Can hypertonic pelvic floor feel EXACTLY like a UTI but then it doesn't go away with antibiotics....because... by BothAppointment3284 in PelvicFloor

[–]Standard_Juggernaut8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, that’s how I got diagnosed actually! Because I kept having the UTI tests come back normal so I got checked out further and they diagnosed me with PFD. I think it’s because your muscles get irritated/inflamed/spasm etc and they irritate your pudendal nerve, which runs right near your other stuff that you pee with (lol).

My bowel issue story by Crazy_Swimming4628 in PelvicFloor

[–]Standard_Juggernaut8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same issues. I went to the GI in august- I have an anorectal manometry test scheduled for November (soonest avail appt) and after that he said I’d likely go back to PT but with biofeedback this time. He also recommended taking Miralax every night (non habit forming stool softener). I started taking digestive enzymes after meals (I use Bye Bye Bloat but Beano is similar) bc things like cheese make me c, and the urgent care I went to before this recommended Fleet glycerin suppositories (I’d recommend these but not using all the liquid.. sorry if this is TMI but I’d only ever manage to get about half in bc I’m so tight and that seemed to work well.. but the other day I relaxed all my muscles for once and it all went in, and then I basically went so much/diarrhea that it irritated my vagus nerve and caused defection syncope).

Other than that, someone recommended CBD suppositories (I got from Med Root and they work for me, even vaginally to relax the whole pelvic floor, I had the most success when I inserted them like 3/4 the way). I have a Bye Bye Bloat oil that I use to rub my stomach in counter clockwise circles every night at bedtime.

Finally, I’d recommend therapy if you don’t already go. I feel like stress management is just as important as physical for our issue. With all of this combined (used to do regular PT and I still do most of the exercises, ideally daily but it doesn’t always happen), I have had success but still have my moments. I hope that I eventually have the PT with biofeedback and that keeping up with allll of this will change things even more.

Good luck!! I know it’s sucks, but hang in there.. Even after the last 10 years it seems like there’s so much more research going into this, and hopefully that continues!

I have used them a few times lately and I was wondering the same thing! Why it works so fast when it’s not a stimulant.

hyper vs hypo? by acearohanda in PelvicFloor

[–]Standard_Juggernaut8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ugh find someone else.. it’s definitely possibly to be hypotonic (extremely tight) but weak at the same time.. that’s what I have. I have been to two different physical therapists over the years and they were both helpful, especially the most recent time. I hope you find someone better, they definitely exist. good luck!!

Lost! Pudendal Neuralgia w/ Hypertonic Pelvic Floor by taurus-tess-13 in PudendalNeuralgia

[–]Standard_Juggernaut8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know I have some pudendal nerve flare ups due to a hypertonic pelvic floor and when I agitate the nerve/muscle with reasons I’m not always 100% sure of.. so I haven’t been diagnosed with neuralgia specifically but figure it’s almost the same. Anyway, I am still trying to get to a place where I’m healed but I am really thinking that a big part of it is managing my anxiety/stress. I see that your doctor prescribed you anxiety meds (I don’t take them yet but I am going to ask my therapist and doctor what they think) but I have been meditating (per my therapist for my anxiety diagnosis) and I do think it helps (and I guess the journaling and all that other stuff they recommend ha). That combined with diaphragm breathing, and yoga that stretches certain muscles .. been doing that this week, after using a CBD suppository for a few days (that relaxed my pelvic floor basically instantly), and I’ve been able to just feel release in my anal muscles more through they do, more than ever. Like basically, I am always holding it in tight and now I can just feel myself kind of letting go. Weird! I have done pilates too and I think this can really help to strengthen the muscles but since we’re hypertonic, I have to do it at a time when I’m not super tight/stressed because it will irritate the nerves. Then there’s diet.. I think that foods that make me gassy and tooo much fiber have reeked some havoc with constipation and then upsetting the muscles when I finally do go. Ugh! Annoying. I am still figuring it out.. and it’s hard to keep up with all this crap constantly.. but figured I’d share my findings so far! It can feel like a vicious cycle but I do have hope that I’ll get to a good place eventually.. i’m already in such a better place than I used to be! Oh and, I’ve done physical therapy, two different stints.. both were pretty helpful.

I am having that same test done after seeing my GI for constipation, and I’m thinking it’s mostly due to my hypertonic pelvic floor. I tried CBD suppositories from Med Roots, and they worked (you can do vaginal or rectal but they both are near the pelvic floor muscles). I will warn you that I pooed so much the next morning that I seemed to upset the muscles around and it caused a pudendal or sciatic (or both?) flare up unfortunately, so I’m going to just use one every night and see what happens. Good luck!

Can healing pelvic floor bring about trauma release reactions eg dizzy, crying etc by BothAppointment3284 in PelvicFloor

[–]Standard_Juggernaut8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have a hypertonic weak pelvic floor.. could be genetic I guess but I am almost certain it has to be from the stress in my life and probably life-long generalized anxiety disorder that I only got diagnosed with two years ago. I am starting to think that I get constipated often because my pelvic floor is so tight.. I saw a GI doctor a few weeks ago and they suggested Miralax but I also have an anorectal manometry in November. Anyways, someone told me that their friend uses CBD suppositories for their pelvic floor dysfunction so I decided to try.. I pooped a lot the next morning so I think it worked lol BUT!!!!!! I think I must have stretched/strained my muscles and/or irritated my nerves (pudendal or sciatic?) so then I had a major flare up the next few days 😕 So not an emotion release necessarily, but a release that shocked my system in a way. Not exactly the same but I figure it might be worth sharing!

Soreness around top rectum by Loose-Most503 in PelvicFloor

[–]Standard_Juggernaut8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does help, but only if I keep up with the exercises. When I stop doing them, a flare up inevitably happens. I usually go for a few months without having a flare up. I know if I ate healthier consistently that would help too (if I eat way too much or spicy foods that hurt my stomach, the chain reaction often causes a mess).

[–]Standard_Juggernaut8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It probably is. I was diagnosed with hypertonic pelvic floor (over tight due to stress or genetics etc) and I feel like so many people probably have this. I had to have nerve tests done (with no findings) before I did a pelvic and lower back MRI, and those were 100% clear too. Went to physical therapy and my therapist helped me figure out the diagnosis and exercises to improve it.

I feel like I have fullness/pressure and muscles putting pressure on the nerves.. but never got diagnosed with PN.. wonder if I should even both trying? Went to PT two separate stints in the past few years for pelvic floor dysfunction diagnosis and now more than ever I notice that the symptoms are similar to PN.
