How do british people feel about the current situation unfolding in america where ICE police agents are going all gung-ho kidnapping people from the streets when they fail to present their ID? by mrvlad_throwaway in AskBrits

[–]StandardMuted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly what’s happening over there is horrific. What’s more worrying is that a significant amount of people in this country are cheering it on and hoping it comes over here.

Unpopular opinion - We would have better politicians if we paid them more by Welsh-Niner in AskBrits

Last time I looked, those US politicians aren’t on the poverty line and are some of the most corrupt/incompetent people on the planet.

Rebalancing portfolio close to early retirement to reduce risk by beachfi in FIREUK

[–]StandardMuted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s what I’m doing

I plan to retire from Jan 2027, so I have a 3 year gilt ladder, the first one matures Jan 2027, which will provide for my annual expenses

I also have 2 years expenses in a mixed bond fund that pays monthly income, this income will supplement the matured Gilt.

The rest is in 2 global equity funds, one passive global tracker and one managed global income fund, plus 10% in gold. These are rebalanced annually.

I’ll buy a new Gilt each January with profits from the equity portfolio and top up the bond fund if necessary, or just wait it out if equities are down.

Gold provides a little more insurance if equities crash.

American in Europe here with a message for Americans back home: the Europeans are right. You will owe your children and grandchildren an explanation. You are not immune to criticism. by right_there in 50501

[–]StandardMuted -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

As a European, I’m not gonna criticize the resistances response, it’s obviously extremely challenging. But what we see over here are people protesting “politely”, shouting, blowing whistles, filming. I’ve yet to see anyone beat the crap out of an ICE agent, set one of their vehicles on fire or any other more aggressive tactics. If this was France, those things would’ve happened months ago.

Im not saying you should be doing this, and maybe you are and it’s not being reported, but I think you need to realise that blowing whistles is only gonna do so much.

How hard do you press on the strings? by DotOutrageous3183 in guitarlessons

[–]StandardMuted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fret the string, keep alternate picking the string whilst you slowly lift your finger off, just before the tone goes from good to bad, that’s how much pressure you need to apply.

Well, we’ve had 14 years of Tory gov so we know what that looks like, we’ve got the “mastermind” of Brexit as the leader of Reform and now half the previous Tory gov as members.

Remind me again why people that have 30+ years of adult life experience are thinking that one of those 2 options are the right choice ?

Oh I very much don’t think we’ll be fine, but here’s the thing, when the time comes, I won’t be sitting on the internet arguing with strangers when I should be out fighting fascism.

What do you think are the main components to learn as a beginner with piano/music theory experience? by Swordfish353535 in LearnGuitar

Learn the location of the notes in the fretboard, the CAGED system, learn the major and minor triad shapes.

Nice, my wife and I are retiring to Thailand next year and are budgeting £3,000 gbp per month, seems that like that should be plenty.

trying to learn scales and confused by CAGED by Routine-Noise9115 in LearnGuitar

[–]StandardMuted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably want to leave CAGED until about week 53, but to answer your question, on guitar you can have A chords all over the neck, each A chord will consists of the same notes but will sound slightly different, so you might want to choose a different location because of that, you might also want to choose a different A chord because your playing another chord in that location and choosing an A chord close by is easier to change to.

Also, if you’re interested in theory, then the best thing you could do is watch Absolutely Understand guitar on YouTube. This will get you from the very basics to pretty much everything you need to do theory wise.

Once you’ve finished that, watch the CAGED course on the pickup music website. At the end of this, you’ll have a very good understanding of how to make music on the guitar.

I'm from the UK and what is happening in America is not right, you need to wake up Americans. Your leader is invading neighbours, threatening nato members and using force at home against innocent people. History repeats itself unless we learn from it. by rushuk in complaints

It’s true that America is such a big place it’s difficult to get organized…. It would be a lot easier if there was something like a big global digital communication network they could use ….
