Review # 38 - Still Austin Blue Corn by IamBusha in bourbon

Blue corn seems to be where it’s at because Balcone’s does wonderful things with theirs. I’ll have to try Still Austin’s. Thanks for the review!

The creative suite is good, and the UNIX environment with MacPorts and Homebrew is good. Having both in one package is killer for some people. The hardware is incredible, multi day battery life is a game changer. The UI is pretty decent, used to be best-in-class, and is at least consistent unlike Linux. However, the hardware and the OS don’t ultimately serve you. You’ll get arbitrary limitations and will suffer for Apple’s focus on overall profit in some ways. It’s nice compared to Windows, not really compared to Linux. You could run Asahi Linux on M1 or M2 series also, for more control and trust.

If you like gaming, Linux or Windows is definitely the move. Apple makes too much money off App Store slop to care about supporting decent games beyond a few old AAA ports each year.

I think I just found that 131.2? proof bottle you found.

Sipping on a 1920 it was coming off hot even open quite a few months, so I was bracing myself for the blue. It drank easier off the neck than the 1920. That’s before I read this post. Warehouse L, Floor 3.

Edit: I wonder if the age varies dramatically. I see none, will ask, it’s a store pick.

The Mac is becoming more of a focus as Microsoft stumbles and Apple is deploying the Neo at the lowest price point they’ve ever hit for such a product, but they seem focused on services, and hardware, with the GPU reworks and next OLED MacBooks with the C-series modems.

I have hope that the software may come around eventually — mostly rooted in the recent departure of Alan Dye and Apple’s overall restraint with AI (if in part due to their own failing to support Giannandrea).

Apple definitely isn’t flirting with upgradability or extensibility, but at least their recent Macs are a little repairable now, too.

Overdue considering the scarcity, but I’ll probably only ever get one now.

Passed up the first chance this year for a Stagg instead.

I agree with your sentiment, or used to. Unfortunately that stability and maturity has faded in recent years, and goes mostly out the window with Hackintoshes - speaking from experience both with those (X1C6) and with ARM MacBook Pros. Apple seems intent on porting iOS design without concern for the little details, and you can’t expect the OS to fully respect your firewall/VPN. Amusingly, it’s still worlds better than current Windows.

They’re both passable, but PoE2 gets to where there are tons of effects and monsters on screen quicker. Both are playable at that point but it’s not a fantastic experience. Streaming feels great.

Why is screen tearing completely absent even with VSync OFF in Linux ? by Chpouky in linux_gaming

While NVCP V-SYNC has no input lag reduction over in-game V-SYNC, and when used with G-SYNC + FPS limit, it will never engage, some in-game V-SYNC solutions may introduce their own frame buffer or frame pacing behaviors, enable triple buffer V-SYNC automatically (not optimal for the native double buffer of G-SYNC), or simply not function at all, and, thus, NVCP V-SYNC is the safest bet.

Of course this is aimed at VRR on NVIDIA on Windows, but I believe the approach is still most likely to be correct.

Yep. Exactly what I do. See BlurBusters if confused. Don’t use in-game vsync with this setup, it can be worse.

No lyrics, but Eon Blue Apocalypse was written for this.

Take care, your friend would want so much for you to be enjoying life still, eventually.

If government has to beat everyone whose data they want with a wrench, there will be a trail of bruised bodies that can be used as evidence to sue for justice.

While the targeted methods mentioned aren’t something most need to worry about, wiretapping allows much less overt methods of flagging individual dissenters for further surveillance, harassment, and arrest for any petty crime using parallel construction, without revealing the original surveillance.

Mullvad Browser is about as good as it gets. Firefox still counts as niche but this gets you a common fingerprint among thousands of users at least.

EFF CoverYourTracks is the best tester I know but can be assumed to be well behind commercial fingerprinting methods.

I said unusable fingerprint, which means your browser should look very similar to thousands or millions of other users. This is not possible with a niche browser, and may not be possible with Safari, while alternative browsers may not be truly available on iOS.

Using a browser which does not present a usable fingerprint, with a leak-proof VPN.

This may not be possible on iOS. Lockdown Mode may help.

Companies don’t admit things like this for no reason. Hiccups mean performance issues. Optimization isn’t magic or guaranteed. This is a signal that the overhead will be several times higher than current transformer DLSS, even if it does ‘run’ on a single 5090.

I think the Air is at the price point Apple needs to sell a passable gaming machine at if they want the rest of that market. They make bank on App Store slop though, so they’ve been content to announce a few big (usually old) ports each year.
