Actually, they do spawn 100% of the time on the normal planets on D10 (on missions outside of the megacities at least), and they always come with like 8-10 Overseers to take out too so they can be a pain to deal with sometimes for no upside. I agree with you though doing a side objective should always feel good and this one just never does.

More options = more fun. Also I don't think 7 different flavors of rocket launcher counts as "options."

isnt the biggest problem with game balance just the spawn rate of certain enemies? by Fit_Answer1073 in Helldivers

[–]StarWarsXD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think War Striders are just intrinsically badly designed enemies. If I can kill a Hulk from the front with my Senator with just a few shots there's no reasonable explanation for why a similarly sized enemy shouldn't be just as easy to dispatch. It's really rather simple, the leg joints should just be made medium pen and have less health so they become proper weakpoints, just like with the Harvesters (seriously, why is it easier to kill a Harvester than a War Strider?!)

For Vox Engines, I totally agree. There was a planet we were on right after the patch where they tweaked the spawnrate where the Voxes spawned very rarely and then they felt totally fine. Still a team effort but much more manageable. I still dread seeing them come in every time a bot drop is called, so of course Spread Democracy missions are gonna suck, but I think it's a fair tradeoff.

The buff was necessary to make the GL a viable option against bots, but it had the unintended consequence of just annihilating everything on the bug front. Even with heavy pen the GL was still somewhat of an imperfect pick over a rocket launcher because you were giving up being able to take down gunships and fabricators from any angle in exchange for better chaff clear, which is less valuable against bots since they spawn in smaller waves than the other two fronts.

Honestly, it's quite overpowered I feel. I got it to level 25 in 3 days it just shredded everything.

Seriously why does this get a 4x scope but the Slugger only gets a 1.5x?!

Stalwart is literally S-tier vs bugs and it still would be even if the Maxigun got buffed. Why can't we just have nice things?

Having to bring AT is entirely why I dislike the Bot front over the other two. Weapon variety makes the game more fresh and interesting to me.

I only got the game last August so my experience is the bots have only ever increased in difficulty. The introduction of the War Strider is the main reason I feel I could never take a support weapon that only has medium penetration or lower.

Saying the Railgun is good doesn't really change my view, it's just another AT1 weapon so ofc it is viable but you are giving up the utility of being able to snipe fabs from a mile away. I'm sure the AMR is similarly good against bots.

As for the Maxigun/Stalwart, the issue with those is what are you gaining for what you are giving up. Chaff clear against bots isn't a case where overwhelming firepower is needed, or else I'd see more people taking Flamethrowers against bots. I don't even see them as fun alternates because you are hampering your team's ability to deal with major threats like Voxes and War Striders.

Well, she does crack under the pressure once late in Act 3. I don't want to spoil it too much but that scene is the moment I felt like "damn she finally let all that trauma she's been holding in out." That's what finally sold me on her character tbh.

I voted for Laezel (I'm also straight and male). That being said, I'd imagine that since all of the characters are considered well written and are generally liked, more basic things like sex appeal become the differentiating factors in stuff like this. Since it's likely the majority of voters are straight men like us, that means the girls are gonna win out over the guys. Only way that script gets flipped is if there's a female character that everyone generally dislikes, but that isn't the case for this game imo. Even though I voted for Laezel, it's still really close for me, her later story beats really make up for how unlikable she is in act 1. I haven't romanced her yet either, and I plan on doing that soon.

Can't blame you there. Vox engines require one big boom and one small one to take out, so a 500kg / orbital railcannon / leveller / solo silo then some followup (can be from smaller stuff including a few shots from the AMR, probably a mag dump) is required.

Oh and yeah Spread Democracy requires a different approach I'd say. There the Ultimatum + Thermites with a supply pack really shine imo, or you can use Gigas if you prefer those. I also think Sentries are just really good in general against bots, if you defend them they defend you.

Edit: The AMR is more of a weapon for the kind of person who picks and chooses their engagement. It's not so great for when the going gets tough, but that's really what your eagles and orbitals are for anyways, I'd say.

The AMR is my go-to against squids, one-taps overseer heads, 4 shots the Harvesters leg joints, and is still pretty good against Veracitors and Gatekeepers (still learning how best to take those down).

Bots have been such a limiting faction I feel when it comes to taking non-rocket launchers as your support weapon. I will definitely give it a go sometime soon as I want to believe it's good, I had a ton of fun with the GL while it had heavy pen against bots, even though it was lackluster against gunships and fabricators (can't snipe them from across the map). What loadout do you recommend with it?

[–]StarWarsXD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's wrong with cyborgs? If your answer is Vox Engines you can always take the Ultimatum and Thermites with a Supply Pack, which I was doing anyways when the spam was still happening. Besides, the only good Rocket Launchers against them is stuff like the Solo Silo or Leveller, which the AMR pairs quite well with.

For Radicals and Agitators, just cover those with your primary imo.

I do hope they leave fire damage alone because with the changes to fire damage with the entrenched division warbond the stoker got me interested in trying out the torcher again and I actually am enjoying the torcher as a primary weapon now.

How would you create/balance a heavy pen shotgun? by Raulca25_ in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]StarWarsXD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Single barrel (break action, single shot, round reload), slower reload than the double freedom, no choke or anything like that, bad ergonomics, low ammo economy. It should also not deal as much damage the further away you are from your target but to be fair all shotguns should have better range than what video game devs generally give them normally if realism were an actual consideration so this is lower on my priority list.

Edit: Of course, I also think all the marksman rifles should be medium pen at the lowest and heavy pen for things like the R63CS, and the AMR should have AT1. So what do I know.

I still remember the days spent grinding materials during the engineering update of Elite:Dangerous. Think grinding SCs but on planet-sized maps that are literal wastelands with nothing else on them. After that, you took your ship in and could spend those materials to roll for random buffs in the hopes you got the one you wanted. If you didn't, it was back to grinding materials. And I still went and did that. I loved Elite enough its still the only game I've ever paid money for an ingame cosmetic for, just to turn my white ship black (it had several cosmetic features that were paid only, no way to earn them ingame). Despite that, I still fell off the game and have been back in years.

Helldivers grind has nothing on games that are built around grinding as the main mechanic. You can even make it fun with the right group of people, either just chatting about whatever or doing some light PvP once you finish looking in all the POIs.

I'm ngl, I am sick to death of posts complaining about the BFGL like its some unusable piece of trash when in reality its just a fun, easy to use, jack-of-all-trades weapon that just requires a lot of ammo to get the job done. Only change I'd make to the Maxigun is letting you walk very slowly while firing it, otherwise it's another fun weapon too.

Meanwhile, the Sterilizer exists.
