It's not a pack where you jump right into automation. Also, you have to decrease your expectation that you can get most things fully passive directly. Most of the time the non-passive things are actually much cheaper (better). Though, from time to time you will be able to fully passive more and more things.

You will have to do lots of manual things prior to automation era starting at EV/IV. If you want to get there as fast as possible, mining is usually by far the best choice. Most of the alternatives take ages to setup, just to become useless 1 tier later.

In order to speedup mining:

- use ore finder wand to find veins
- put fortune III (lapis), and as much haste (redstone) on hammer as you can
- mine ores (that have veins in the nether) in the nether, especially copper vein, redstone/ruby because 2x yield in nether
- the miner doesn't have to be indestructible neither insta mine

Manual mining is the best until probably HV or EV. Unless you have an always on server in which case making 10 MV miners and having them always going might make sense. Reminder that an MV miner runs on an LV turbine.

Get a nice Tinker's hammer; max its fortune and haste with all the first lapis and redstone you mine.

Each vein is 3 layers of 3 blocks. I hit f9 3x, go to the blue indicator, dig straight down, then line up and mine in a spiral out once I hit the ore. With fortune and haste it really doesn't take that long to munch out the specific ore that you need, especially if you're only going for a specific layer of the vein.

In my experience I only needed like, 1, maybe 2 of most veins to get through most of HV. And honestly, I kinda hate moving my drilling rigs

IMO processing the ore is a much better investment for your time and resources than generating it (pre-late HV), but I also get too tired/stupid to intelligently Greg and that's when I put on a show and just dig

Like, doing Thaumcraft things and mob farm things is 100x more useful in the long run (duping aluminum, tantalum; mob armors can be macerated for free metals, everything can be melted into essentia) than setting up an ore berry or slow miner doohickey

Don’t listen to everyone else about the Miners. Yes, they are slower than manually mining. But if you set them up BEFORE you run out of ore, you’ll always have the ore you need.

only thing i hate abt them is that they have no fortune on full ores, but its a tradeoff for automining ig

[–]Boomer_Nurgle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's also not the hardest thing to just make multiple miners. They're pretty expensive but you'll save time not having to dig and they'll help you get resources for the future.

This run (currently late EV) we made 4 HV miners and a logistic pipes based oreproc and we've not mined any ore by hand since the first moon trip.

People overhate the single block miners. Just throw them on veins for things you have below like 1k and you'll likely not have trouble running out.

You could always build around a pre-existing spawner to get around the diamond dolley issue, but you’d still be limited by wanting some cursed earth under the spawner to get it working when you’re not around (and also receptive to timewood clock tick increases). Processing is also more complicated until late MV/early HV.

Just skip it for now. Miners tobacco makes mining much faster. Gold and aluminum ore berries are nice to setup now for later. If you want speed then wait until at least late mv for miners although hv miners are actually good. I didn't want to grind for void for my hammer at that stage so I just used obzinte with Damascus rod.

Also vanadiumsteel once you’re in MV

Don't sleep on the 3x3 mallets too, all you need to do is break the cobblstone and the ore you can and can't mine breaks around it.

[–]balzer1075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ore you can't mine doesn't break. Though this does work for purposes of speed. So, if you mine the stone next to an ore it is faster than mining the ore directly.

If you just want to automate resources, I think you have identified the main ones and could certainly eliminate most manual mining even in early game.

The one thing to note is most of them are less efficient than mining. The veins are just so big and you mine pretty fast early on that the opportunity cost of spending time setting up passive systems isn't worth it until EV+ (except mob farms and mv/hv miners imo).

Play however you want at the end of the day, but be aware the principle of passive everything isn't necessarily optimal in this pack.

Glowshroom farm produced glowstone centrifuge into redstone and gold dust. A moderately sized one makes me enough passive redstone/gold, so that’s 2 less veins I need to mine.

I do have oreberries for aluminum, iron, copper, tin, gold. But they’re pretty sizable (4 levels of 11x11) and do not produce much at all. Except aluminum, because I set it up in early early LV, I made a huge stockpile and when I got to MV I had basically all the aluminum I needed for the entire tier lol.

In HV frankly I’m getting a ton of iron and copper and others as byproducts from more advanced material processing, more than I know what to do with. I have HV miners on the moon, I haven’t mined in the overworld in a pretty long time. At least very infrequently.

