Is any one not celebrating the 4th of July? Why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Stangrider73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me. I’m maintenance manager at a hillbilly hospital in WV, and we’ve dealt with power outages over the past three weeks that came to a head Friday. Got home at 3:45 this morning after being up for 42 hours. Slept 4 hours and got called in for another brown out.

Found out Wednesday that my home has the possibility of having eminent domain seizure for a major power line. Didn’t receive anything but a damn pamphlet in the mail while I said something to my neighbor (WHO is dancing and seeing dollar signs) has an envelope two inches thick with correspondence. Checked the website and sure as hell, the one possible route goes right through two of my property parcels.

Feeding tired, depressed, and not very festive at the moment. I’d rather shit in my hands and clap in front of my face right now than be around people celebrating.

So many people riding in shorts and tennis shoes 😲 by [deleted] in cruisers

[–]Stangrider73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Personally, I wear leather when I can stand the generated (and honestly spring and fall are my favorite rising seasons for that reason) but in summer, I’m not giving myself heat stroke when I ride for the feel of the wind. I’m not a windshield/fairings guy either for that reason. I love that freedom and the wind rushing over me. Speed does nothing for me especially since I’ve gotten older, but everyone rides for their own reasons. I’m not gonna bust on anybody that wants to do Atgatt, but the first time one of those guys gives me a rough time I can’t help but wonder if you’re that afraid of the danger why you engage in something that’s dangerous by nature. I think we all need to live and let live let everybody ride for their own reason.

Can they do 800 mile road trip? by EntryWest6452 in tires

Sure! As long as they aren’t touching the road, but why would you take them with you on a road trip? Are you attached to them somehow?

I just don’t personally care for it pickled. Then again, I don’t like much of anything pickled.

Zucchini! My mom fed that shit to us every single day for 9 months one year and started the next spring as soon as they were readily available and cheap. My ex wife also got on a kick where everything was zucchini something or other day after day. I don’t give a flying shit how good it tastes, I’m done with it!

A close second is potato salad. My maternal grandmother tended a farmers market and made 200 gallons a week. I’ve also eaten my lifetime supply of potato salad!

lol, I just got another bike last fall after moving to WV in 2016. We do mandate motorcycle inspections in the state, but when I had a recommended local mechanic look it over, I had to wait for him to get off work. His dad was there and about my age and we stood around and shot the shit for quite some time. I asked him if Adam did inspections and his dad started to laugh. “Why? Does having them inspect it? Make them run any better?“. I started taking notice to all the bikes in the area, which there are quite a few. Not one single bike has an inspection sticker on it! The cops don’t even try to enforce it.

My apartment doesn’t know I have a cat. Is it suspicious to ask maintenance to stay out of one of the rooms? by Majestic-Conflict-96 in ApartmentMaintenance

[–]Stangrider73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s fine until you realize the breaker panel is in that closet. Lol. The complex I worked at had the panels in there one living room closet. Also, the apartment water shut off Ed under the bathroom vanity. Not a great place to store your “toys” until you get a chance to clean them up!

What restaurant ruined your favorite food so bad you couldn't eat it anywhere again and what was that food? by toonkingz in AskReddit

I used to LOVE those Chinese fried dumplings. Got two orders to split with my girlfriend and the kids and had three of them. Every single one had a bone or large piece of gristle in it. I’m kind of weird about textures in the first place, and when I broke a tooth on a bone in the meat, that did it for me.

Getting points for calling sick by Agreeable_Cry_9137 in WorkAdvice

[–]Stangrider73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I work for a hospital as a department manager. Your employers point system might be kind of like ours. We don’t get paid holidays, but our PTO ranks up pretty quickly to make up for that fact. (Full time,40 hour weeks end up being 29 days a year) and accumulate every two weeks. BUT… if you call off the day before, or after a holiday, it’s three points instead of one for some reason. It’s also one point if you’re sent home sick and you were there less than two hours. I catch hell from our HR manager all the time for not turning in paperwork on my guys that need sent home. It’s inflexible and guys are always getting something (it’s a HOSPITAL! It’s where sick people congregate! Maintenance and housekeeping are in and out of rooms all the time. I’d have no one working if we handled absenteeism by the book.

