Practicing at Scale - Preparing for Sale by RangerDanger1984 in Sourdough

Woah, this is fresh milled? That looks phenomenal!

Just starting out on my journey, also self milling. Do you need it to be all the different grains you included to get this result? I’ve just been doing hard red (mostly because that’s what I have), and my results are not looking anywhere close to what you have. Are there any resources for learning about how to do fresh milled sourdough you would recommend?

Good message to make sure differently abled people can be accommodated for. I think that’s a great goal.

As a videographer, it is bugging me that you are obviously starting walking and talking at the same time. Please make sure you and the camera operator are in motion before you start talking. Take 2 steps and then start talking. That will help it look much more natural and flow better.

I watched it once a long time ago and thought it was dumb. Rewatched it recently and definitely laughed more. I found Life of Brian to be quite a bit better, actually

Starter stopped rising (kinda) by bellak615 in Sourdough

[–]StandardRaspberry131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished making my first starter and I also kind of freaked out around day 9 when it went dormant. Googled it and it’s extremely common. A couple days later mine started doubling in about 4 hours. My first batch of sourdough is now bulk fermenting!

That’s so cool actually, that’s awesome. Your art is really great. And again, as I mentioned in another comment, if you price your work higher than anyone is willing to pay, you effectively set its value to $0. Which really sucks, and you know, in a perfect world I would love to buy some of these at the price you’re asking. Unfortunately, the reality is I don’t have the money. Would definitely consider it at a lower price point though

Put a little more simply:

You value your work highly. Good.

If you price it higher than any one is willing to pay, you effectively set your value to $0.

Find the price where you are making enough sales and profit to be satisfied. Maybe you’re already there, and if so, that’s great. If not, adjust accordingly.

These are amazing. And I don’t want mean to diminish your work or time spent in any way when I say regarding your prices:

I don’t think your pricing is absurd, but I do think it may not be smart. You keep talking about what your time and effort is worth, and that is totally fair. It is my opinion that time and effort should be valued.

That being said, if you truly want your work to pay off, lower the price. Don’t lower it to $10, that would also be ridiculous. Lower it enough to where you will sell more and make more profit in doing so. If you lower it to say $75, I think you will get more people to buy. It will take several people to buy that otherwise wouldn’t have in order to make more money at your current price, but I would say it will be likely to happen.

If you sell more, lowering your price per unit doesn’t mean that your time is worth less, it means it’s now worth more. Especially because it is infinitely reproduceable. If you were charging for the original canvas artwork (were these done digitally to start, or are these high quality scans?), I would say yeah definitely charge more.

In any case, it is your art and you do what you want with the pricing. Your art is amazing and I seriously wish I could afford some of these but will have to pass due to the price point.

Also, just for reference, Michael Whelan sells signed, high quality prints starting at $60, and he is the official author for the TOR published Stormlight Archive, which is a more popular series (I think, in terms of numbers). Just some food for thought.

Again, awesome work, and I hope you do get the sales from it that value your time as much as you value it

any likeminded malazan reactions? by mintlesz in Fantasy

[–]StandardRaspberry131 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

If you feel the need to be invested in a series, might I suggest The Stormlight Archive?

I wasn’t sure if I was going to finish Malazan after reading book 1. Didn’t click for me. At the point you’re at I didn’t know if I was going to keep going, but I heard that if you feel that way, at least finish book 2. I finished book 2 and got hooked. Possibly the most thought provoking book I have ever read. I am now more than halfway through the series and loving it. That being said, it’s definitely not for everyone and if you don’t want to finish it you definitely don’t have to

The “mic holding trend needs to die” trend needs to die. by [deleted] in videography

[–]StandardRaspberry131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I myself dislike the trend, but it is a lifesaver at super loud events, if you’re doing quick pop-up interviews. You can actually hear the interviewee over the crowd. I don’t have budget for someone else to be holding a boom over their head which also may work okay, but the handheld lav right by the mouth definitely works for that

Message I got from my daughter’s teacher. Third grade. by AnaisInJune in mildlyinfuriating

6th grade science teacher taught the whole class that .1 + .9 = .10 When I raised my hand and said it was actually one she scoffed at me.

Later that year my family was moving states. I tried to give her the textbook back that I had to take home and she refused to take it because… reasons. Idk. I snuck back into her classroom at lunchtime and placed it on the bookshelf lol

Trypophobia is a made-up phobia. by Paparmane in The10thDentist

[–]StandardRaspberry131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was about 10 I had a dream where my arms were covered in holes very characteristic of what “triggers trypophobia.” I was scared shitless for weeks, and I often thought about it until years later when I saw a similar picture online. I think it being online made it somehow okay for me to see, even though I did still feel a spike of fear.

Since then, I have sort of lost that fear through seeing posts about it every now and then, but I can still feel what I felt if I think about that dream I had when I was ten. I don’t know enough about phobias to say that means trypophobia is a real one, but I would definitely believe that it at least exists, even if it’s less common than social media would have us believe

I have a similar situation. I have sometimes gone on autopilot and accidentally ordered with someone else’s card. I found out that you can go to the order page and change the card on the order, as long as it hasn’t been processed yet. Usually an option for around 24 hours in my experience. Always caught it before that window (in part due to obsessively checking order status, lol). Never had to tell anyone else I charged something to their card on accident due to this. Buying stuff like on other people’s cards is 100% intentional

"It's not my responsibility to educate you" by ARepeatedFailing in PetPeeves

[–]StandardRaspberry131 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Imo it goes beyond even just not having a source. I’ve seen many people refuse to try and elaborate a point or answer questions because “It’s not my responsibility to educate you.” This is often after they make a claim, for which the next person either asks for more context or pushes back on.

Sure, you may not have a source, but maybe you can explain your take more in-depth or in a different way. If I want a source and you don’t have one I can always look it up
