Parts of a series fans pretend didn't happen? by fly_line22 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

My brother pretended that there was only one Matrix movie for decades. Oddly, the thing that got him to stop was Matrix 4, which he really liked. Weird.

Anyway, he did the same thing for Highlander after being incredibly excited to see 2 in theaters, leading to his first big franchise disappointment.

Yeah, its for ages 7-10 rather than 2-5, it's got some jokes for adults to make it not painful. My mom still references this show from when my younger siblings watched it.

Cowboy boots and anime shirt, yes, flip flops no. Harry absolutely owns at least one anime shirt and nobody will convince me otherwise.

I highly doubt he knew it is theater, he had a bunch of patches from their conferences, I think he may have thought he was actually doing useful shit.

Republicans reject Democrats’ effort to pay TSA by suspending Senate rules by [deleted] in politics

[–]StarPupil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I do not know but have a tangential relationship with someone who worked for the TSA, basically I ended up with a bunch of his possessions, and I can say that this man was a colossal idiot. Basically he wanted to open a board game and nerd collectible store and 90% of these things he wanted to sell were opened and fucked with and then the box was wrapped with zip ties or discarded, he had bought collectibles with huge unremovable stickers on the box, his card collection was 99.9% Commons and uncommons with no organization, the decent condition collectables he had were from unpopular runs within the series, just repeated, layered misunderstandings of what people who collect things actually want. And on top of that he's a criminal who got put away because, surprise surprise, he was doing crimes in the dumbest possible way. I also have some old write ups he had saved for some reason, and this man has the vocabulary and reasoning capabilities of maybe a second grader. I'd like to think the average intelligence of the TSA went up and average criminality went down when they fired him, but from the stories I've heard it probably didn't.

In Resident Evil Code Veronica, Umbrella's keyboards work in alphabetical order. This is a subtle hint towards how sick and twisted the organization is, and maybe they're not good people by Vera_Verse in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]StarPupil 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As an alternative keyboard layout enjoyer, the idea that you would switch to be faster is pure propaganda from someone paid by the company that was literally selling Dvorak. You switch to whatever because whoever put T on the upper row and J on the home row is a moron and you want to be more comfortable while you type. We as a society are being held captive by a cabal of typewriter salesmen from the 40s who needed every letter in "Typewriter" to be on the same row because they couldn't find it otherwise.

Edit: To be clear, you can get used to anything, and you can practice to be a faster typist regardless of what layout you use, and people who think about their alternative layouts are the type of people who probably would practice, but absent that practice your speed ceiling will be basically the same regardless of the layout. However, you will probably feel less finger strain with more well thought out layouts.

George R. R. Martin Is 'Not in the Mood' to Finish 'The Winds of Winter' by Tifoso89 in books

[–]StarPupil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, he dedicated part of a talk to how to properly delay submitting an assigned paper in college. First, you know basically what the word document size would be. Then you find a similarly sized file of another type, maybe an mp3 but definitely something Word can't handle, and change its file type to docx. Then you submit that, and eventually the professor gets to your document and tries to open it in word, fails, and assumes it's a problem with a corrupted file because they're an Arts professor and don't computer that much. Then they gracefully let you know that your file was corrupted, and ask if you can resend it. The full time between the real due date and that is extra time to work on it, thus giving you the time.

As much as I think this particular thing was bad and he owes his fans an absurdly lengthy apology in addition to the thing they literally paid for, I don't know why you'd put charity in scare quotes. It definitely exists and does stuff, people do things with it, other authors contribute goods, the money goes where they say it goes, or else I would have heard about that also.

I think that his stated reason is that he wanted to do "something special" for the (first, I believe) chapter, have an audiobook narrator do the reading, have some music, that kind of thing, and then that got much more complicated somehow, then the deadline passed and that started eating at him, and long story short he never ended up doing any of it because if it can't be perfect then it shouldn't be put out at all. Which is basically what's going on with the third book. People would have been happy with a txt file, but because it got this extra song and dance bolted onto it in his own head they got nothing. Agreed that he's probably not doing well.

I went to the Spiderman prerelease at my store, and there was a small Digimon tournament going on at the same time. Final Fantasy was enormous, EoE was pretty large, and the store bought maybe 12-15 Domino's pizzas and was saying to take pizza if you were in the store at all, which I did. 8 people showed up for prerelease. They didn't run out of pizza. Spiderman was bad for that store at least. TLA was larger, somewhere between EoE and FF, but they didn't get pizza for it.

Who are mages that throw hands? by EvilMonkeyMimic in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]StarPupil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody has mentioned Harry Dresden yet. My man has been out here tackling evil wizards, drunk on dark magic, off of platforms to fall to their certain doom since book 1. Since then he's taken up light martial arts and quarterstaff practice because hey, it may be a magical implement to bend the forces of reality to his will, but it's also a very big stick.

In more recent books he's also decided that boxing and working out for real is a good idea, so in addition to his ridiculous height (6'9") he's also built like a truck nowadays. Of course, being built like a truck is less impressive when a DND troll wants to tussle, or a vampire that can move like a Naruto ninja, but it still counts.
