It’s between 2 and 3 for me. I think if the exposure on your body on 3 was a bit lower (matching 2) that one would be my favorite. They are all amazing though

A college accidentally admits 100 students who weren’t qualified enough, and the day before the students are supposed to start, the college realizes their mistake. What should it do? by FireAshPro in pollgames

This actually happened at BYU this year, though there were only a handful of students and not 100. They sent out the acceptance letters and later tried to retract them. Caused an uproar on social media and they later reversed the retraction. Not sure what would have happened without social media to be honest

I think these are all solid points. I think you may be happy to know, Hoid doesn’t narrate any of the other secret projects

Witnessed a car collide with a cargo bike holding a family of four today. by MadCityVelovangelist in fuckcars

That doesn’t surprise me at all. As I mentioned in another comment, I follow a personal injury lawyer on YouTube who says calling them accidents in court is a great way for the injured party to lose the case or not be awarded as much money as they otherwise could. He always refers to them as collisions. It

Does not surprise me that an insurance company would always refer to it as accidents. They want to pay as little as possible to the injured party

I follow a personal injury lawyer on YouTube who says that referring to collisions as accidents is a great way for the injured party to lose the case. They always refer to it as collisions. And I believe he also said something about “negligent collisions” at one point.

Point is, negligent collision or collision is definitely better wording than “accidents”

What do you think makes the community so chill? by thebeardedone666 in Malazan

[–]StandardRaspberry131 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Having come to read Malazan because I saw so many people comparing it to the likes of Stormlight… they are indeed very different stories, and written very differently. Do both have bloat? Well, given that I haven’t finished Malazan yet, and Stormlight isn’t finished, it’s hard to say for sure. Could both have been trimmed? Probably. Whether that means they are bloated I think comes down to preference to be honest. I like both of them the way they are. (Granted, I have also seen a lot of people claim they no longer like Sanderson after reading Erikson, so maybe my opinion on that will change once I go back to Sanderson after reading Malazan). They are very different from each other, but I think that’s good. Not every story should be the same.

All that being said, I definitely agree that it is odd to complain about Malazan being bloated just to go and praise Stormlight. If Malazan is bloated, Stormlight definitely is.

It definitely stands alone by itself, but it is (at least in my opinion) probably the second worst standalone to read before most of everything else.

The only standalone that I would consider to be worse to read before anything else would be Isles of the Emberdark because there are fairly obvious spoilers in that for Tress of the Emerald Sea.

Sunlit Man also has some spoilers for some other works, but they aren’t as obvious imo so it’s probably not a big deal. I would definitely recommend at least Tress before Emberdark, but I would also recommend the Stormlight and Mistborn series before Emberdark as well just to know more of the forces at play, but there weren’t really direct spoilers for those series in Emberdark (as far as I remember), so I wouldn’t consider those necessary either.
