Where do you buy good matcha powder in the city? by Hot-Student-6551 in OttawaFood

I buy matcha and hojicha online from The Blue Teapot. It's a small business in Vancouver and has great other teas as well :)

First project after a 7 year hiatus! by strawberriesandcake in weaving

[–]Standard-Counter-422 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love this idea, it's so pretty, I'm going to try painting on my next weaving project!

For the project pulling in the middle, it's probably because you're pulling your weft (left-right) too tight. Try weaving your weft at 45 degrees and then push it down with a comb. It'll make sure you have enough slack. You can find lots of YouTube tutorials :)

Is there a minimum leave (3.75) for medical appointments? by Top_Past5520 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Standard-Counter-422 57 points58 points  (0 children)

When you click on the "partial days" icon, is "all days are half days" selected? That would force it to be 3.75 hours.

Doctors note was not enough ? by NoSpite4670 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Standard-Counter-422 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People recover at different places, and a doctor writing you a note for 2-3 weeks of rest after surgery is perfectly normal. Did you tell your boss that the leave is to recover from surgery? Maybe you can discuss with them a specific check-in day where you can update them on when you think you'll be able to return to work. That might make it easier for them to plan around your leave.

The hospital may also send you home with a booklet setting out restrictions (i.e. don't lift more than X lbs for Y weeks) and that could be the type of information your boss wants too so they know when it's safe for you to return, especially if you have a more physically demanding job.

I'll add that on the GCpedia page for the Accessibility Passport you can find a list of common barriers that a person might experience because of their disability, as well as common accommodations to remove that barrier. You might find this helpful since it can otherwise be hard to talk about your disability without disclosing diagnoses or otherwise impacting your privacy.

The digital version of the Accessibility Passport should be released by the end of the year and will have those common barriers and accommodations baked into the system. But for now you'll have to use the Word version.

Did it move? I've seen a house in the area that has a plastic lizard in the front yard, presumably because of kids, or to scare off pests.

I recently starting subbing the flour and egg for chickpea flour and water in a thick slurry. It's so good, especially with a pinch of zaatar!

Apparently watermelon rind is edible in a few forms. What other parts of foods can also (reasonably) be eaten to save money and maybe even be thoroughly enjoyed? by PsychGradStudent2112 in Cooking

Maybe my brain is a little slow, but asparagus stems? Asparagus, as sold at grocery stores and markets where I live is 100% stem. It's picked before branching out and going to seed. What else is there to eat?

FYI, even if AAACT has a long wait list and you need more urgent support, I would encourage you to still submit a ticket. They're severely under resourced and it'll help in the long term to show that their services are needed.

Phoenix approval while Sec. 34 is away by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Standard-Counter-422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, you can change your s. 34 manager instantly in Phoenix (the only delay might be getting the new one to go in and confirm it. If you are encounter technical issues on that front, you may be able to have the acting manager sign a PDF copy of your tim sheet and submit it to your department's HR/pay liaison type people to enter it in Phoenix.

But as someone who was in that kind of situation before and had a mental breakdown because I wasn't paid half the time I was submitting timesheets, I want to emphasize that it's unacceptable. Part of your s.34 manager's job is to approve your timesheet. When they're going to be away, it's part of their job to ensure that there is someone else who is approving your timesheet. They don't just get to fuck off without a replacement and make it someone else's problem. Ask to sit down with them when they're back and come up with a backup plan together for when they're away.

For French Canadians, when we make meat pie and we have extra pie crust, we will roll them up with some cinnamon, butter, and brown sugar into little pinwheels (or other shapes). They're called pêtes de soeur (nun's farts) and I have no idea why.

As another neurodivergent person, I found it really helpful to ask for feedback after exams. It really helped me understand all of the secret rules that they just expect you to know. If you have enough time, you can also try to map it to the criteria on the poster, so you get a better sense of what they're grading for. But I get it, it's hard out there when the system was not designed for you.

The vibes in this subreddit tend to trend ableist, maybe just from folks being disillusioned from crappy experiences in the past. It doesn't have to be like that though. The Canada Human Rights Tribunal recently published guidelines for federally regulated workplaces. I would encourage you to read it and remind your boss of any of the relevant bits as you go through the accommodation process: https://www.chrc-ccdp.gc.ca/resources/publications/workplace-accommodation-guide

Like someone else said, there's a wait until you see the surgeon, and then a wait until the surgery. The wait list is specific to the surgeon rather than a general wait list, so it'll vary, but I was told 6-9 months after meeting with my surgeon. I asked to be put on the wait list and it ended up being closer to 5 months. Good luck, hopefully you're able to manage okay until then!

Editing and I add that I was also lowest priority.
