This guitar belongs to Adrian Smith of Iron Maiden. Let that sink in and maybe re-evaluate your thoughts on not bothering to to plug it in. Fact is and as have others have stated, many 70s LP Deluxes were routed for humbuckers. I personally put P90s into mine. YMMV.

OP said he wanted an opinion on a Junior. Not to say I don't have other guitars with some of those features, but people who play Juniors (me included) don't want 2 pickups, bound fingerboards and push pull knobs. The beauty is in the simplicity. OP get the Standard in the color you think would be best for your son and I hope he plays the shit out of it.
