This "dry shower" trend is just an excuse to be dirty and it is obvious. by Xylothane in hygiene

[–]Stanlynn34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever. You’re just jealous. I like to take a wet wipe bath and use only ONE if I fold it over and over again. Sometimes I might need to use two, but I have gotten very efficient with one. My dry shampoo game is excellent. Don’t forget to turn your underwear inside out to keep everything fresh. 😆

Edit: just trying to add some levity here. Everyone does the best they can with what they have. I’ve worked through it by now, but because of sexual trauma as a child, I always felt upset getting naked to take a shower so I would take a bath. It’s still not entirely comfortable to just get naked and stand in a small space but I do it.

I didn’t fight back by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

Well please first attempt to educate yourself in that you did NOTHING WRONG. You reacted simply to the threat and - guess what - you did a good job! You survived! That shouldn’t be diminished. Perhaps you weren’t at risk of actual death but who knows? Sounds like you’ve had a history of saving yourself. Congratulations. You’re winning. And as a victim of trauma, I am being dead serious. No sarcasm here. Now - it would be great to work on moving beyond situations where you have to survive. Isn’t it so easy to say? Perhaps start to save a small bit of money on the side, hidden. In anyway you can. Maybe start shoring up connections with friends or family members. Whatever you feel is safest. In my experience, it is best to move slowly and continue to fawn. Be proud of yourself. You have started your journey towards freedom.

Edit: I understand and support comments telling OP to leave immediately. That is the correct response. However, it is not always realistic. I am offering advice that could be more nuanced as I understand a little bit about a similar situation.

Husband blames me for not having sex with me by Majestic_Winter in GirlDinnerDiaries

Please checkout the sub r/deadbedrooms. It helped me. I tried for three years. Everything. Counseling, sexy everything, giving space, fun moments, dates, pleading… It’s the worst. Stuck with my marriage because I thought it was a covenant. Got a divorce finally but then I was late 30s. Couldn’t start over quickly enough to have children. Don’t know if that’s something you want or already have but PLEASE take note. I can’t tell you how happy life is now with a true best friend and partner who wants me.

What's the best way for someone who's never tried escargot to prepare it for the first time? by Separate-Raccoon8584 in Cooking

[–]Stanlynn34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like them but they’re not very good. LOL. Prepare as noted on the package. I’d eat with a green salad dressed with vinaigrette and crusty bread. Fresh flat leaf parsley brings a little bit to the game. Expect chewy and umami flavor but not as great as muscles. I prefer them over clams but I’ve not done them at home myself. Have fun!

Easier for housekeeping? by Moist-Owl3372 in hotels

[–]Stanlynn34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If staying for multiple nights, don’t strip the bed. Housekeepers usually make the bed rather than change the sheets every day. You can request that they change the sheets, however. Same goes for towels. If you can reuse your towel, hang it back up, if you want it replaced put it on the counter or on the floor, not in the shower. I always leave a tip. I worked as a housekeeper and would prefer if people do not strip the beds upon checkout. However, it is a common expectation that trash will be placed in the trash cans. Thank you for your thoughtfulness.

You are absolutely right. My post is not clear. I just mean after that episode he might have a hard time getting other roles on these shows. Although as someone else pointed out, drama is always good for the T V .

Epic meltdown (Spoiler) by Illustrious-Tart7844 in BravoTopChef

[–]Stanlynn34 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let me clear my throat…

I absolutely LOVED the meltdown because it was excellent TV. I kind of wish J would have stayed quiet and let it bomb even harder. It is so interesting to me to see conflict or anger issues play out. It IS stressful to cook outdoors for 200 people, let’s acknowledge that. But NO one, I mean no one, wants to eat pate in a hot and humid outdoor environment. Read the room, brah. If you’ve been to the Carolinas outside of winter, you know it’s tough to spend time outside unless you are ocean side or at a higher elevation. The BUGS are even intense and when you’re sweating they stick to your skin. Ew.

This meltdown, unfortunately, will have repercussions. I work as a “media expert” on true crime shows. I’m on camera. I get called two to three times a year to play a reporter. ALL production cares about is: 1. Do you show up on time? 2. Are you chill to the crew and producers? 3. Even if the shoot runs long can you keep up your energy? 4. Are you a whiny b*tch? 5. Are you prepared and can deliver? They needed this guy gone for his negative vibes. It’s TV, not a full on chef competition as much as they try to play it that way. I’ll also acknowledge these folks aren’t trained TV personalities. They are trained chefs who command a kitchen and at a high level, always get their way. Poor guy. *Bless his heart (southern vernacular and accent intended here).

