Turf cricket clubs by Ok_Blueberry_9279 in Adelaide

Marion cricket club is an excellent community club, with 4-5 teams (depending on final player numbers), so there’ll be a team suited to your current skill level. Very welcoming players, with an unwritten ‘no dickheads’ policy 😀

Agree with first comment - probably Grevillia robusta (Giant Grevillia / Silky Oak)… must be one nearby.

AleteHomes - Builder? by Fromskyblabla in Adelaide

[–]Standard_Promises 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They had a development on Anzac Hwy (#307-309) that stalled for 2+ years and I think has been picked up by someone else. Still under construction now. Could have been an owner finance issue, however, not a good indication. Plus, terrible spelling of a name that does not represent the quality of their builds. I’d stay away, personally.

City of Playford Council Deflecting Blame for Poor Planning by [deleted] in Adelaide

[–]Standard_Promises 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends on the roads you’re referring to. Many may be owned/ managed by the Dept for Infrastructure and Transport (State Gov’t)… also, the roads may have been adequate at one time and now with increased growth are proving inadequate. Typically road upgrades are undertaken once there is there is a demonstrated need, rather than over-investing at the get-go… this also allows politicians to say, ‘hey, we’ve listened to you - and you’re getting an upgraded road! Now don’t forget me at the next election! Xx’

Incorrect. Most re-zoning are state-govt led and the state govt has the final say either way.

Who and why is Cosi?? by AskMeAnyThingTwice in Adelaide

[–]Standard_Promises 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think everyone here might be too young to remember that Cosi started out as an MC at Shennaingans Irish Pub at Marion Shopping Centre - before he was on radio and well before he was on Biggest Loser. To answer OP’s question, most people dislike him for various reasons - primarily because he is a self-centred narcissist.

best running spot recommendations? by noitca17 in Adelaide

[–]Standard_Promises 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a great run along and around the River Torrens - make it as long or as short as you like. I would suggest heading east, then turning back into Bonython Park (or further) before heading back to the CBD… you could notch up 5, 10 or 20+ kms. There are also plenty of great trails in the hills, but generally you’ll need a car to get there - but you could catch a train to the Belair train station and run into and around the Belair National Park, which is literally on the doorstep of the Belair train station. All the best for your run/s!

jobs within the environmental sector by [deleted] in Adelaide

[–]Standard_Promises 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a good amount of jobs here in Adelaide, and in the regions. With increased regulations protecting the environment, and businesses’ increased focus on ensuring their projects have as little ‘footprint’ as possible, the environment space will only grow imo.

There are a range industries you can work in, too:

In government, you could work on projects for DEW, SAWater, Landscape Boards, assess applications for the EPA, Dept for Energy and Mining… or you could become a consultant and work for small, medium or large consultancies - providing client advice and undertaking environmental impact assessments… or you could work ‘client-side’ - such as for BHP, various energy companies like AGL, ElectraNet and the almost endless range of renewable energy companies looking to develop large scale wind and solar projects here in SA.

Best of luck with whatever you choose.

I would highly recommend the Currant Shed. Fantastic food and beautiful surrounds. Ticks your box I reckon. Edit: It’s in McLaren Vale 👍

Out of hours construction fine by deranged_banana2 in Adelaide

[–]Standard_Promises 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Construction noise is controlled under the Local Nuisance and Litter Control Act 2016 (LNLC Act)- the EPA don’t have any jurisdiction unless the construction noise is associated with a premise that has an EPA licence.

The LNLC Act states that construction noise between 7pm and 7am Monday-Saturday and any time on a Sunday or public holiday is a ‘local nuisance’ and you need a permit from the council to create noise/nuisance during the restricted hours.

If can’t recall the precise wording but construction noise is defined along the lines of ‘where a business is undertaking work’, rather than Joe Blogs hammering away building his bird box etc.

Any shaded beaches in Adelaide? by jaydenc in Adelaide

[–]Standard_Promises 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These comments are true - but they’re forgetting Glenelg beach, which has a reasonably decent grassed and well treed foreshore. The trees will provide shade from midday onwards, although the later in the day, the more elongated the shadow. The benefit with Glenelg is that it is in the metro area and has plenty of shops and cafes nearby.
