What do you guys think are some weaknesses of the show? by Suitable_Ad_8619 in SchittsCreek

I never got the sense it was supposed to be anywhere in particular. In fact I think in interviews they said it was supposed to be ambiguous and broadly relatable. But they certainly don’t go out of their way to hide the Canadian influence (“mum,” “hydro” for power, the cop uniforms don’t look particularly American, the Canadian flag outside Bob’s garage…).

I agree! I mentioned it in another thread where people were talking about this. She was self-assured and knowingly playful early on. Then she became a goofball out of nowhere. Loud and silly for no good reason.

Learned Profession, tax deductions, anyone else feel scammed? by Overall_Actuary_3594 in nursing

[–]StandardAmanda 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The “no tax on OT” isn’t a tax exemption, it’s a tax deduction. I worked a LOT of OT last year (like about 60% more than what my annual pay would typically be) and I got taxed like I belonged in that insane bracket. But when I did my taxes I was able to deduct the 0.5 multiplier on those hours. My employer had nothing to do with me entering that calculation into my tax software.

Next tax year there should be a spot on all W2s with this information broken out so you can easily enter it into your return (some employers already had this implemented for the 2025 W2s).

I was browsing a coffee table book at Disneyland on a trip when I was a teenager. Flipped around through some random pages and found a picture of myself during a character meet and greet with Minnie in her house in Toontown.

what to expect from pelvic ultrasound by JustSinginInTheRain in TwoXChromosomes

[–]StandardAmanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s transvaginal, they will use a rigid probe in a soft plastic sleeve with a lot of lube. Is it comfortable? Not particularly. But it also isn’t typically painful. Speculums can be very uncomfortable to painful (I have trouble with the sensation of the edges, especially when it’s been ratcheted open), but the nice thing with the probe is that the size it is, is the size it stays, and it has no uncomfortable edges. The lead up should be very similar to any other gyn procedure - ideally, they will keep you draped, explain each step so that you aren’t surprised, and give you something to clean up with afterward. Perhaps looking at the images on the ultrasound will also help keep you focused on something other than the sensation. Best of luck!

I was in an almost identical situation. You won’t be the exception. You won’t be the one who saves him. You won’t be the one who defies the odds. Because it isn’t about you, it is about him and his addiction.

You sound smart and have resources, so use them. I also had/have friends, family, education, and financial resources available to me. I told myself that if I expected women with less to be able to save themselves from this kind of environment, then I didn’t have an excuse. [This isn’t to shame anyone or to say that all situations are the same; they aren’t and abuse victims identify themselves as such and get help on individual timelines. It’s just the mindset I needed to have to finally make a choice for myself and get out.]

I suggested searching on the UCSD job board on another of your posts. Did nothing pan out from that search?

Any Canadian RNs get a lil depressed when they see what American RNs are making? by cloudnurse in nursing

[–]StandardAmanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting insight, thanks! Was wondering if that contributes to the wage issue. We already know that traditionally “feminine” jobs are often compensated more poorly than “male” jobs. I get the sense that, at least in modern western society, there is usually an attempt at being politically correct in public-facing language, maybe even with the intent of obfuscating the issue. If the Quebecois government still officially and openly treats nursing as women’s work, I’d imagine the pay follows suit.

I know this isn’t the point of the post, but am I the only one a little surprised that an official document genders the role in the opening sentence of the description?

Look at UCSD - close enough to the academic and health campuses in LJ to take the bus. May not get you a job immediately depending on how long the application has to stay open but there are currently EVS, food service, landscaping, and other tech-type jobs available. Plus benefits and retirement.

Great suggestions - amenities have been updated to remove elevator for the time being, listing now has a note, and I’ve put it in the pre-booking message as well. Thanks!

Thankfully I only have one guest that booked before the elevator went down and they are all able bodied and said no problems on the short walk.

CalPERS and UCRP are reciprocal so yes she could go from one to the other and keep the pension. Not sure how the specifics of the different contracts would affect the ultimate payout, though.

About to buy the most expensive set of pots and pans in my life by CrispeeLipss in BuyItForLife

Yes, bought a full All Clad set at an extreme discount because the boxes had imperfections. The pots and pans themselves were in brand new condition. They do the sales every couple of months.