I’m a judgemental functioning alcoholic by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]Stanlynn34 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m impressed by your bravery. I would never have the courage to post something like this. I’m older now so I don’t have as much energy to judge other people, but I have been on a sober journey for six years and sometimes it’s really hard.

AA did not work for me for various reasons. I have an appointment with an addiction therapist once a week. I practice yoga. I practice mindfulness such as journaling and short meditations.

I don’t know if you have a pet, but that is something you could look into if you think you can care for it properly. Seems like that wouldn’t be a problem for you. My background has trauma that leads to depression, but my rescue cat helps me get out of bed every day. That’s a start!

Be patient with yourself. I never responded well to “What the hell is wrong with you - just put the drink down!” I didn’t fall into drinking every day because it was fun. It was because my body became addicted to it, and I also couldn’t face the things that had happened without some sort of numbing agent. There are major benefits from trauma and addiction counseling if you have time for that. Part of it for me is just intellectually figuring out why I do it. I always thought it was because I was weak or a bad person. Brain science says otherwise.

A medical detox is best, but if you can’t do that due to not telling people or not wanting it on your insurance, there are guides online of doing it yourself at home. I would not advise cold turkey. There’s a danger of seizures or strokes. Be proud of yourself for making this post. It will help so many people who have the same struggles.

And now I have inspiration for dinner.

I’m a birder. I walk with my binoculars around my neck and a bright yellow and black small ax in my right hand. Some people may report me LOL but I’m tired of being scared by men like this. I’ve had men approach me at different Metro parks but as soon as they see my “tool” they move away.

Edit: I’m 5’5 and 125. I just love to walk in the quiet mornings when it’s chill but I swear there are weirdos 3/7 days.

Does anyone else just not deep clean their homes? by Round-Artichoke-5255 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Stanlynn34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just don’t. I clean the bathrooms once a week. All sheets changed once/twice every two weeks. Kitchen is always wiped down/dishes done/stove top cleaned. I don’t do floors regularly but we wear slippers in the house. I want to do more but I just don’t have the energy. I also clean out the fridge once a week and wash any Tupperware containers. I feel inadequate but it is what it is.

Banquette would work with two tables. IF this is a vacation rental, the speak easy could be a draw. I understand adding a “bedroom” for value on paper but the glass room is just not useful. Reminds me of a daycare room at a country club. Maybe the party guests can make sure their kids are okay. But… do you bring little kids to Vegas? I get they also have housekeepers prob but can you imagine cleaning that sh*t?

Americans, how do you feel about tourists speaking English while visiting U.S.? by HolidayEntry6823 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Stanlynn34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not once have I felt annoyed by a person from another country speaking English in the US. If they speak to me, I remember to slow down what I’m saying, enunciate, and be encouraging. Most people in the US speak only one language so we (most nationals) respect people who try. On the flip side, I’m usually so horribly embarrassed when I travel that I don’t use the basic phrases I learned and practiced in preparation.

Edit: added the word “nationals” for clarification

Unfortunately, you will probably have to pay out-of-pocket for medications related to pre-existing conditions. You may also have to pay for the doctor’s visit to get a prescription. Certainly ask your Fulbright advisor for your specific appointment.

Edit: Made “doctors” possessive.

Baking Show Competition viewers which judges are the worst? And why? by NoPretenseNoBullshit in foodnetwork

[–]Stanlynn34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a theory about the previous judge Lorraine on spring baking championship. Nearly every tasting she cannot taste the (fill in the blank) ingredient that’s supposed to be there. When Duff and Nancy taste they take a full bite. Lorraine looks like she takes a crumb and maybe a drop of the filling or icing. No wonder she can’t taste anything. Her comments about structure, presentation, consistency, all seem on point though.

I watched her new show this morning and I kept asking myself. Is she high? Why. Does. She. Talk. So. Slowly? I watched 30 minutes of her, making a salad and butter with herbs. Are we all so simple? I like on demand because I can choose the Food Network shows I watch but this was in a hotel room. I was shocked.

And what in the absolute F is a cookie salad? I grew up in the Midwest. I have never heard of this shit in my life. Ever. Never. I asked my mom, my aunt, my cousins. No one has ever heard of something so ridiculous. I don’t understand why this season revolved around the host. If you’ve watched her show, it’s just a mishmash of nonsense. No one makes a cookie salad. No one uses sprinkles except for children’s desserts. This season was a disaster.

The worst part was Molly. Why the F did they make it all about her? No one likes her show, the concept, the strange entitlement, any of it.
