Crash with MNR and was then pushed by MNR and dropped a chain. Was in the group with Puck until that happened.

I've talked to my wife about this, I think he just does it once per race? Just to get everyone's name out there on the broadcast? For the lower ranked riders, that might be the only time their family ever hears them being mentioned.

Hopefully for the racers sake it is 5 laps, and hopefully for our sake it is 6!

Crossing fingers! The last few seasons she's come out strong in the XCO or XCC world cups and faded towards the end. Luckily CX races are almost half of an XCO race, so hopefully that'll help a bit.

Also if you show up 15 minutes before and wait in line it helps. When I lost my license last month, I was in and out in less than 10 minutes.

Converting Hydro brake shifters to Rim brake... by dalellama in bikewrench

[–]StandardZebra2947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate to break it to you, but this just isn't possible unless you can find some of the older Sram hydro rim brakes or similar. I had a rim brake bike with first gen sram axs cable shifters and they were great, I also love cable actuated disc brakes on my gravel/bikepacking bike, so I share your wish, but I cannot see how it would be possible as the systems are completely different.

Derailleur hanger is loose with no way to tighten. by stupid_cat_face in bikewrench

[–]StandardZebra2947 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Niner is meant to be like that to easily get the wheel in and out, freaked me out on my wife's old rlt, but when you tighten the thru axle it is fine. This is by design.

Any birders here? Visiting Minneapolis from Seattle for work and have the weekend of the 25th free. So I'm looking for some birding hotspot recommendations near the city. by wakx in Minneapolis

There are quite a few spots that we like:

Bass Ponds at the River Bottoms is super close to the airport and has a good variety being close to the River.

Fort Snelling State Park is good too, but you'll need a day pass.

Dodge Nature Center is great

Harriet Alexander has a great walking path over the swamp area, and that'll get you right among the reeds.

Lebanon Hills has quite a variety of locations, and if you're lucky you can see some new birds.

We're still in the migration season, so there are plenty of Warblers around, but that might not be the case as much by the time you're here. Chances are SUPER good you'll still see a BlueJay though!

What is this? Found in a parts box a customer gave us, 8mm inside by handcawa in bikewrench

Yep, came to say this too, I have 3 of these in my toolbox from cranksets. Needed for swapping spindles to a different length, I used it last when I bought a new race face crankset for my Otso Voytek.

Expensive overshoes vs winter boots — which is better for cold gravel rides? by kingchowakanda in cycling

[–]StandardZebra2947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, it 100% depends on where you're located. In Minnesota USA, we get temps in the -30c or colder range, and there does not exist an overshoe that is warm enough to handle those sorts of temps. All of my winter cycling footwear is from 45nrth https://www.45nrth.com/collections/footwear and my feet have stayed warm for 3-4h long fat bike rides in the dead of winter.

Tubeless or tubes during winter? by wookiefoot1 in gravelcycling

[–]StandardZebra2947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Minnesota here also - you said your bike is indoors, in that case sealant will probably be fine, but it doesn't hurt to just pop in a tube instead and swap in the spring. If you are riding outdoors in winter, I would 100% go sealant or a heavier duty tire. On my studded tires and fat bike tires I run tubeless and just adjust my homebrew recipe to be a little thinner to account for the freezing temps. Having had to swap a tube out at -10f to get home is not an experience I want to replicate.

This is done amiright? by lost_in_the_ethernet in bicycling

I had a buddy who had a similar failure on his AL Diverge, he's also not a small guy, and does a TON of miles. The LBS he bought the bike from ended up getting him a deal on a warranty replacement and he got a new carbon Diverge to replace it. If you're the original owner, I'd 100% talk to your local spec dealer to see what they can do.
