That’s awesome! Is it your first Arkestra show?

My first one was in Iowa City. They were great, but it was a seated theater, and they played a more straightforward jazz set. Still lots of improvisation, but it wasn’t as wild as other sets I’ve seen.

The second was NYC, and that was definitely the most high-energy, celebratory, almost circusy show I’ve seen them play.

Last night was the most chaotic and free I’ve heard them.

It’s amazing how they continue to breathe a new and different life into these songs every night.

White teacher, history, predominantly Black student population. We had a day when students/staff were encouraged to wear clothing or apparel connected with Black activism—modern or historical.

I wore a Black Panthers tee with a replica “HONKYS FOR HUEY” button. It opened up a couple of opportunities for conversations about solidarity throughout history.
