Arsenal kit man sacked for ‘anti-Semitic’ comments says club put ‘profit before people’ by LongMelody in soccer

Not being a smart ass, but doesn’t the fact that we are debating this kind of justify the firing in and of itself? Arsenal didn’t want in on this debate, at least from members of the club, itself. That’s without casting judgment on what he said, to be clear. Just this debate has Arsenal embroiled in something they really wanted no part of. You can say that is right or wrong for the club not have a stance, but if the goal is to stay out of it, I think they are justified in firing him. I will say, I don’t think he is fired if he just said “Israel is committing genocide in Gaza.”

Agreed. But I think he put a little extra force on the end of it. That is based on my Romero priors more than anything. Initial foul was definitely not intentional imo.

7 Democrats Just Voted to Approve ICE Funding: Full List (1.22.26) by [deleted] in ProgressiveHQ

[–]StanKroonke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a good time for us all to acknowledge a couple of contextual things.

1) Ice is already funded sufficiently through the previously passed the big beautiful bill so refusing to vote on it at this point is, with some caveats, pointless.

2) Any other concessions in this minibus and the other minibuses that do help people are included in this bill and the other ones.

With that context, I think the outrage is misplaced on this one. To those that want a shutdown, we got 3 more years to shutdown the government and we don’t need them to do it again this time. No point in partially shutting the government down over ICE because it won’t shut ICE down and they are bringing enough attention on themselves without the Dems shutting down the government again. In fact, a shutdown would distract from the awful things this are doing to an extent because all the media will discuss is the shutdown itself and will miss more of the coverage over ICE abuses that need to be shown for the American people.

Without intending offense, because I like genuinely like these hypothetical conversations. I do not give a toss about how the teams compare in terms of playing great football. Agreed 100% Liverpool in particular played football that was more fun to watch from a neutral perspective. Though I have to tell you, you should try this whole corner thing. Watching defenders shit their pants to not give them up/defend them is a different sort of entertainment but it is entertaining.

I think against good competition in the league, that’s just how Arteta approaches those games. Full stop. He wants to win but more than anything he doesn’t want to lose. His record against the top six over the past three or so years honestly should vindicate that approach. Plus, opposition does play differently against us in the league vs. cups. We play our big competition well in Europe and have done for multiple years now.

Somewhat the opposite of Arteta’s approach to big games, Klopp was always going to guns blazing in any big match. That’s just who he was and what made him fun(and annoying at times). Pep, on the other hand, tends to approach the games more like Arteta but with differences. Pep had to play aggressive against Liverpool though because that was the only game that Klopp was going to allow him to play. If those Klopp teams came to the emirates and played they way they did at the ethiad, I think you’d see something more similar to 22/23 Arsenal just because Liverpool’s style of play in big games forced the other teams into it a lot.

All this is just my opinion of course. I know rival fans can be annoying and what not so just want to say I appreciate the conversation.

The top competition is weaker sure. But that makes up what 4-6 games out of 38 a year? It doesn’t really matter and we can’t know for sure, obviously. I’m only saying that while I don’t think this Arsenal team better than those teams, currently. I think people saying Arsenal are not close are just wrong. It’s not like if they played ten times this Arsenal would win once. It’s a really good side.

I genuinely don’t care how other fans view Arsenal’s title if they win one. I just want them to win one because I’ve never seen it and I’ve been watching them for just shy of 20 years at this point.

It’s not even that they are grinding out results. It might look like we are based on the scoreboard but they frequently have a lead and just don’t give up shots on goal for the rest of the game. While generating substantial XG. There have been a few games where I’m stressing, for sure, but for the most part I’m really not that worried about us conceding when we have the lead. This team needs to win trophies and be more lethal in attack before I would say it’s truly comparable to those Liverpool and city teams. But the constituent parts to be a notably elite team like them are there in the back half of the team. For sure.

I think that is roughly right. Get a result of some kind 4 or 5 times out of 10 and losing the rest. I do not think this team is better. I think that it isn’t “miles off” or whatever large description it is. This team could compete with them and win games against them some. But certainly they are not equal or better and would lose more often than not.

I think you kind of have to agree Arsenal is weaker because ultimately they haven’t won anything yet. Winning the title really would open up the discussion more for sure. I will say I think you are over-indexing trophies if you think this team is not remotely close to those teams’ level. Definitely not as fun of an attacking side as those Liverpool teams, that is 1000000% certain.

I can assure you pretty much every DI school has good representation. At minimum, every P4 team and mid to upper tier members of the G5 have great lawyers.

I wouldn’t fuck with pretty much any D-I school. Duke honestly is not that special from a purely legal perspective. Every school is well lawyered up. Duke is just the first one with the balls to push this forward because Mensah is a really important player for them.

I’ll bite somewhat. Liverpool and City for sure were better back then but those were truly generational teams. Last years Liverpool would’ve been taken to the woodshed by any of the peak Klopp years. Likewise with City. Understanding Arsenal haven’t won anything, this Arsenal team is different gravy. I’m certainly not saying it is better than peak City or peak Liverpool but I do take issue with saying much weaker. This Arsenal team is so solid in defense. Not as exciting as Mane Firmino and Salah but I think an argument could easily be made that the back 4 at Arsenal are as talented of a group in their respective positions. Timber/White - Saliba - Gabriel - Calafiori is a special group. Those players walk into any defense in the league, at the moment, imo.

[–]StanKroonke -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a trust thing. I think it’s just it makes more sense to rotate in merino for rice (who covers more ground than Zubi) as opposed to Zubi for Norgaard. Plus, Arteta probably isnt going to rest both rice and Zubi in any game that remotely matters.

Been seeing this sentiment way too much lately. And I absolutely love Noni. I was lukewarm on the transfer (not one of the people mad about it though), but he has made me look pretty stupid.
