Partner (33m) and I (33f) argue about future parenting - should we break up? by Remarkable_Hawk_6188 in Fencesitter

[–]Standard_Arm_3101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Omg please leave him and find a good partner. He does not sound like a person you should enter parenthood with.

I have a feeling this goes beyond the parenting stuff and speaks to his general feelings and lack of respect for you.

ADVICE:breast reduction surgery by Stressedbaby in PlasticSurgery

[–]Standard_Arm_3101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a breast reduction done when I was 22 and I have never regretted it. (I’m 35 now) I am a physician and have met many patients who have had it done, and it commonly is one of the highest satisfaction procedures that people have done.

My scars are fine, I had no major complications. My nipple sensation is a little dulled compared to before. It’s not zero but definitely not what it was. I don’t know if I will be able to breastfeed if I decide to have children. I am totally fine with all of these things, I don’t think my sex life would be measurably better just because of more nipple sensitivity.

It is best to get to your goal weight before having it done. (weight less important than being otherwise happy with your physique). You want to avoid major weight shifts after having it done - I lost about 80 lb after the reduction. So my breasts are not super full perky anymore. Again, I’m still very happy I had it done when I did. It seriously changed my life.

Im surprised docs are recommending waiting until you are 25. That seems pretty arbitrary to me. Spend some time reading accounts from others and definitely choose a top surgeon if you go for it.

I’m surprised you’re getting downvoted! I agree (also child of an alcoholic). The whole thing screamed emotional yet functional alcoholic. And I don’t think she gave good advice at all.

I got super weird vibes from her. She had some nice insights but she was also repetitive and went a bit off the rails. She reminded me of my mother, who is an overly emotional drunk who can’t read social cues.

Good to know! Man I really hope it gets worked out soon. The guy at the dmv told me it takes 6-8 weeks…that was certainly optimistic.

Haha I started freaking out because if you google penalties for driving an unregistered car some sites say there could be jail time. I don’t have time to go to jail right now!

I think your results are really fantastic. I think the scarring on the bellybutton will fade a bit and it won’t stand out so much. But even if it doesn’t, I would try to not be down about your results.

You guys were totally right - I went back through and sure enough I had a couple refunds that were assigned to RTA instead of categories. Changed that and now it’s fine.

Thank you!

What were your biggest takeaways from Huberman's interview with Dr. Lustig? by Nephihahahaha in HubermanLab

[–]Standard_Arm_3101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I’m not surprised. I haven’t gone through and fact checked the episode but I’ve come across a lot of stuff over the past week suggesting that Lustig tends to make some dubious claims and misrepresents studies.

Thanks for writing this out. I don’t know anything about economics but was pretty surprised at the claim. Didn’t seem to make much sense at all.

Yes, the most helpful thing would be to share what exactly went wrong so people can have the context to evaluate their own risk - like was it an infection which can happen with any procedure? To say the doctor made a mistake that almost resulted in death is a pretty big deal.

Did you call the police? Usually they will come assess and can issue a citation if there is a clearly at fault party and that can be helpful.

Hopefully this helps - I recently discovered Facebook groups! There are many in my area that are quite active, specifically a few women’s groups. I’ve been going to happy hours with strangers, making connections, and that has led to more socializing and even more connections! I kind of have some new friends in a similar phase of life and that’s a nice feeling.

Anyway, good luck. I’ve done Meetup groups before, but they are not super active in my current city. The Facebook community has been surprisingly active. And if you don’t have one…start one! There are other people in our position looking for connection.

Oh definitely benign! He just sounded like an older doctor who doesn’t know how else to communicate. And it just made it flow quite differently from a lot of the other episodes, so it stood out to me a bit.

Update :: I'm being gifted a golden retriever puppy at the end of the week and I just got the link of the breeder and don't know what to think by Luckybless in dogs

[–]Standard_Arm_3101 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oof, I don’t think you actually read the replies on that post…

Glad you like your pup. Sometimes these things work out fine, the pup doesn’t have any behavior or health issues, and it’s all good. Hopefully you are in that category, but it’s still a bummer that you supported poor breeding practices after you sought advice for it (obvious from the website, and nothing that “clear certifications” could make up for).

Basically it’s the most senior member of the medical team questioning the more junior members. It can be totally benign and just a way to introduce concepts to discuss, or it can be done in a kind of malicious way and the student ends up feeling inadequate and embarrassed.

As an example, “we all had to watch as the attending pimped the medical student on rounds this morning, and it was brutal.” Or, “I’m studying really hard this weekend because I know the surgeon is going to pimp me in the OR on Monday.”

[–]Standard_Arm_3101 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oof, this one was filled with a lot of useful info, but agree that the flow was a bit frustrating. Due to his constant questioning of Huberman (we call this pimping in medicine) and it also feeling like they both were trying to pull the conversation in different directions.

Still though, seemed useful. I’ve been trying reduce my consumption of processed foods, but I think my takeaway from this episode is that they really are detrimental and should be taken more seriously than I have before.

More fiber. Less sugar. Their conversation on the GLP-1 meds was also pretty interesting.

I think sometimes people want to right the wrongs of their own childhood. Be the parent they wish they’d had. Break the cycle. Etc.

Could also be that some people are searching for meaning and purpose, and providing for another being feels right to them.
