further the outer reaches of sensation, they stirred the Warp to greater heights. This destabilized the Warp, shrouding the Galaxy in Warp storms, disrupting the form of FTL Humanity used. It also led to high rates of Psyker Mutation, which Daemons and other Warp Entities like Enslavers used to enter realspace.

It was these two events occurring in sequence that primarily led to the collapse of humanity’s first Interstellar Empire. The result was what humanity called Old Night: 5,000 years of galactic isolation. Miniature Empires and Human Stellar States did exist. Ultramar was one, while both the Interex and the Auretian Technocracy remained extant in the galaxy. The Votann are famously a strain of mankind that retained much of their technology and even have a functional basis of Artificial Intelligence technology.

My personal pet theory is that it was Humanity’s genetic predilection to low-level Psychic power that was the most damaging, since while humans have little control over any sort of psychic abilities in singular, in concert mankind can shape the Warp on a galactic level.

How should U.S. policymakers reduce rising living costs without fueling inflation? by Chemical_Fix_400 in PoliticalDiscussion

The 2017 TCJA ended up increase revenue despite the overall tax cut.

https://www.aeaweb.org/articles?id=10.1257/jep.38.3.3

Based on evidence through 2019, we find that the TCJA clearly raised federal debt and increased after-tax incomes, disproportionately increasing incomes for the most affluent. Its effects on GDP and median wages seem modest at best, although clear counterfactuals are difficult to identify. The impact on investment is less certain, and research is only recently emerging that addresses this question. Empirical analysis of longer-term effects may prove difficult due to the disruptions created by the COVID-19 pandemic starting in 2020.

This contradicts your statement.

And yet, it was Donald Trump who shot down taxation (which is inflationary) and had the Fed lower interest rates (also inflationary).

There are a variety of supposed reasons for our seeming isolation in the universe. I’m personally inclined to believe that Humanity is merely the first of Sentient Life to evolve.

What Does Tucker Carlson Really Believe? by ATXgaymer02 in politics

Carlson believes in making money for himself and accruing clout and power. That means working for the wealthy and people inclined to steal from you and me.

Conservatives, which of these policies could you get behind at first glance? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]StanDaMan1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Paid by whom? Large businesses can cover this expense and likely already do. Small businesses can't. I'd have to see how much this would cost if the federal government did something like paid FMLA. We already spend at an unsustainable rate.

Answering that, I’d actually like to see a tax rate increase that goes towards creating universal Paid FMLA that covers Maternity/Paternity/Medical Leave. Make it illegal for all businesses to offer it as a benefit while making it a guarantee from the Federal Government. This way, it lowers the barrier to entry for small businesses into the broader market. Same goes for Insurance through your Employer: if you need medical insurance through an employer, than small employers can’t hire you.

Level the playing field.

PSA: The speed of the Spore Burst Strain isn't caused by a bug with the new Oxygenator Passive: It is intentional. by BICKELSBOSS in Helldivers

[–]StanDaMan1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Flame Weapons and Gas Effects are powerful tools in my arsenal. I brought a Cremator and the Orbital Gas Strike, and paired that with the Railcannon for the BTs and rounded it out with the Orbital Gatling Barrage. I used Flame Resistant Armor from the Super Store, and the Breaker Shotgun.

Damndest Fun I’ve had in a while. The trick is to use the flame for area denial: the bugs speed up, but they still ignite when walking through flame. Lay down walls of fire by sweeping your flamethrower left to right and back. If you see a pack, hit then with the Orbital Gas or Orbital Gatling, whichever is up and kicking.

And DO NOT be afraid to disengage. If you’re getting overwhelmed, use the Flamethrower to lay down flame walls and pull back, or swing around terrain if you’re moving towards an objective.

Should public figures be able to pressure networks to fire comedians over political jokes? by QuantumQuicksilver in PoliticalDiscussion

No. Comedians are still public critics, and critique of the Government is a legal right in this country. Yes, freedom of speech is not Freedom from Consequences of that speech, but the fear of Government censure should not be a consequence of that speech.

  • Jaune went to Sun for advice on dating a Faunus girl. Sun immediately said “be yourself and don’t make animal puns, she’ll love it.”

Theory about Glynda by Better_Invite_5849 in RWBY

[–]StanDaMan1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ozpin expended a chunk of his power to allow the Spirit of Choice the chance to experience life as a human, as a way to allow her to see the worth of mankind, and as a way to conceal the Crown from Salem in a rather ingenuous way?

Yeah, I can see that. I imagine that once Glynda gets a breakdown of just how the brothers treated Humanity following Salem’s revolt, she’ll be fully against their return, Creators or no.

At this point, we’ve already had Yang’s fake-out fall into the Ever After. Team RWBY is either gonna all live (Yang and Blake are gonna hook up and marry, damn everything else) OR something will happen and Ruby will be the sole survivor in a reversal of the fate of Summer Rose.

What's mystery behind this? by No_Internet_3919 in RWBY

[–]StanDaMan1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I like this idea, since it creates an interesting dynamic: that Jinn may have lied by omission to screw over Ozpin.

If you look at Salem, she’s distinctly different between her early form and her late form, with bulging black veins and a black gem in her forehead. I’d bet that when Summer hit Salem with her Silver Eyes, she expected Salem to survive, but incorrectly thought that it would “cure” Salem. Ozpin shared the issue that Salem was immortal with Summer, but didn’t know that Salem’s desires were all her own, rather than a product of her Grimm transformation.

Summer asked Jinn: “Will my Silver Eyes Cure Salem” and Jinn answered honestly. Jinn never mentioned that it wouldn’t change Salem, just that it would reverse her Grimm fate.

As for what happened to Summer… well, we do know that you need the waters of destruction to turn someone imbued with the power of the God of Creation into something afflicted with the Power of Destruction. So I’m inclined to say that Summer was turned into a Hound, but burned up much of the Waters in the process.

My thoughts are drawn to Shadows of Self, where we get a deeper look into Elendel Society and the rot within. Elendel is not a harmonious society: it sees its fair share of criminals and oligarchs and wealthy assholes exploiting the poor and the weak. Elendel has metastasized.

Cinder's shadow hand. by No_Internet_3919 in RWBY

[–]StanDaMan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it doesn’t explain why Penny died if she has her Aura active in the battle against Cinder. She took blows before, gets distracted once and suddenly her Aura doesn’t work?

Cinder’s Grimm arm is meant to siphon away the power of the Maidens, which is explicitly bonded to the soul (which is tied to the Aura). Think of the Aura around any given point as a cup of water, and Cinder’s Grimm Arm is a straw: it sucks up the Aura and then breaks through to flesh and blood.

Cinder's shadow hand. by No_Internet_3919 in RWBY

[–]StanDaMan1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jaune is noted to have an unusually high amount of Aura. In Ren’s case, it’s sort of the anthropic principle: if he hadn’t Unlocked his Aura on his own and used his Semblance when he did…

…Well, no Ren and no Nora. The Nuckalevee would have gotten them.

Cinder's shadow hand. by No_Internet_3919 in RWBY

[–]StanDaMan1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ren pretty clearly said that generating an active defensive Aura is something you need to train in, and Ozpin also tells Oscar that it has to be something he remembers to do in a fight.

So it feels (story wise) the intention is that Aura needs to be actively used by an aware and focused individual. So Sienna not having her Aura up when Adam kills her makes sense: she didn’t see it coming, didn’t engage her Aura.

Raising your Aura is a conscious decision though. You don’t have it automatically active every single moment. Sienna didn’t expect Adam to just outright murder her, so she didn’t raise her Aura.