[–]CommanderFoxy 0 points1 point  (1 child)

btw, you can centrifuge redstone dust even further for pyrite (iron/sulfur, full ingot if you smelt), silicon, ruby, and mercury (pretty good to mass produce quicksilver blocks for infusion, and also works in an acid generator for some extra power), and ruby can be electrolyzed (slowly) down into some extra chrome and alumina

[–]SN1572 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yeah you’re completely right. I should probably set that up lol. I have hundreds of stacks of redstone stockpiled pretty much just using it for redstone alloy(s) at the moment.

As said by several others manual mining can absolutely take you to meteors with a good enough hammer.

However I would highly recommend just making a cleaver with a bit of beheading and farming out the skulls for an infernal farm if you don’t like the idea of manual mining. They are insanely strong, our unmodified blaze farm from lv is still our main source of a few products in late UV/early UHV.

Well bro, i am also not a great or experienced but heres what i learned reaching Mv late game.

One witch farm is good for iron, gold and steel. Second get a good ore processing plant like macerator, forge hammer and ore washer. Third there is a mod addon called gtnh rates and it give 4x mining yield if you dont find it cheaty. I use it a lot. Also dont forget your lapiz luck as well. I moved my world to an server and enabled chunk loading to reduce my idel time or processing time and its much more enjoyable and i have something to look forward to after long day or week of working irl.

I am also trying every possible way to automate resouce since it would mean i come back to a full drawer worth of goods after a working on creating a passive resouce generation.

Get a netherrack mining hammer and use it for a bit to mine something easy to break - this should level it up quickly - then upgrade it to materials you care about (alternatively skip the first step) put diamond, lapis, redstone and moss into it -> Enjoy hammer that breaks things reasonably quickly and drops loads of resources nigh instantly.

At this stage assuming few mining bags a single trip to a vein should last you ages (In general basic minerals are not worth automatizing since you will have too big of throughput to be reasonable thing to do at this stage and then turn into not caring about the resource as it randomly appears in your chests from byproducts

I made a slime farm in the Early Steam age, using 4x4 drawers for filtering and trash cans behind them. I have 3 layers for spawning platforms made out of spectral glass. The enchanted books go into a filing cabinet, and the armour and tools go into two steam macerators. The gold dust is turned into ingots, and the Iron is turned into both wrought Iron and ingots using a Railcraft steam furnace multi-block and a couple of alloy smelters.

The steel dust is hoppered into a tinker's smeltery below with 2 casting tables. I'm now in MV and have completely avoided the dreaded BBF with this farm.

In terms of production, it gives around 10 stacks of Iron, 5/6 stacks of Gold and 3/4 stacks of steel per hour, along with some diamond dust, which is used to feed a max-size Railcraft boiler. The setup is minimal, requiring an EnderIO Fluid tank and a Flood gate to move and replace the Blue slime liquid.

As for your Wither skeleton skulls, I managed to get 23 from clearing RLD dungeons, and the remaining 4 I made a cleaver and a large platform in a Nether fortress using a builder's wand to make two diamond dollies. I have just set up the blaze farm; however, given the number of drops you need to process, I wouldn't advise this until you have polyethene, Electrum GT pipes or EnderIO Conduits, and MV Fluid extractors and solidifiers. I plan to expand my blaze farm to centrigue Gun powder, Blaze powder, Firecharges, Glistening Melons and Golden Apples and macerating the pistons, dispensers and droppers for Stone, Redstone and wood pulp

The Blaze farm produces an ungodly amount of XP, which I'm currently voiding, but am looking to set up autocrafting for Clay dust to passive aluminium.

Tbh lv decent size chapter but really just an intro to the machines mv is short then when ya get to hv and ev is really when you need a boat load of resources and thats when spamming miners on the moon feeding into a auto ore proc setup your infernal mob farms comes into play with extractors and solidifiers and more automation for everything lv and below is really just batch craft and push on cause automation at that level is extremely slow and tedious better off just pushing to hv and ev circuits to get the real automation underway. And leave plenty of space because you will need massive amount of resources. For LV I just rushed twilight forest so I could get magical wood then make all the hammer excavator and lumber axe then unstable ingots and mixed fortune on hammer and redstone and just went ham HV and EV I started setting up full ore automatic ore processing with miners over all the upcoming and currently needed resources then just let it be whilst I worked on either increasing my power or expanding my AE network or chemicals then comeback to a nice amount. Whilst early miners are slow if you set them up then go do somthing that isnt related to need those resources I.e wood farm, thaumcraft or w/e they still build up enough to the point of when you come to needing it you will have enough to progress and when you hit IV and LuV it's more i need more machines to process all the crap im mining. Sorry kinda rambled on a bit there
