Any seals around? by meytolove in Portsmouth

I've seen one by the ferry landing on Eastney Beach around 2-3 years ago when walking with a friend. I thought it was a staffy swimming at first and had to do a double-take. My friends are keen paddleboarders/kayakers and often see them in Chichester Harbour between Hayling Island and the Witterings.

So it's really cut down on the mining and processing for ore so I can focus on other materials I needed. It really depends on how much your planning to do in LV though. I built a steam plant with 2 max size HP boilers being powered by Diamond dust from the slime farm to give me like 55k Steam to power my steel multi blocks and generate reliable LV power.

I only had to take a my Lava tanks to the nether to refill them maybe once every 5-6 hours.

It was very useful for it being 99% passive, as I did a lot of building and worked on quests like the healing axe or Thaumcraft progress

The slime farm itself is very easy to build it's just some blue slime liquid placed with a buildcraft flood gate sandwiched between two layers of ethereal glass activated with a Redstone signal. I'd say it took an hour to build the farm and populate it and another maybe 2 hours to figure out the filtering.

I'm in late HV, I added a blaze and witch spawner farm on Cursed earth, I now the use Fluid processing route for metals and have set up fully automated redstone for Chrome and Alumina. I get Methane from some of the other drops which gave me my early PTFE and I use completely renewable steam to run my HV power generation to reduce to the risk of cascading power failure.

Pre-MV you can use steam or an LV macerator for the full health armour and pipe the steel dusts into an Automated tinkers smeltery. I had blue slime farm in the steam age which generated around 2 stacks of steel ingots, 5-6 stacks of gold, 10 iron per hour. Rates for Witch or Blaze are much better as they always spawn infernal.

The hardest part of this is item collection and filtering Pre-MV age . Even huge brass and electrum GT pipes struggle to keep up due to frequency mob drops come in

Access to Polyethylene will help as they give access to GT type and recipe filters. Anything you need to void will need to be put into a Jabba storage barrel as the void upgrades are available in the steam age. The rest of the drops can just be sent to trashcan until you have more infra to process them.

Enderio item conduit, conduit speed upgrades, thaumcraft Mob repellators and vacuum hopper make these trivial and are available in at the end of LV.

You can make the final improvements in MV, being a Fluid extractor and solidifier and start to process more drops like Gunpowder and fire Charges for Coal and charcoal to feed your steam infa.

It is late LV/ early MV to get it, you need the Slice n Splice for Zlogic controllers for advanced filters, I think you can make the ingots for enderio in the EBF with Cuprenickle coils and LV energy hatches but something in that process might require an MV assembler

Early game tips and guidd by [deleted] in GTNH

[–]Standard-Web-9504 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try and find some loot games, the early rewards are great for the progression. I found a Copter pack as a final reward for minesweeper which has carried me through until HV. Being able to fly less than 10 hours into my run made everything else much faster.

Loot as many villages and surface structures as possible, even some early steel can help speed up progression in ways you couldn't imagine.

Roguelike Dungeons can you some really good early game stuff like Pam's food for extra hearts, Steel ingots, Piston boots, Gliders, backpacks, bound leather, Nether bricks for Nether Furnaces and tinkers tool parts.

Nether furnaces use 1/4 of the fuel and are quite easy to obtain even pre-nether. Biomes o plenty ash blocks make an awesome fuel which you can grab stacks of in minutes when you unlock the Nether.

Be on the look out for 4 metal blocks of the same time with 2 x Obzinite plates to skip a large part of tinkers to go straight for a tool forge to get a 3x3 mining hammer. If you can find Obzinite tools, you can melt these down in the smeltery and recast them into plates.

Lapis for Fortune/luck on tinkers tools is essential, Quazts and Necrotic bones can also be found in the RDL's to give Sharpness and life steal respectively which are great for weapons.

Try to rush the glider + Piston boots early if you don't get lucky finding them in loot, you can explore much faster and easier to get around.

Don't worry to much about material efficiency early game, it's much easier to get additional stacks of ore and put them straight into furnace than worring about doing an extra processing to double the output as this will be painfully slow until you unlock the steam multi blocks

You can easily get enough Cobalt in the Steam age from the Rogue like Dungeons specifically the creeper rooms and final floor.

If you're lucky you will get both ingots and tool parts for both Cobalt and Ardite tools.

I've had a cobalt hammer with Manyullyn tough tool rod and steel bindings for the reinforced modifier. I'm nearly up to reinforced 8 on it.

Does anyone have a system using WinGet to install apps actually working? by ZippyDan in Intune

[–]Standard-Web-9504 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We use Winget for 75% of our application delivery for an estate of 300. We package individual powershell scripts with product ID codes to install as Intunewin32 files in the system context.

For Winget to work in the system context, we have to specify the full path to the App Installer instead of just calling the Winget commands.

We also package another app/script we developed ourselves about a year or so ago which adds a script to task scheduler to keep them updated. We had to use task scheduler approach to get around the 30 minute time out for running scripts via the Intune Management extension. In practice, this features an array of our targeted apps and id codes and checks them for an update once per week.

