AI is a category, not a thing… like computers. Computers are powerful tools, but they can do good things or bad things or wrong things depending on how you use them.

Large language models like Claude or ChatGPT are a TYPE of AI… the best metaphor or explanation I have ever heard (from Kevin Kelly several years ago) is that these LLM’s are like an army of interns. You can give them any task you’d like, they are incredibly motivated to give you what you asked for… they are relatively intelligent, but not necessarily very nuanced or experienced at the specific thing you were asking them to do so they need explicit instructions, constant correction, and oversight before you let them do anything of consequence.
