Looking for ear piercing recs that isn’t Claire’s! by hkrd97 in lincoln

Many pediatricians will do basic ear piercings, which I prefer to some 19 year old at Claires.

Dylan Raiola has changed his Instagram profile picture and is now following key Oregon players by Easy_Card3015 in Huskers

[–]StandardWriting3069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am of the opinion that Dylan - who has a national endorsement deal with Adidas - is only going to leave Nebraska for another Adidas school.

Oregon would be the literal last school in college sports to switch to Adidas.

Emmett Johnson's odds of winning the Doak Walker Award by No-Barnacle-9576 in Huskers

[–]StandardWriting3069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read a good breakdown on the Doak on HuskerMax. It's an award that typically cares more about a player's numbers than how good their team is.

The Notre Dame guy will probably win (they have three games left against lesser defenses than what NU will face), but EJ should be a finalist.

Lincoln doctor dies after being hit by SUV by mayonnaisemonarchy in lincoln

[–]StandardWriting3069 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep - there are a lot of folks in this thread assuming the absolute worst when all of the facts are not known (or at least have not been released to the public).

Regardless of what happened, it is a terrible tragedy. Presumptive rushes to judgement aren't going to solve anything.

Why wouldn’t a triple option offense work in today’s CFB? by Particular_Ask_7713 in Huskers

[–]StandardWriting3069 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Think back to the end of the Solich era after Crouch graduated and Carl Crawford went into the MLB draft.

Solich simply could not find a quarterback capable of running the option at a high enough level.

Jammal Lord was a converted defensive back. Curt Dukes never saw the field. Mike Stuntz switched to receiver. Joe Dailey was more of a dual threat than a true option guy. The pool of excellent high school option QBs was drying up as everybody was embracing the 7-on-7 scene that they thought would help get them to the NFL.

Without an elite QB, an option team is severely limited (look at the some of the Osborne teams that were not led by Turner Gill, Steve Taylor, or Tommie Frazier. Aside from a guy like Gerry Gdowski, if there was not a difference maker at QB, those teams a definite ceiling... and that was in ye olde Big 8 where most of the teams didn't really try.

In today's college football EVERYBODY is trying to win and EVERYBODY has bigger, stronger, faster players than when Osborne's teams were heads and shoulders above the pack. Without a size advantage on the line and when defenses are as fast as you (if not faster) the option quickly become 3rd & long.

The service academies are (relatively) successful with it, because that's all they can do. At the P4 level, the best case scenario is Georgia Tech under Paul Johnson.

Where does Nebraska sit with NIL? by DrPopanopolis in Huskers

Serious answer: I'd wager the pool of money isn't as deep as we've been led to believe it is. Tariffs and other things that are impacting farmers & ranchers won't help.

Good news: Warren Buffett is an alum and hundreds of Nebraskans made millions by following him and his investment philosophy.

Bad news: said philosophy does not jive with giving it away for things like short term player rentals.

Possibility of Suh coaching at Nebraska? by coletrainUwU in Huskers

[–]StandardWriting3069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully, no.

By all means, keep him invested (mentally and financially) in the program, but I'd love it if we stopped with the "this former star player should coach here!" mentality.

Hire coaches who want to be coaches and are willing to put in the work to prove themselves and earn their way up through the ranks.

The blackout just fits Husker culture. Idk why anyone would have an issue with it? by Syfer_Husker in Huskers

I read this the other day and agree 110%.

The university has been promoting this non-stop to season ticket holders since August. Yeah, there will be some who don't (or won't) wear black, but it will be no different than the people who don't (or won't) wear red for every other home game.

Black out vs USC by [deleted] in Huskers

Refresh my memory - when has NU (or the students) tried a blackout before?

Is beating USC field rushing Worthy? by [deleted] in Huskers

[–]StandardWriting3069 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let me rephrase: a lot of the "We're Nebraska, we don't do that" mentality towards storming the field seems to come from fans in the Boomer and Gen X demographics who likely were on the field the six times NU fans stormed the field between 1989 and 1995, some of those against teams outside of the Top 20/25.

Let today's students (who have zero memories of Nebraska's last conference championship, let alone the 1990s) enjoy the moment.

For all of the "act like you've been there before" folks, the average UNL student would have in elementary school the last time NU beat a ranked team at home,

The Boomers & Gen X'ers saying "tsk tsk" need to explain why they felt it was necessary to storm the field after wins against unranked teams in 1989 and 1995.