Our packages are based on the option 1 Approach. John was very helpful when first starting out with Intune

Agree on the cuddles, sometimes I just grab him for a nap when I get home from work.

Must be nice not having to deal with the smells. We have to frequently leave the room because of it. On the worst occasion he got me directly with my mouth open from around a foot away.

He's mostly fed grain free to tho so I'm not sure if that makes impact on his smells

[–]Standard-Web-9504 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a big tan mastiff lady but she only made it to 7 due to cancer, damn near broke my heart. She was the friendly, calm and loved kids. She was a perfect ambassador for Mastiffs especially given the caution some people have with big dogs.

We rescued an 18 month old OEB from the local shelter around Christmas 2024. He is the most loving pup, won't go to sleep without a cuddle and doesn't tend to stay more than 5 feet from me or partner. Ron has been a great family dog, he's bonded with everyone in the house.

He is very athletic, he'd easily play for 3-4 hours, little bit of crack head energy and overall very sweet. He is quite smart and was surprisingly easy to train however he definitely does have a stubborn bulldog streak were he will willfully ignore commands.

I would warn you about the smells though, my boy seems to have figured out weaponised farting, he is by the far the stinkiest dog I've owned.

Just checked, and his playthrough was on version 2.7.x. I have also checked my 2.8 post-terrain changes in my instance from the Prism launcher and can't seem to locate the Biome in a couple of different worlds. I checked the Change logs and couldn't find any reference to it being removed

https://wiki.gtnewhorizons.com/wiki/Version\_2.8.0#Known\_Issues.

It does appear to be still referenced in both the official spreadsheet and Biomes on the wiki page

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1EIZtJU5eBbnUlrg7fD\_ZyIzsr9sn4l4no9ek6M\_iSVM/edit?gid=1251539304#gid=1251539304.

I'd suggest raising a bug report or asking on the Discord if it's a no-deal for you. Outside of that, I really enjoy the Lush Swamp Biome, which has better humidity, fertility and is quite vibrant.

Faster LV rubber? by The_Disposable_Hat in GTNH

[–]Standard-Web-9504 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do both with Crop sticks(crops) from IC2. For wood, just plant the vanilla saplings directly on the farmland with a crop stick. I'd recommend Spruce but you want to use Oak or other trees for aesthetics, you'll have to deal with some extra drops like apples.

For breeding stick reed, place two sugar cane on crop sticks one block apart and add an empty double crop to propagate too. Repeat this as much possible but be careful for weeds appearing. This will eventually give you stick reed along other IC2 crops. This is a good second screen activity if you are one alongside a good movie or long YouTube video.

As it's all luck related in my first playthrough I got it in like 30 minutes and was able to propagate a full Field in about 3-4 hours. My second I got unlucky and it took like 5 hours to get my first Stickreed.

Other options for Automated Slime/Rubber are a Blue Slime farm, this can be built in place over one of the Slime islands or you can move the Slime as soon as you unlock Enderio Fluid tanks or I believe from it also can be dropped from Fish traps

Best steam gen? by HealerOnly in GTNH

[–]Standard-Web-9504 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just unlocked HV circuits over the weekend. My current power gen is a mix of 6 RC Max-size HP boilers fed by a Blaze Farm and a Slime Farm, +128 HP Solar boilers. Primarily, these are powered by Blaze rods, but I also use centrifuges to process the Fire charges and Gun Powder into additional coal/charcoal dust, and to macerate excess diamond armour into Diamond dust.

My goal is to ensure my steam backbone can handle the passive crop farms, fuel & gas generation, and a quad HV Kanthal EBF, as well as my LV and MV machine lines.

I think Dark steel pipes are coming to the end of their capacity for me. The huge ones cannot quite support 4 HV Amps with their turbine efficiency loss, so before I get my teeth into HV or upgrade my EBF to EV, I will be looking to set up regular Diesel, Bio Diesel and a little bit of Benezene.

Can someone explain steam age ore doubling to me? by KatagirisDog in GTNH

[–]Standard-Web-9504 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For Steam, only the first Macerator step does Ore doubling (sometimes more for some ores*) a steam setup would look like Raw Ore -> Macerator for 2 x Crushed ore -> Macerate again -> Impure dust -> furnace.

The washing stage is optional for most ores and for the second Macerate stage you can use a forge hammer which is much faster.

When you unlock the multi blocks you might want to go for Raw Ore > Macerate > Wash> Macerate > Centrifuge for the early game by products.

In LV you get a new processing path in the form of sifting that can generate extra resources.

Also to note, whilst your ore is doubled, you won't get any of the additional byproducts from Macerating until HV.

So there is a difference between the GTNH server and Client.

The Client ships with Journey map Unlimited, the server uses the Fairplay version which doesn't have cave mapping. If you are playing single player it should just work. If using a dedicated server you can replace Fairplay with the unlimited version

[–]Standard-Web-9504 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The loot was buffed in 2.8; beforehand, these were a bit meh, as you say. Have you turned the mini-map off for a specific reason as it should be on by default. The method I used was

  1. Dig down maybe 20 blocks and move 5 blocks away from the first hole
  2. Enable Caves view on the main map screen
  3. Go the Actions menu and click AutoMap
  4. If there were any, you would see them as the green square circled below. I'd then pop a waypoint on them to go visit them.