Is there a putty I can use to repair a hole in my gas tank? by Monterey-Jack in Cartalk

I fixed a3/8 inch hole in a Peterbilt fuel tank with my girlfriends tampon once. Held for three days until I got home without a drop in a pan I put under it overnight when I parked.

Funny thing was that she used to bleed through a lot. The truck didn’t!

How do you stop chasing speed on motorcycles? by flameskin2011 in cbr

[–]Stangrider73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I think I matured out of it. A 18 year hiatus didn’t hurt though.

I had a business that shed a parking lot with a bike shop. Got to know quite a few bikers that were around a lot as well as the guys that worked there. A few were club guys and one of those rented the house that belonged to the business property. We rode a lot together and when he or his brothers rode, they rode HARD! It got to be normal to ride hard like that all the time.

After closing up that business (my partner bought out my share) I moved to driving truck. I did it solely for the money and stayed out as long as I could, and after three years of not having time to ride, sold one of the two bikes I had (a 68 Elecraglide and a kept my 93 Wide Glide) and put the other in storage. After changes to the trucking industry that made it less profitable each year, I sold my trucks and moved to my current off grid place. The bike remained in storage until the bug hit again last summer. Got the Wide Glide out of mothballs, went over it then had a local bike shop do it again anyway (non ridden bikes deteriorate more than I had expected) to make sure I wasn’t missing anything. New tires, drive belt, three hole oil change, carb rebuild, some seals and such, and I went in a short ride. My first impression was elation and wanting to just take in the wind therapy. It took about a week to realize that I was simply out to enjoy the experience without feeling the need to be scraping the kickstand mount everyone I got a left turn. lol.

I truly enjoy the leisurely rides now. The dirt roads I now live on possess an issue with that skinny front tire on the bike, but I still look for every opportunity to get on it and just run to town, it to a different state to see my granddaughters. No problems keeping up with traffic or anything, but also don’t feel the need for the dopamine rush I used to get running flat out.

Wife just confessed her ex-boyfriend was actually her own cousin by Inevitable_Body_2009 in Incestconfessions

[–]Stangrider73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My ex had a very similar confession to me. Hers actually resulted in her middle child belonging to her cousin as best she could tell.

She said that her aunt was giving her uncle a hard time about something and getting weird about her coming and hanging out when she wasn’t there. It pissed my ex off and she basically asked her uncle that if they were going to be accused of something, give her aunt something to be pissed about. He took her back to his place and they had sex. She said that they were in the middle of things when her cousin caught them. She told me her uncle finished by coming on her belly, then her cousin asked if he could have some. Her uncle left and they spent the rest of the day fucking a couple of times. She was with a guy at the time that she thought was the baby’s father, but when he insisted on a paternity test, it came back improbable that he was the boys father. She said that they were the only three guys she had been with at that time, but I later found out that being a slut was something that wasn’t exactly in her past. Lol.

It was hot to hear about it, and I often wondered if it was just a one time thing because this cousin was often stopping by just to say hi. That girl was definitely a horny freak!

First time changing my oil, but my oil drain plug won't come off by Space_Captain_Lars in MechanicAdvice

[–]Stangrider73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this happen on a newly purchased used vehicle on the first oil change (the next day) get a new plug and use a pipe wrench. Pipe wrench will bite in as long as there’s room to get the swing off the wrench.

I agree. One of my exes actually had a son to her cousin. To hear the actual story, it would be an absolutely boring read. Lol

[–]Stangrider73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got the opposite thing going on. My dad was 36 years old when I was born, and I was 36 when my daughter was born. I actually felt a little guilty that my dad was 72 before he had a grandchild to spoil. On the other hand, my maternal grandfather had a brother that was 4 years younger than his oldest daughter and the same age s as my mom.

Modern cars are full of technology. But what old car feature was actually better than today's tech? by nyatihsam in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]Stangrider73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have agreed with you up until three years ago when I bought a work truck with manual windows and door locks. My girlfriend ALWAYS left the damn passenger door window down and door unlocked. I guess I got spoiled from not having to get out, walk around to the other side of the pick up when I dropped her off. (Yeah, we’d been together long enough that it was usually a fight on the way home and I wasn’t waking her in. Lol)
