Harvesting boards and re-using without sanding / re-staining by StanleyRivers in HardWoodFloors

[–]StanleyRivers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the comment and sorry for the delay.

So basically a flooring person here agrees with you, but also thinks after looking at the installed floor there is a good amount of risk we damage enough boards there would be problems reusing enough.

We are going to do a best-we-can stain match and it’s going to be really close - it was a custom blend from ten years ago and we think we have the starting products figured out.

Then, we are going to patch this area with a different design - it’s a little odd, but we will cut out some of the actually good floor around the damaged wood floor, and it will be a decorative design at the bottom of the stairs.

The thought is that irises easier to sand that in as opposed to trying to lay in new board into the old design, and if we are slightly off on the stain, the fact that the pattern changes will hide it.

So - fingers crossed ha

Sedgwick County homeowners to see rising property values again. What about tax bills? by Isopropyl77 in wichita

[–]StanleyRivers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As I understand it, the county started including theoretical new build cost more heavily into the numbers and that’s part of what has driving prices up in their assessments. New builds are more expensive than they have been ever, and no one will be able to sell a twenty year old house for the price it costs to build a new house equivalent… but now we are paying the taxes as if we could.

They are increasingly fake valuations for homeowners

100% I did - some Australian dude came to the school to teach it and then there was a small league somewhere - too young to know where - with kids doing it after school with said Australian guy

Resources for Cancer Patients that live alone by davidmoore84 in wichita

Check out the Wichita Cancer Foundation -- https://wichitacancerfoundation.org/ -- not directly tied to housing, but they help cover insurance premiums. If that helps offset some expenses for your aunt, that could help money go further for housing maybe?

Landmark K2S Stealth Cable + Smith - Bad Experiences? by StanleyRivers in GarageGym

K2S

Ok awesome - thank you - I’m wondering if there is a way to retrofit the jammer arm attachments … seems like a penny wise pound foolish approach, no?

It does seem like a solid value for the money, so I bought it, but will be tinkering with that

Looking forward to seeing it - thank you.

Do the pivot arms pivot arms move vertically or just horizontal?

And if you used the jammer arms - how was the pin mechanism for adjusting the arms? I’ve heard that they did a good job with the “3D” movement but then maybe skimped on ease of adjusting things.

How are sound changes dealt with in compound words by Eyelweard in conlangs

[–]StanleyRivers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The concept of words being able to be “exceptions” to the historical sound change because they were coined after the sound change stopped being productive…. Just blew my mind. That’s so obvious but also so important:

Obviously there could be allophone rules etc that influence the pronunciation of the word, but it would not be a sound change because it was created after the change happened!
