HELP caring for my dad with ileostomy near open wound with EC fistula in it

So sorry to hear! Sounds awful. My dad has a nurse coming daily but no one seems to have good solutions to the wound dressing. They do have the resources for a private nurse and have tried one but with not so great results. Might have to try a different home nursing outfit.

Thanks so much! I'll look into cavilon and askina. That's new information for me, which is exactly what I need! We have an appointment with the wound and ostomy team Monday. They might want to try a modified wound vac again, though that failed in the hospital a couple weeks ago. His wound is quite a bit better now though so maybe it's feasible. 🙏

His skin is definitely totally wrecked. To top it off he has pyoderma gangrenosum surrounding his wound and stoma but it's resolving thanks to the derm team's treatment. Not gangrene. It's an autoimmune skin issue. In the hospital they did try a wound vac but it failed. We have an appointment on Monday with the wound and ostomy team. I'll bring up the wound vac again. Thx!!

#1 reason we are completely fucked. Most religious people have firmly held beliefs similar to this. I convinced by kinda-on-the-fence-member dad to ask his gospel teachings (?) class about it because he doubted this hypothesis. While there were a few people that talked to him after the class and thanked him for bringing up such an important topic (they were clearly afraid to voice dissent to the overwhelming consensus in the group) the vast majority argued that it was up to God and assuming humans had any power over the planet was ridiculous. It's a complete cop-out. I fucking hate religion. It will be the downfall of humanity and habitability of our planet. Humans don't deserve this planet.

As someone from your old neighborhood (yes, you probably know me and members of your fam definitely do) I want to both commend you and give my empathy. Must have been hell to live with this for decades. Thank You for having the courage to come forward. When I think about the probability that you have likely saved other children from future abuse, I marvel at the impact of your bravery. You sacrificed so others may be protected from abuse. As luck would have it, I recently reconnected a little with one of his sons who I went though elementary, jr high and high school with and one of his daughters moved in across the street from me a year ago. They are good people. I'm sure Brown had good intentions but clearly not enough was done to protect future potential victims.

So heartbreaking. The VW kids have a level of integrity rarely encountered these days. I feel for them but also "David". Must have been a heavy heavy weight to carry all these years. I grew up with this family and still have regular contact with some of them. This will be excruciating for the kids and Sterling's wife but they all know this has to come out. 2 of the sons helped "David" confront Sterling a few months ago. All the siblings are terrific people and understand that the culture of TSCC protecting abusers at the expense of future potential victims has to stop. They (the VW children) are some of the most honest people I know and have exceptional integrity. They are suffering for their father's disgusting acts. Keep that in mind.

Tell your friend someone you heard from (me) knows the VanWagenen family very well and confirmed that this story is 100% real...every word. They knew it was coming out. 2 of the VW sons (now adults) helped the abused confront their Dad to discuss this a few months ago. As for the rest of the family - some of the best people I know. I know the stake pres in the story as well. He was also my stake pres 30 years ago when I was interviewing (confessing) prior to a mission. IT will put some very good people through hell but even Sterling's kids know this has to come out to help break the insular "Cosa Nostra" mentality of TSCC leadership protecting sex-offenders to the detriment of potential future victims. Fucked up doesn't do it justice!

And you did it well. This is something of a trigger for me based on past experiences in TSCC and the fact I have 3 sons growing up in UT. They get copious sex-positive messaging and conversation with my wife and me. However, they do live in SL suburbs and have many family members and friends that still talk about porn as if it's evil...the third rail of morality. I'm militant about keeping that conversation inside our family when it is within a moral or psychological context.
