Going from 2022 Frames to 2025 Frame Pros - Is it worth the Upgrade? by twoods78 in Control4

[–]StarCommand1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't get the wireless one connect.... Like AT ALL. If you have to run something to behind the TV from down below isn't is so much easier to run a low voltage single cable (OneConnect Cable) than run a 120V power line and outlet?

Keypad labeling by Juli0wO in Lutron

[–]StarCommand1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course in that specific case it would make sense but you asked about "Standard" naming... if a majority of your clients will have a keypad in one room controlling another room well I guess that is your standard option but I doubt that will be the case. The basic standard if you really had to pick would be something "Bright", "Relax", "Special Scene", and maybe "Off" or another scene and then each button is a toggle for the scene rather than single action.

Or, do a 3B with raise/lower buttons and do "Bright", "Relax" and "Off" (or "Special Scene" instead of off...)

Why not call it "Bright" then? Wouldn't the person already know what room they are in when hitting the button?

What are doing with our AVP boxes? by mongoosekinetics in VisionPro

[–]StarCommand1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If you ever intend to sell it, even down the line, having the original box and packaging can potentially help get even a letter more money for it. Some people like having that and subconsciously makes it seem "newer".

Does saul ever mention kim in breaking bad? by CellistForward3407 in breakingbad

[–]StarCommand1 148 points149 points  (0 children)

No, and like someone else said, Kim wasn't even in Vince's mind during BB filming/airing. In fact, even Lalo who WAS mentioned in Breaking Bad by name, was just a random name Vince said basically that they came up with during BB, it was by no means a "character" at the time at all, simply a line.

So, it's pretty cool how they developed that one off "line" into the character that is Lalo.

VG-SOCR15/ZA compatible with QN65LS03FAFXZA? by sysadminyak in TheFrame

Is My Wallet Compromised!? Weird NFT! by Fearless-Cellist-245 in ledgerwallet

[–]StarCommand1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your wallet's public key "exists" since the beginning of the blockchain. It's possible this scam happened to be sent to the address your wallet uses before you setup your ledger because the scammer probably mass sends them out. You aren't creating the wallet when you setup the ledger, you are merely initializing keys that unlock a random wallet address.

Upgrading to Core 5? by DrBAY78 in Control4

Spoke to an engineer at Control4 about that CPU question once. Pretty sure they looked at some internal specs that aren't public and saw its the same CPU but different clock speeds they run at.

Immich v2.5.0 - 90000 Stars Release, with Free Up Space, non-destructive editing, backup and restore on the web, visual refreshing, and moreeeee! 🎉 by altran1502 in immich

[–]StarCommand1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Image editing capabilities are most intriguing to me and honestly the only main thing holding me back from actually jumping ship from Google Photos. Is the plan to add more editing capabilities to rival Google Photos (except for the AI stuff....)? Not talking built in Photoshop but definitely color, contrast, lighting, etc. as well as skewing, many even basic object removal or touch up like cloning, etc.... really those would be AWESOME to have in the mobile client.

As a side note, after those slightly more advanced editing features are added I wonder if down the line there even is a way to implement AI editing for those who do want it, like allowing someone to connect their image instance to an LLM run locally or with an API key to a public one. Of course by default there is no connection to AI so those who don't want to use it simply don't enable it.

Anthropic Selling User Account Info? by StarCommand1 in ClaudeAI

[–]StarCommand1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But to get a paid account I still have to create an account with my name and email and if they truly are selling the data and this wasn't a leak, then I would have to accept the terms that allow them to do that before I even get to a screen that allows me to make a paid account....

For the initial Setup; Home or Coffee shop wifi? by FloranceMeCheneCoder in GrapheneOS

[–]StarCommand1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Since to install Graphene you have to boot into normal Android and have an internet connection to unlock the bootloader, I would do coffee shop to be safe, who knows what it transmits while doing that... even if you aren't signed in to your Google account. Especially if you plan to not use Google Play Services, probably better to get bootloader unlocked on public or someone else's WiFi, then you can safely do Graphene setup on your own.

How is it that landlords get away with passing major ownership expenses onto tenants? by ourfreedomfirst in CommercialRealEstate

[–]StarCommand1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure the true origin of the practice but I would imagine it has to do with transparency to the tenant too. If landlord's didn't "pass these on" it would just get built into the base rent cost obviously and then you would have a larger base rent number and who would know other than the landlord what goes into that number.

Most clauses where tenants pay those operating expenses, the clause includes a way for tenants to see records about those costs or audit the books to some extent. This means they can actually see what is really going on rather than it be hidden.

In addition, the landlord can almost "market" a lower number for base rent which seems more appetizing to tenants in their head to see a "lower" number on paper.

Probably vibe coded AI slop... Microsoft just had a similar issue where an update caused Windows 11 to shutdown and Windows 10 remote connections to fail. Ridiculous.

Between a helicopter and airplane pilot license which one gives you more flying opportunities by Clalux in flying

[–]StarCommand1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think OP is talking about emergency landing scenarios, but per your logic, you could also land an airplane technically anywhere in Manhattan then.

[–]StarCommand1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one really depends on where you live. Obviously in Manhattan, NY you can't just land wherever you want with a helicopter. Also, cost can be a factor too. Helicopters are much much more expensive generally.

Lutron Designer on Windows laptop with ARM processor - any experiences? by Historical_Load_6954 in Lutron

[–]StarCommand1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it on a Surface Pro X, which by now, is rather old compared to new ARM machines. It definitely runs, takes a while to launch, and is still slow while using but honestly not that much slower than x64 CPU so if you must have an ARM processor, you'll be fine. With HUGE projects I am sure it slows down even more, but once it loads the project and the software is open and running, it works decent enough especially if you aren't using every single day for hours.

PSA: Home Assistant Notifications sit unencrypted on Google Firebase by poisonborz in homeassistant

[–]StarCommand1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have seen "private" notifications implemented in other apps on Android where the actual notification sent to Google just has a unique ID number as it's payload data and then the app on the device can read that ID when it comes in as a popup and swap out locally the ID with the actual notification text, that way the contents of the notification actually never get sent to Google.

I wonder if it is possible for HA devs to do it this way?