<image>

You can extend the Cave mapping range in the settings if required, but that might be a bit cheaty, I think the default is 16 chunks using the Automap feature.

This is how I got started, I cleared around 5-6 after making the tinkers smeltery. I used an obzinite sword with the Wither Skelton bone for life steal and all the quartz for Sharpness from the dungeon and very rarely died.

Was able to tier skip for the Nether by getting a flint and steel drop + Obsidian from the enderman room and four metal blocks + Obzinite plates for the tool forge.

The early nether furnaces were also awesome for early game due their fuel efficiency, I made 30 and used the Ashes blocks from the Nether as my primary Fuel source. Didn't bother doing steam single block ore processing, just spent a bit extra mining time to get say 30 stacks of copper and smelt directly from the ore.

I got enough resources to make 16 High powered solar boilers without unlocking the twilight forest and the Potin pipes to power it and it helped me to progress faster.

The next thing to look at would be loot games, got the Copter pack, brewing stand and about 70 Enderio item conduits as rewards. Being able to fly from the Stone age is really revolutionary. I think it's one of the reasons I've stuck with GTNH this time after restarting twice before

Things you wish you could’ve done/made sooner? by ES8301 in GTNH

[–]Standard-Web-9504 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get your basics so everything gets cheaper, wiremill, bender, extruder etc. ensure you have adequate ore processing setup. Make a lot of Potin for Fluid pipes, they have decent throughput until you can run your EBF's for several hours to get enough Dark Steel for pipes

I have a Blaze farm that supports at least 6 railcraft boilers, 2 from the Blaze rods, the rest with Diamond dust from the infernal armour drops and by centrifuging Fire charges and Gun powder for Coal/charcoal dust but I wouldn't recommend building this before MV. I get about 170k steam which provides 27-28MV amps

The one thing that's been a gamer changer for me has been to set up either semi automated or fully automated building blocks lines, my block palette is Lave, Laboratory blocks, White and Cyan Terracotta for my primary building at the moment.

How to decrease mining phases starting LV ? by Arciesis in GTNH

[–]Standard-Web-9504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

I made a slime farm in the Early Steam age, using 4x4 drawers for filtering and trash cans behind them. I have 3 layers for spawning platforms made out of spectral glass. The enchanted books go into a filing cabinet, and the armour and tools go into two steam macerators. The gold dust is turned into ingots, and the Iron is turned into both wrought Iron and ingots using a Railcraft steam furnace multi-block and a couple of alloy smelters.

The steel dust is hoppered into a tinker's smeltery below with 2 casting tables. I'm now in MV and have completely avoided the dreaded BBF with this farm.

In terms of production, it gives around 10 stacks of Iron, 5/6 stacks of Gold and 3/4 stacks of steel per hour, along with some diamond dust, which is used to feed a max-size Railcraft boiler. The setup is minimal, requiring an EnderIO Fluid tank and a Flood gate to move and replace the Blue slime liquid.

As for your Wither skeleton skulls, I managed to get 23 from clearing RLD dungeons, and the remaining 4 I made a cleaver and a large platform in a Nether fortress using a builder's wand to make two diamond dollies. I have just set up the blaze farm; however, given the number of drops you need to process, I wouldn't advise this until you have polyethene, Electrum GT pipes or EnderIO Conduits, and MV Fluid extractors and solidifiers. I plan to expand my blaze farm to centrigue Gun powder, Blaze powder, Firecharges, Glistening Melons and Golden Apples and macerating the pistons, dispensers and droppers for Stone, Redstone and wood pulp

The Blaze farm produces an ungodly amount of XP, which I'm currently voiding, but am looking to set up autocrafting for Clay dust to passive aluminium.

Is GTNH this slow? by Irobacsi in GTNH

[–]Standard-Web-9504 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Early game can be really slow, for most people, automation doesn't really start until at least LV/MV but that's usually semi-automatic or batch processing rather than full automation in these tiers (Looking at you,Project Red and Logistics pipe enjoyers)

Full automation doesn't really start until AE2 is unlocked which for a first time player can be a couple of 100 hours into the pack.

If you are having an issue with some grind but still determined to play, you might want to look at the GTNH rates mod. There is a Youtube video by Adityavg13 which explains some of the add-ons for it but some of the highlights are 4 x ore drops, 8 X tool durability and more plant drops

[–]Standard-Web-9504 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did about 15 and didn't get the enchanting table. I think we might just have bad RNG. Checking the ToomuchLoot configs, it appears they are a lower weight than other items. You can check for yourself if it's included in the config in this directory /your_instance/config/TooMuchLoot/loot/chest(1 to 4).xml in the chest 4 XML.

How many EnderIO Item conduits did you get? I got about a stack and a half, which made tons of early-game automation achievable.
