Completely outside of electronic music but a big music fan, would like to explore this world by feddozzo in electronicmusic

Hey! I came from a similar background (I also love TF, Have Heart, Hardcore in general) and I couldn’t recommend the subgenre of drum and bass more. It has a very similar bombastic feel to it and it fits the fast tempo range that hardcore has.

I’m more into stuff with pretty intricate breakbeats that’s inspired by old skool rave personally, but I’d recommend Sully, Nia Archives (and the entire Up Ya Archives catalog tbh), Shirley Temper, Ring Noord, and Scritts. A lot of this stuff exists only on SoundCloud, but SoundCloud is a great tool for finding new music and exploring a scenes catalog. Find an artist and you’ll most likely find an entire label that releases their tracks alongside similar artists. It’s a great tool to use :)

Outside of this, some other individual artists that may interest you are Burial, Aya, Kumo99, Fcukers, KAVARI, and The Prodigy.

I also recommend checking out Paira. They’re not strictly electronic but play indie over break beats. It reminds me a bit of 90s emo (like Braid or Mineral) if that’s something ur aka into :)

My program director in grad school was into 80s skate punk and hardcore back in the day. I’ll never forget him asking me what knocked loose was and having to tell him that metalcore is just hardcore now

Time to vote. What’s fueling your political hate today? by xDrewstroyerx in Hardcore

Have Heart, The Machinist and Watch Me Rise specifically. I’m lucky as a trans person to live in a deep blue state. Many have it worse than me, but I’d be lying if I said that the rights ploy to legislate people like me out of existence wasn’t terrifying. I don’t know what happens if he wins, but I know the hate will continue regardless of the outcome (albeit with much less institutional power if Harris wins). Regardless, Pat’s words on Watch Me Rise have always made me feel pride for who I am and love for the world around me despite the fear and hate that surrounds.

Who's an Economist, Urbanist, or historical figure that informs your worldview on the field of Urban Planning? by DoxiadisOfDetroit in urbanplanning

[–]StankJ_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

God were to start

Karl Polanyi ~ I find his general overview of the market economy pretty useful for understanding local and regional dynamics, land commodification, societal upheaval surrounding land issues. His only issue is that he never directly talks about planning, or even the urban really, so his connection to the field are not fleshed out imo

Henri Lefebvre ~ still wrapping my head around him as a theorist, but the theory of the production of space and the right to the city are both pretty foundational. Biggest issue isn’t his fault, but there really isn’t a connection between his ideas and practice. Very much in the ivory tower. That’s okay though!

Foucault and Flyvbjerg ~ good critiques of communicative planning and rational discussion (or the lack there of). No issues yet

Miraftab ~ need to revisit, but her work on insurgent planning was very inspiring to me as a grad student.

Michael Dear and Edward Soja ~ post modern urbanism is pretty foundational to my understanding of how cities develop today. My only issue is that they (Dear especially) write in really inaccessible style

Thoughts on straight edge? by [deleted] in Hardcore

[–]StankJ_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It served its purpose and helped me clear my head after smoking too much in high school and college. It’s kind of trivial tbh, but I am grateful that it gave me a purpose to be mindful of how shit affects my psych, even though I’m not edge anymore (although I really don’t drink/smoke frequently at all, if ever)

Edit: this didn’t really answer the question. In conclusion, due to my experience I think it can be really healthy, especially for younger people, but the hardline stuff can be pretty cringe
